Once. Wiped out for about ten days. Couldn't get out of bed and so out of it I didn't know whether I wanted a shiit, shave or haircut.

no sign of flu north of the Tweed so far .

had it real bad a two years ago after playing football on a cold and wet dec afternoon with a chest infection after a night on the piss.Did not go to doc  and remember trying to walk up the hall way to the bog after being in bed for a week  ,was like walking up an elevator the wrong way ,being on a train with bright lights outside (hallucinations ),was on my hands and knees ,took me all day ,lost a stone and took me months to recover .

bedsheets were drenched in sweat and could not eat ,headache was severe ,sleeping 18+ hours a day, lost a stone and took me months to recover .

1000mg VIT C the way to go .

A cold can be nasty but you can get through it. Headache, sore throat.

Flu lasts at least 4-5 days. Even standing up is a massive effort. You feel as weak and helpless as a newborn kitten. I've only had flu once thankfully. I thought I'd had it several times but they were just colds. Then one winter a few years ago my whole body shut down. Blindingly painful headaches, muscles aching, throat feeling like I'd swallowed acid.

The best description I've heard about the difference between the flu and a cold is

If you saw a £20 note fluttering around your front lawn you'd walk up and collect it if you had a cold.

If you had the flu you wouldnt even consider leaving your bed for it!

Helped me to stop smoking, got flu in 2001 used to smoke 40 a day, when I got better didn't fancy one never smoked since

Proper flu makes hallucinate and if you dropped a £10 note you would be in too much of a bad way to fancy picking it up, anything else is a bad cold.

No-one goes to work with the flu. You can't.
A difference between a cold and the flu is that a cold comes on gradually but the flu just wipes you out with little warning.
