Man Turning In Stray Cat to Animal Shelter, Killed by Police After Refusing to Show ID
Dothan, Alabama – 30-year-old Robert Earl Lawrence was shot and killed by police on Tuesday night, after he attempted to do a good deed by turning a stray cat in at a local animal shelter. Instead of accepting this good deed and taking the animal in without question, the workers at the shelter demanded that Lawrence show them his government issued ID.
Instead of giving them his ID, Dothan showed them the identification that he did have with him, legal paperwork that identified him as a sovereign citizen, or in other words a person who has claimed emancipation from the government.
The employees of the shelter then made a careless decision that would end the man’s life. For some reason they decided to call the cops. It was not reported that Dothan was at all belligerent or violent with the employees of the shelter, the police were called because he would not show government issued ID, and it seems that the employees were somehow threatened by the fact that this animal lover was also a sovereign citizen.
When police arrived on the scene, Lawrence was hassled by them for several minutes about his ID and his status as a sovereign citizen. Police then informed him that he was being placed under arrest, but when Lawrence attempted to resist, he was shot by an unidentified police officer.
“After repeatedly being told to calm down, Lawrence was advised he was being placed under arrest. A physical altercation ensued, to which Lawrence was shot in the abdomen (by an officer),” Police Sgt. Maurice Eggleston told AL News.
Lawrence was then taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
Bastard coppers!

American police killing American citizens seems to be par for the course lately but surely the real question is wtf he needed an ID card to hand in a stray cat.

Maybe the police and workers thought he was a terrorist and the stray cat was, in fact, a trojan cat. It could have been a toy cat stuffed with high explosives and go off anytime - or perhaps generally Americans are just stupid.
I know that's a sweeping statement and I used to live and work over there and know for a fact it's not true because I met a couple who weren't stupid (only there for a couple of years or so plus many visits - so there could be 1 or 2 more) I never met.
Have a nice day!

No good deed goes unpunished, American law enforcement/courts etc, is frequently dishing out injustice to people claiming "sovereign rights" under Common law, such as FMOTL, etc. Don't fcuk with American cops is the answer.

no you coward 'do fck with american cops' is actually the answer (preferably if your american, b ut the concept is transferrable). When bullies come to town one must stand up for oneself and - even more importantly - those unable to do so.

Sovereign citizen movement From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The sovereign citizen movement is a loose grouping of American litigants, commentators, tax protesters and financial-scheme promoters. Self-described sovereign citizens take the position that they are answerable only to their particular interpretation of the common law[1] and are not subject to any statutes or proceedings at the federal, state or municipal levels or that they do not recognize U.S. currency and that they are "free of any legal constraints."[2][3][4] They especially reject most forms of taxation as illegitimate.[5] Participants in the movement argue this concept in opposition to "federal citizens" who, they say, have unknowingly forfeited their rights by accepting some aspect of federal law.[6]
Many members of the sovereign citizen movement believe that the U.S. government is illegitimate.[7] JJ MacNab, who writes for Forbes about anti-government extremism, describes the sovereign citizen movement as consisting of individuals who believe that the County Sheriff is the most powerful law-enforcement officer in the country, with authority superior to that of any federal agent, elected official or local law-enforcement official.[8]
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classifies some sovereign citizens ("sovereign citizen extremists") as a domestic terrorist movement.[9] In 2010 the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) estimated that approximately 100,000 Americans were "hard-core sovereign believers" with another 200,000 "just starting out by testing sovereign techniques for resisting everything from speeding tickets to drug charges."[10]
A 2014 report by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism stated that a survey of law-enforcement officials and agencies across the United States concluded that the movement was the single greatest threat to their communities, ranking above Islamic terrorists and jihadists.[11][12][13]
