They were part of a 10-strong gang that duped elderly victims from across east and north London into handing over their bank cards between October 2008 and 2009.
The callous crooks were jailed for a total of 14 years at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday.
Numan Patel, of Third Avenue, and Wakas Ahmed, of Eight Avenue, both 22, were each jailed for three years, while Mohammad Sadak, 24, of Sheringham Avenue, was locked up for a year.
Mohammad Iqbal, 20, of Meanley Road, was caged for 14 months and Wasim Ahmad, 28, of Little Ilford Lane, was given a year-long suspended jail term.
They called their victims claiming to be police officers investigating a fraud on their bank account, the court heard.
The perpetrators would then ask for the account details before turning up in plain clothes to collect the bank card.
They claimed they needed to run the card through a machine at Scotland Yard to identify the person responsible for the fraud.
Victims would be provided with a fake crime reference number before being asked to place the card in a sealed envelope with the PIN written on the back.
Before leaving the address they would tell the victim not to speak to anyone about the incident as it would “jeopardise the investigation”.
Det Insp Chris Krelle, who led the investigation, said: “These cowardly offences were being committed against the most frail and vulnerable people in our communities.
“The successful conclusion of Operation Ferres has seen the dismantling of an organised crime group which has been deemed so serious the majority of those convicted received custodial sentences.”
Patel, Ahmed and Sadak all admitted conspiracy to defraud.
Iqbal admitted pleaded guilty to fraud, while Ahmad was convicted of conspiracy to defraud after a trial.
The gang went on to use the cards in retail outlets and betting shops.
One 88-year-old woman had £12,336 taken from her account, while four other victims lost more than £95,000.

Appeal after girl, 11, flees sex attack at Maryland station
She was returning home from school in Chadwell Heath aboard the 3.42pm service to Liverpool Street last Thursday (May 19).
Shortly after taking a seat she was approached by a man who sat down beside her and began talking to her.
He then pulled her into the rear carriage of the train and touched her indecently.
Her attacker also got off the train at Maryland, but fled the scene before police arrived.
British Transport Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the suspect, who is described as black, aged between 25 and 30, 6ft 2in tall and of thin build.
He had a small moustache and was wearing a red t-shirt, red baseball cap and a dark body warmer with red lining.
The victim was wearing a white polo shirt, black leather jacket, black trousers and white trainers.
Det Con Sally Everritt said: “Both the victim and the man were initially sat in one of the rear coaches of what is typically a busy service. I want to speak to anyone who was travelling on this train and who saw either the victim or the man we are trying to identify.
“Offences like this are very rare on the rail network in East London but we are treating this incident very seriously and are currently conducting several lines of enquiry to trace the man responsible. We will also be speaking with witnesses and carrying out anniversary visits in the area.

Plaistow trickster and family jailed for street con
A Romanian con man who tricked tourists into betting wads of cash in a game they could never win was jailed for 28 weeks after asking a judge to give him a “light sentence”.
Vasile Craciun, 49, was spotted encouraging unwitting dupes to take part in illegal street gambling on Hungerford Bridge in central London on May 6.
Craciun lured punters in by surrounding himself with a group of friends and relatives who posed as gamblers.
City of Westminster magistrates’ court heard some of the gang had arrived in the UK just weeks earlier.
Craciun, of Jenkins Road, Plaistow, was convicted four times of similar offences between June 2009 and July 2010. At his previous court appearance, he was handed a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for a year under conditions including that he did not enter Westminster.
The gang was arrested at the scene after being observed by a group of three plain-clothes police officers.
None were allowed to work legally in the UK, and though they claimed to have homes in London, they had no door keys on them.

Ana Marie Petroiu, 21, and Adrian Bobeica, 23, both of Halley Road, Plaistow, and Stefan Craciun, 30, and Ana-Gabriela Craciun, 39, both of Spencer Road, East Ham, admitted supplying facilities for illegal gambling. Each was fined £2,500.
Magistrate Stevie Dee said: “The aggravating features of this offence are the fact that this conduct is not actually gambling but a con trick, and there is no chance that the victim will win.”
Craciun was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, and his earlier suspended sentence of 12 weeks was also activated consecutively, making a total of 28 weeks.

West Ham “mega mosque” group win planning battle over temporary site
An Islamic group planning a so-called “mega mosque” in West Ham have won a challenge to keep their current base open.
Leaders of Tablighi Jamaat were bidding to overturn an enforcement notice served on their Riverine Centre in Canning Road by Newham Council in February 2010.
The council wanted to see the temporary facility — which consists of pre-fabricated and demountable buildings — shut down amid fears over traffic levels, land contamination and visual impact.
Temporary planning permission was granted in 2001, but expired in 2006, since when the group have continued to use the site.
At a public inquiry at Newham Town Hall, East Ham, held earlier this year, the group argued they should be granted a two-year extension.
And in a decision notice published today, planning inspector Graham Dudley granted their request — despite admitting harm would be caused to the area and that there was a history of non-compliance with planning guidelines.
He said the “substantial need” for religious facilities and the scarcity of land and finances for new community buildings outweighed the negative factors.
Any further extension would be conditional on Tablighi Jamaat preparing a masterplan for the 120,000-capacity Abbey Mills Mosque, which is planned for the same site, he added. A planning application is expected to be submitted later this year.
Mr Dudley imposed a series of conditions on the planning grant, including requirements for an “ecological buffer zone” to safeguard the nearby environment, a travel plan and structural repairs, as well as improving access for the disabled.
He did not rule on claims made at the inquiry by Newham Concern, a group opposed to the mosque and headed by Christian People’s Alliance politician and former Newham Council opposition leader Alan Craig.
During the inquiry their barrister, John Pugh-Smith, accused Tablighi Jamaat of being an “Islamic sect that preaches separation and segregation”, but the group has always insisted it is peaceful and non-political. In a statement, the trustees of the Riverine Centre said: “This is a very positive and constructive move. It enables us to continue to worship while we prepare plans for a permanent scheme on our site.”
“We are working with the planning authorities to create a mixed use scheme that meets both the needs of our community and the planning requirements of the statutory authorities.”
A Newham Council spokesman said: “The current situation cannot continue and in our view his judgement makes this clear.
“We believe the government’s inspector has acknowledged our concerns by imposing stringent conditions on the trust.
“We will continue to take robust and fair enforcement action on this and any other non-compliance issues across the borough.”
There were already 30 mosques in Newham as far back as 2002.

One hilarious afternoon my girlfriend was threatened by a Roma women with three children at the back of Primark. She was begging. The Roma woman was picked up by the police later outside Marble Arch underground. All of Newham is poor. That's why crime is on the increase there. The only one of 31 London Boroughs where rape and gun crime has escalated since 2009.
But the crime stats reveal week in week out, month in month out, year in year out, that non-whites commit far more than 68% of the serious crime, even though they only represent 68% of the population, and that's even after loads of them hasve been imprisoned every year.
If blacks and asians were flourescent green, imo, they would still commit the same amount of crime. It's not their skin colour that matters, it's their culture.

I think people have been scared off from free speach about this and many other issues(injunctions he he) but its a delicate area and you are likely to be accused of racism as soon as you raise the question.

A Manor Park man who disseminated images of child abuse to other paedophiles over the Internet has had his pleas to be allowed back on the web turned down.
John Newman, 46, was jailed for three years at Southwark Crown Court last October after he admitted 13 counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images.
Newman, of Romford Road, was also hit with a Sexual Offenders Prevention Order (SOPO), which banned him from owning or using an Internet-accessing computer, unless for work or education.
At the Court of Appeal last week, Newman accepted his jail term but asked judges to overturn his web ban. Three senior judges took less than five minutes to dismiss his arguments and upheld the terms of the SOPO.
Mr Justice Maddison told the court police arrested Newman in March 2009 after he was detected using “lurid” Internet chat rooms, popular with paedophiles.
The court heard police found more than 24,000 images of child abuse, and 384 movie clips, many of which were at the most depraved level as categorised by police. There were a further 150,000 images that police deemed it unnecessary to examine.
A pre-sentence report for the judge said Newman poses a “medium risk” to children.
Mr Justice Maddison, sitting with Lord Justice Moses and Judge Clement Goldstone, dismissed his plea against the web ban.

Mr Justice Maddison told the court police arrested Newman in March 2009 after he was detected using “lurid” Internet chat rooms, popular with paedophiles.
The court heard police found more than 24,000 images of child abuse, and 384 movie clips, many of which were at the most depraved level as categorised by police. There were a further 150,000 images that police deemed it unnecessary to examine.
A pre-sentence report for the judge said Newman poses a “medium risk” to children.
Mr Justice Maddison, sitting with Lord Justice Moses and Judge Clement Goldstone, dismissed his plea against the web ban.

Breaking news blacks commit more crime than whites shocker. Everyone knows this. (apart from a few extreme sandal swearers who won't admit it to themselves.) The reasons are put down to social depravity not to mention years of slavery. Fair enough this is probably true. But as I don't like getting payback for slavery I choose to live in an area with very few ethnics, maybe the OP should do the same.
One comment I can make and back up with evidence is the city I lived and worked in for many years. It was an immigrant city in the sense many groups moved into it over 3 decades to work medium level industry - cars and weapons mainly. Plenty of asian groups, Scottish, Welsh and Irish,but not a lot of West Indian.
In my professional capacity during that time I did not encounter one very serious crime commited by black or asian under 18s. All I ever encountered were poor white working class with the occasional middle class offender. We are talking murder, arson and serious GBH sort of crimes. I am absolutely sure asians and blacks offended but certainly not on the scale or over representation we seem to be having now.

They went to a quiet and secluded area of the park near the Upton Lane section of the park, which sprawls across West Ham and Forest Gate.
“It was here that the rape took place,” said a Scotland Yard police spokeswoman.
“The teenage boy then escaped from the scene on his mountain bike,” she added.
The rape took place in the park, which is run by the City of London Corporation, between 6 and 7pm on Friday May 27.
The girl made her way back to her friend and they reported the crime to police, who sealed off the park for forensic tests for some hours.
Officer from the Sapphire unit were not able to fully interview the victim until several days after the attack.
The police unit, which is based in Cam Road, Stratford, exists to help those who have been raped or sexually assaulted.
They specialise in investigating rape and sexual assault cases, providing victims with the support and care that they need.
They use specialist centres, called The Havens for people who have been raped or sexually assaulted.
They can help victims recover, physically and motionally, from their difficult experience.
Anyone who may have information on the attack is asked to contact police in the Sapphire Team on (020) 8217 9862 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A Newham Council caretaker led a double life as a ‘key player’ in a Nigerian people smuggling gang which subjected children to Juju magic rites and forced them into prostitution, a court heard.
Two teenage girls underwent bizarre rituals which saw one of them shut in a coffin and forced to eat a raw chicken heart, jurors were told.
The ceremonies were intended to ensure the victims were ‘bound’ to a medicine man and would never reveal the truth about what had happened to them, Woolwich Crown Court heard.
Anthony Harrison, 32, from Stratford allegedly raped both girls once they arrived in the UK.
He then attempted to ship them on to Spain and Greece to work in the sex industry, it is said.
Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones told jurors that the girls were just 14 and 16 when they were brought into the UK in 2009.
They were from small villages in Nigeria with limited education and little exposure to the outside world.
Both were from the Edo state where Juju black magic or medicine “exists side by side and in conjunction with other religions.”
Both were subjected to ceremonies involving this black magic and it has taken two years of painstaking work for police investigators to build up sufficient trust for the girls to open up about what happened to them.
Following the “grooming” the girls were sent to the UK on false documents and “into the hands” of the accused.
She said Harrison was “a key player in a sophisticated and organised criminal network for West African people traffickers who have been operating in the UK.”
He arrived in the UK in April 2003 and although his asylum application and subsequent appeals were refused he was granted indefinite leave to remain. He was employed by the borough from August 2004 until his arrest last November, using the false name of Charles Pepple, one of seven aliases he has used at different times.
She said he kept the girls in his home in Albert Square, where he raped them before attempting to move them on to the continent.
Harrison denies four counts of conspiracy to traffic people into and out of the UK for sexual exploitation; two counts each of false imprisonment and rape and four of conspiracy to facilitate breaches of immigration law.
The court heard he has admitted five counts of fraud by using false names to obtain employment, credit cards and telephones.
Police eventually tracked Harrison down using a jigsaw of evidence from the victims, financial and mobile phone records and CCTV footage, the court heard.

He arrived in the UK in April 2003 and although his asylum application and subsequent appeals were refused he was granted indefinite leave to remain. He was employed by the borough from August 2004 until his arrest last November, using the false name of Charles Pepple, one of seven aliases he has used at different times.
She said he kept the girls in his home in Albert Square, where he raped them before attempting to move them on to the continent.
Harrison denies four counts of conspiracy to traffic people into and out of the UK for sexual exploitation; two counts each of false imprisonment and rape and four of conspiracy to facilitate breaches of immigration law.
The court heard he has admitted five counts of fraud by using false names to obtain employment, credit cards and telephones.
Police eventually tracked Harrison down using a jigsaw of evidence from the victims, financial and mobile phone records and CCTV footage, the court heard.
The trial continues.

A Plaistow college whose business was wrecked when the government banned it from sponsoring non-EU students’ entry into the UK has failed in a High Court challenge to the decision
Westech College, which at the time of its last inspection catered exclusively for students from outside the EU, was investigated as part of a major immigration clampdown last summer.
That culminated in the UK Borders Agency’s decision to strip the college of its power to effectively grant non-EU students the right to come to the UK.
With every one of the college’s 155 enrolled students coming from outside the EU’s borders, the decision will have had a devastating effect.
In a High Court challenge, lawyers for the college argued that it was wrong to strip it of its right in relation to non-EU students, but today had their case - and a £248,000 damages claim - rejected by a top judge.
Mr Justice Silber told the court that the college had not initially provided the Home Office with all of the information it wanted in relation to the investigation.
And, when it did, some of it was wrong, detailing work placements by its students at care homes in Plymouth and Leyton, East London, when they had actually worked elsewhere.
Lawyers for the college argued that it was wrong to first suspend its right to send letters conferring the right to study in the UK, and then to remove it altogether.
But the UKBA said the fact that the college did not know where some of its students were doing their placements meant they were not being properly monitored.
That meant there was a “real risk” that the students might “go missing”, take other jobs and become very difficult for the authorities to track down.
And the college itself had not secured proper planning permission to allow it to lawfully operate from its base in Ballam Street, Plaistow, lawyers told the court.
Mr Justice Silber said: “I conclude that UKBA was entitled to suspend the claimant, especially as there is no basis for challenging the factual basis of that decision, as it is clear that, first, the claimant was conducting its business in breach of planning permission, and second, the claimant had no idea where at least three of its students were doing their work experience and so it could not monitor them.”
He continued: “There was a very real risk that students could disappear or take on unauthorised employment if they were not properly monitored.
“These factors and the absence of planning permission entitled UKBA to terminate the claimant’s sponsorship.”

At one point she was made to watch a pornographic film while she was raped before being made to perform a sex act on one of her drunken attackers.
In a phone call, one accused invited a fourth man to join in.
The attack took place during a drink-fuelled party in Seven Kings, Ilford, on January 10 last year after the men managed to separate the victim from her uncle and male friend, before plying her with strong drink.
All three men were convicted by a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court of two counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment.
They were: 32-year-olds Kestutis Zotkevicius, of Boundary Way, Plaistow, Tomas Stucinskas, of no fixed abode and Rimdydas Kazaciunas, 27, of Brook Road, Seven Kings.
Kazaciunas and Stucinskas were both jailed for 12 years. Zotkevicius was jailed for 10 years and six months as he played no part in druagging her from the taxi.

Man shot in thigh in Canning Town
The shooting happened in Bernard Cassidy Street, Canning Town, at about 7.10pm.
The 39-year-old victim, was sitting in the passenger seat of a stationary black Ford Focus when a man wearing dark clothing suddenly opened the door and fired a shot into his leg before running off towards Chandler Street.
The victim was driven by his friend to an east London hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.
There was another shooting which occurred just after midnight in Compton Avenue, East Ham. A black man was seen running down the street shooting at a grey Vauxhall Corsa car. No-one was in the car at the time but damage was caused to the offside front and rear windows.

Reports are now coming in from witnesses, that naturally won't hit the papers, as Newham is the Olynpic Borough.
On another thread I reported on the jovial matter of two morons ripping the mini-statement printer, rather than the ATM, from Barclays in East Ham.
News is in that Barclays Bank at the Boleyn was attacked, along with the TSB and Lloyds.
Primark and JD sports (the chavs choice) were looted, along with a few other shops in East Ham.
I also said that the police were busy trying to stop looters in Custom House and Canning Town, as well as protecting the entrance to The Mall in Stratford.
I don't know how many police stations there are in other boroughs, but Newham has 5.
Stratford, East Ham, Plaistow, North Woolwich and Forest Gate. The last one named was rebuilt with extra strength walls and cells, and is used to hold those suspected of terrorism.
When Tottenham and Hackney kicked off, Newham rightly sent in police from their 5 stations.
Thus leaving the way clear for Galleons Reach shopping precinct in Beckton to get raided.
And as for the Olympic Stadium, it would be understandable if the 'teefing yoofs' attacked it for no other reason that it was there and cost millions.
So a hell of a lot of extra security guards were shipped in to protect it.

Police in Newham arrested 16 people today as part of London-wide crackdown on crime, drugs and antisocial behaviour.
Officers carried out a number of targeted raids during Operation Hawk after urging residents to pass on any knowledge of criminal behaviour in their neighbourhood.
According to the latest figures from the Metropolitan Police, officers executed five warrants in the borough. This included an early morning raid on a cannabis factory in Forest Gate, where 200 plants were found.
Another drugs factory was found in Stratford later in the day, resulting in another arrest. Full details surrounding the operation in Newham have not been released.
Borough Commander Sean Vickers said: “Operation Hawk demonstrates Newham Police’s determination to fight crime and address local concerns to help make Newham a safer place to live, work and stay.
“Our safer neighbourhood teams will continue to work hard to address local crime and concerns throughout Newham and there will be many more operations such as this one to aid in the ‘war on crime’.

there used to be a big outdoor pool in newham, it was filled in years ago but nothing has been built in the space, and it was less crowded than barking lido.
