Thinking about this a bit more a lot will depend on what exactly the bbc show in the build up...for sheer excitement over one event could be Mo....the public can't fail to respond to his last lap whereas Jess (who i will vote for cos she's quite pretty),her achievement was the sum of the parts.....not convinced she should be an odds on chance.

Oh of course, rumours are that Ennis is on 2nd to lastShockedalready gerrymandered it by having 3 paralympians.
Report viva el presidente! December 16, 2012 6:02 PM GMT
good luck. but the olympics is such a big deal, and I wouldn't want to be opposing farah, because that was surely the defining moment.

plus... well, cycling? the tour de france? not that big a deal in british culture, and people just don't trust anything they see. and that was before the recent armstrong stuff.

on the other hand, he has got sideburns.

should be murray imo (olympic gold and first open winner since noah), but the scottishness will sink him.

Wiggins looks too short. OK, cyclists have won twice in the last four years but Hoy in 2008 was as much about the Olympics, and Cavendish won in a weak year. I've laid him (not to huge amounts, admittedly).

That's Mo, Jess and Andy Murray running for me, and that is without the paralympians.

Wiggins 100% deserves to win.

Tour De France victory far outweighs anything else achieved at the Olympics, in which he didn't do too bad himself.

Frankly Ben Ainslie should be top 3 for me but he wont be given the popularity of Mo and Ennis
Report SlippyBlue December 16, 2012 6:38 PM GMT
Ennis down to 1.83 w/o Wiggins.

GET ON
Report Poppydog. December 16, 2012 6:42 PM GMT
After favouring Wiggins for months and months, now think Andy Murray truly deserves it.

- An individual sport as opposed to the backing of a (Sky) team
- Wimbledon finalist (first for decades)
- US Open winner (first for decades)
- Olympic champion

and all against a few absolute legends of the sport (Wiggins' opposition in the Tour?) and a strong tennis Tour.
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby December 16, 2012 7:04 PM GMT
HTF will Ennis win this!?!? She has NO chance. She is vaguely pretty (Not Stunning) and won an average event at the Olympics.

Farah should be 7/2 maximum imho and is a great price if only to trade. Im actually surprised hes not Fav given he won two of the "Monument" events at the Olympics
Report Far From Trouble December 16, 2012 7:06 PM GMT
Ennis is the best in being good at lots of things but not good enough to specialise in any of them. For me her achievement doesn't merit that of most of the others

But she's hugely popular

In the excitement of it all, I neglected to relate some amusing scenes in Miami where Lennox Lewis didn't seem to realise that he was supposed to hand over the third place trophy to Andy Murray. The award just stood there on a table in front of the two of them looking rather lonely during a pregnant pause before a laughing Murray grabbed it himself, muttering something about "technical issues."

Footnote.

I asked Betfair to put Katherine Grainger in the market in January based on the furore over lack of female representation last year and the firytale of her win in London after three previous silvers.

Backed her in Spring and early summer and tried to lay off when she won gold but the price never contracted enough

I think I was the only person who backed her on here and stood to win pretty large sum and was hoping someone would want to back her when the shortlist was announced - but her price never wavered from 1000/1.

It's been a strong year for British sport
