Bridge Over Troubled Water-1969-Simon and Garfunkel.
First Single was much earlier in 1960--Strawberry Fair-Anthony Newley which I played on Friday Night from You Tube, for old times sake!
Give me back those 50 years you besterds!:(

The first album I bought (at least with ny own money earned on a paper round) was Ziggy Stardust.
For years I boasted that the first single I bought was the Who's Pinball Wizard until an aunt reminded me that I'd bought Lily the Pink by the Scaffold.

I suspect for some of you that the truth of the matter is that your first album was Jon Pertwee Singing the Runaway Train or a Burl Ives compilation

To be fair, there are albums by boston and elo on here, among other crimes.
But all credit to the Family guy, Leicester's finest. My old man knew some of them, roadied for Roger Chapman later. Arty nutters.

i was 8 years old and won a fancy dress competiton in junior school and they gave me a whsmith voucher. In assembly they asked me to stand up and say what i'd bought with it. Iron maiden - number of the beast, my first ever lp. :)

Confession, the first single I ever bought was "I don't like Mondays" by the Boomtown rats.
But I lied as a child and said it was the Buzzcocks 'Ever fallen in Love".
Lol, shocking record. Confession, the first single I ever bought was "I don't like Mondays" by the Boomtown rats. But I lied as a child and said it was the Buzzcocks 'Ever fallen in Love".
First albums were bought on cassette. I can recall getting Abba - Greatest Hits and Top of The Pops 1975 albums. Think the latter might have had the track Billy Don't Be A Hero on it.
First LP might well have been either Thick As A Brick or Minstrel In The Gallery by Jethro Tull.

My mum wanted me to get The Shadows 20 Golden Greats, but I returned home with 'A Day at the Races' by Queen.
Stuck it on the turntable & my mom hated it - a pleasing result for a 14 y.o

Man....... still going strong, Martin Ace still playing as well as ever. Terry Williams (later with Meatloaf, appeared on nearly all their albums, went on to Dire Straits) still puts in an appearance now and then, has his own part time band 'Breeze'. More on http://www.manband.co.uk/ if you're feeling nostalgic.

First record I ever got my mum to buy me (i guess I was about 8) was the single 'Last Train To Clarkesville'...and it's still a wonderful pop-song!

British Motown Chartbusters Vol 1, cant remember the price but bought it off the back of one of my first singles - This Old Heart Of Mine by The Isleys - that would have been 6s/8p
Was 12 years old, didn't have a record player but was using old radiogram (remember them?) me mum bought in the junk shop.
The album started my love for all things Motown that still holds today.

Cheers plainlazy. I was brought up on the legend of Grech The Wretch (millionaire playing with Eric Clapton, to alchoholic carpet seller in Leicester and sad death). It's great that Chappo got through it all intact.
For anybody who likes acid rock and has never heard Family, this is the first single from 1968 Starts off folky and gets heavier. That was their speciality. John Lennon liked them and you can see why. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AStdtRGJiJY
Get in now before they become trendy again...
