quite pumphol. up until the lighting of the cauldron, there were bits i liked and bit i didn't like, but the lighting of the cauldron itself as well as the magnanimous gesture from the elder olympians was absolutely epic.

that should have been the end.

unfortunately it wasn't and has left a bitter sh1tty taste in my mouth.

Drifted in and out of the opening - as one does.  The Shipping News is a sadly underrated film - gloom, incest, incoherence, ship-wrecking and hardship can make this country great again.  Some cracking Family Guy also.  Not to mention Conan and some good 80s Horror Channel bloodfests.  Just a few impressions.  It was pleasingly multicultural and multiracial - and TMP must have been orgasmic when Chuckabutty carried the flag.  Loved the German rep waving just like Adolf H used to do the Nazi salute - spirit of '36 and all that.  When they lit all the torches I actually screamed 'think of the gas bill.'  We have produced some great music over the years - and some not so great.  Good to see both in abundance.  And when did we become a nation of vigorous but not very talented dancers?  It did get turgid and overblown towards the end (and this from someone who watched less than half) - why does everyone remotely connected have to get a face/name-check?  Thought the Queen looked suicidial at times.  McCartneys face will soon be down around his knees.  Like my moobs eventually (my knees, not his).  It was OK I guess.  The Chinese will be so damned puzzled they'll have no idea if it was better or worse than their effort.  It was different for certain.
Report Tommy Toes July 28, 2012 2:20 AM BST

Well I really enjoyed that, mrbean made me laugh, but all good.  Purposely didn't read the forum because I didn't want a load of cynics moaning about everything (did that happen? Haven't read) .  Best ever.  Well done nibbs.
Report berto77 July 28, 2012 9:41 AM BST
There were some cynics for 20 mins or so (mainly because we are expected to rip the p1ss), but gradually the thread warmed to it.  There was so much going on there are always bits people will pick fault with.  Overall excellent, even better looking back at the edited highlights this morning.

Good bits
Flame lighting superb
Workers who built stadium being involved (great to see these fellas weren't overlooked)
Lighting was great, those things on the seats created a great atmosphere
The overall concept had coherence
Loved Bond and the Queen
Last but nit least, Crisps commentary

Bad bits
Ali, feels a bit like we exploited him
Went on a bit too long
Macca just can't sing.  Use the Beatles music but he can't sing it.
Trevor Nelson
Trevor Nelson

Overall, proud of what they all did.  Well done all.

Good to see they had to give 1000's of tickets away...£10.000 for a ticketLaughmr arse!

All in all it was decent for it's type.

One thing that comes to light in these events though is our seemingly total and utter lack of high class presenters? the likes of Linekar and Barker are very lightweight and what in the name of tokenism was Trevor "is it because" Nelson doing there?

the whole thing reeked of the politically correct ideology which says:

"we are all really well integrated and multi-culturalism is a really good... just look how lovely it is and anyone who does not think so is an ignorant, poor, racist pleb whose values and opinions are so beneath contempt to not being even worth discussing..."

it was a good show but I resent having someone elses views rammed down my throat especially when it's being done by a bunch of super wealthy, hand wringing luvvies with a guilt complex
