My ex missus kicked our son, (just turned 18) out.

Not done one big really bad thing, but been taking liberties, treating place like a hotel etc for a year or so.

He's still at college, and I would have been paying maintenance till Oct 10.

So, having paid it for over 15 years myself, I'm gonna ask her to pay me maintenance now.

Wish me luck. :)

Get the Child Benefit book off her, you can claim until his 19th birthday and it's a criminal offence if she draws a penny after he left her house. Then demand cash for winter clothes for him followed by a demand for spring clothes when the snow melts. If she gets any form of housing or council tax benefit, make sure the council know to reduce or stop it. You've only got a few months so milk it fast.
Report TEN2FOLLOWER • January 10, 2010 4:55 PM GMT
I'm just gonna ask for maintenance commensurate to what I have paid. I appreciate it might be a bit less as I earn more.
But it won't leave her in any more hardship than I have been. She'd had over 40 grand off me.

I'll get Child Benefit too.

What a hero you are?!

Your ex is having problems with your son, but rather thatn try and help them both solve the problem, your first consideration is money!

Do you have any idea how desperate the situation must be for her to show him the door? Quite clearly, she has been the better parent for the past 18 years because she bothered to STAY.

I BECAME A SINGLE PARENT 2 DAYS AGO...........well bully for you. Doubt you'll have to many sleepless nights though. No nappies to change, temperatures to monitor, vomit to clean up. No trying to get him ready for school so your both out on time. No childminder tut tutting when your ten minutes late collecting him.

Tell him to start appreciating and respecting his Mother. SET THE EXAMPLE.

Tess, I absolutely detest tha attitude of your first post. His mum chucked him out, co-incidentally just at the age it was no longer profitable to have him. Just because she is a mum doesn't make her the better parent; its frankly a 50/50 bet if you know nothing about it. If she can't hack it, i very much expect Ten can, so that is where the lad should be and mother deserves exactly zero support from now on, financial or emotional.
