Anybody seen this? Saw it for the first time last night - the film with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. I only watched it after seeing John Wayne talking to Parkinson at the weekend, while waiting for the racing to start. His comments about the film sparked my interest.
This HIGH NOON has got to be the biggest pile of shoite this Irish lad has ever seen!
''The film won four Academy Awards (Actor, Editing, Music-Score, Music-Song)[2] and four Golden Globe Awards (Actor, Supporting Actress, Score, Cinematography-Black and White).[3] The award-winning score was written by Russian-born composer Dimitri Tiomkin.''

Hey, I should have been clearer about that ; John Wayne hated the film and Parkinson was shocked that Wayne thought it was "Un-American" etc. re. 50s Commie witch-hunts etc. Surprised that it was such an odd movie - it was like an extended Twilight Zone episode in a lot of ways.
The premise of the film was laughable and otter shoite to this Irish lad.

Was rubbish. thewre were loads of western films then. Only one worth watching is She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. One of the first I ever watched and the film and soundtrack captured my imagination. Still love the theme tune to this day.

They know what time the bad guy is arriving in town, right?
NOON!
He's arriving in a train at the train station...a town with hundreds of men and horses and a big store of rifles can easily surround the evil fecker at the train station...but no...everyone runs away...the judge packs up the American flag and his law books and scarpers...the tough Mexican chick scarpers...the deputy takes the huff with the sheriff and starts fighting him instead of the baddies. WALOFS.
In reality, these towns were founded by tough men who had fought in the civil war and traversed the country, fighting "injuns" and disease and wild animals, etc.
In reality, citizens of western towns were only too happy to join in armed fights against outlaws like the Daltons and James gangs - that is on record, in places like Coffeyville, Kansas.
Then to top it all off, the sweet young, non-violent Quaker wife shoots a dude IN THE BACK...bogus, dude - feckin' BOGUS! says this Irish lad...!
