They used to be the backbone of Title winning sides
And European champions --
For instance Liverpool had
Rowdy ****, Ian St John, Alan Hansen, Graeme Souness.
And up front Kenny Dalglish .
There were tons of others scattered about in United, Spurs, etc, colours.

Now they have all disappeared ???
I scratch my head
Especcially as Liverpool need a centre half badly
And a top forward !!
Is it because SPL became totally uncompetitive ???
Or what ?

European football is no longer European but a world game. Fitter stronger faster players from all over the world now play in Europe. Scottish players are not physically quick or strong enough.

It probably is a question of lack of fitness and game intelligence...probably also a lack of confidence. Scottish players are not dedicated enough - the Spaniards and Germans have shown that dedication really matters and should pay rewards in the modern game.

Rangers II and Celtic are a disgrace in the Scottish game due to the lack of faith shown in young Scottish players. Small differences are magnified in the modern game - I don't think that there is any great gulf between, say, Scott Brown and an Aberdeen or Dundee Utd. midfielder. I recently watched a game from the 70s - Celtic V Motherwell - and Kenny Dalglish was playing for Celtic...Willie Pettigrew and Bobby Graham were outstanding - in a one-off game, better than Dalglish...but for some reason, Pettigrew never really got a break with a big team...makes you wonder...

BTW - there aren't that many fookin' English players in "title winning sides" - you're on the same slippery slopes...

Scotland have lost loads of their athletic types from the gene pool, many stayed back in Argentina after the gubbing in the 78 world cup.

A superb double act. How Pettigrew only got five caps for Scotland is beyond me. If they were playing as a double act today they would be with the old firm or in the Premiership imo. (Scotland won all five games when Pettigrew was in the side I may add)

Aye, it must be in the genes. Pity there are so many of us contaminating the gene pool in the good ol' USA.

kids started getting games ahead of better players because their dad or dads mates had control of teams , decent players scarpered and ended up on the booze at young ages and popping pills , smoking pot etc.

seen plenty folk do this , all the bets players i seen where not even in teams at 13-14 but sh1tty players where and more dedicated as guaranteed a a game
