Anyone using Vodafone PAYG might want to check their usage and charges over the last month or so.
I was bored last night, surfing the internet, and decided to sign up to a Vodafone account and check my balance. I found out that I had been charged for 30 something texts in the last week when I knew I had sent fewer than half that amount. They were charging double or sometimes triple the standard 14p for a single text. I contacted them via the live chat option and they basically said "sorry about that, it's a glitch, here's £20 in credit for the inconvenience."
I didn't explain it very well in my post above. They weren't charging 28p or 42p for a single text, they had it listed as two or three seperate texts at 14p instead of one.
Somebody looking at their account might think they had taken part in a quick conversation where they had fired a few quick texts to a mate etc and thought nothing of it. I knew I hadn't sent more than one text to any one person though and, as I'm such a light user, the overcharging stuck out like a sore thumb to me. I'm very happy to have the £20 gift, it will last me for ages.

Not just phone companies guys, it's a worldwide trend, they seem load a bill, apologize when challenged and if they get even 10% who don't check, hey presto free muuuuunny added the bottom line.
Even in heavily regulated Singapore a group of 50+, and every one of us, were overcharged, upon settling our hotel bill at the Ritz Carlton, It was only when I checked that we had been charged for food and drinks from a bar we had not used did we all have a closer look at the bills, about 11 of us had already paid, we were all overcharged by about £250 average, apologies all round, but no compo. Nice work if you can get it.
The above is just one example of the many pulling this scam. Check every menu, statement, bill, ie, every charge that comes your way. Trust no one.

I had a contract phone with vodafone a while back, was for 18mths,the contract was £35 a month allegedly.
In 18 mths i had ONE bill come in for the agreed contract amount, the final bill when i said i was leaving and why!
Every single month, without fail, before that joyous final bill,i would cop a bill between £50-£60 and suffer the waterboarding that is their customer service department which would inevitably end up with one of us giving up in the end(usually me tbh) and i'd be mugged again.
Its a joy equivalent to watching my 1st born to pay three £15 a mth for unlimited data 3000 txt 300 mins, for a service of much better quality, after being systematically robbed by them fkers!

It really is worth everyone's while to take a little time to check other company's offers from time to time for stuff like mobile 'phone charges and insurance (for instance).
Of course, it all depends on what you want within your remit as to which company will suit - but whatever it is, keep checking. You'll save bundles of money if you do.

The thing is Boxing - it's boring to do so (keep checking every so often) but the companies know that's how most people think and thus can get away with creeping their prices up.
I've been guilty of it myself occasionally in the past - just paying up when a new insurance policy (for example) is due because I've been too mithered at the time to check around.
However, if you do just set aside some time to check other sites (USwitch is very good, for instance) - you really can save so much money it's daft not to do it.
If you have a mobile 'phone that's your own, it's absolutely bonkers to tie yourself into a contract for calls/usage when 3 Mobile and Giff Gaff offer really cheap rates - and also monthly packages which you can alter from month to month to suit your needs.

Plus, with either 3 Mobile or Giff Gaff - if your circumstances change and you'd prefer to go back to one of them you were using before - you can do.
It's so simple, I don't really know why those two haven't just taken over the marketplace.
But that's how the rip off merchants survive; because people don't check their options.

Just as a quick summary for anyone thinking of swapping to another company - but still can't be bothered to check:
3 Mobile offer: Telephone calls to either landlines or other mobiles at 3p a minute. Texts at 2p each. Data usage at 1p per mb.
There is no limit on the time your money lasts, so if you seldom use your mobile this is without doubt the cheapest way of using it.
They also do monthly packages for £15 which gives 300 minutes of calls, 3000 texts and unlimited data. You can also buy a '3-to-3' package for a fiver if someone else you talk to a lot is also on 3 - which gives you 3000 minutes of calls a month.
Giff Gaff charges are higher per say: 10p a minute for calls and 6p a text - but their 'Goodybags' work out cheaper than 3. They start at £5 a month - and for £10 you get 500 mins of calls, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. Plus, totally free calls and texts to other Giff Gaff numbers.
As mentioned previously, you're not signed up to anything with either firm and can alter how much you pay for what you need accordingly, month by month.
So cheap - it's daft not to use one or the other!
