Report Tex AxiLe • January 8, 2010 1:42 PM GMT
For the sake of couple quid, go in your local shop with guitar, guy will probably fit it and tune it for you ,

how has your kid been getting on with the guitar prior to the string breaking, still remember the first time i broke a string, scared the hell out of me
Report boggle • January 8, 2010 1:54 PM GMT
If you are thinking of buying some from that page you need to make sure you replace them with like strings. Some of those there are steel, some are nylon. There'll be tears before bedtime if you try string a nylon strung guitar with steel strings, for instance.

Go in the shop and find out. Good set up can transform any guitar.

Think he over-tightened thing you turn at top...was not in at time...

Most music shop owners are enthusiastic, spotty Saturday workers need to be avoided,
Report The Leopard • January 8, 2010 1:56 PM GMT
They are steel strings.......make is Redwood...

Report STUDYFORM • January 8, 2010 2:06 PM GMT
The thinnest string is the 1st not the 6th. Easy to change, and most music shop staff should show you how, but I wouldn't be paying for it!
Report laroche • January 8, 2010 2:07 PM GMT
Worth getting a tuning implement (fork, pipe etc) as well; will help avoid over-tightening in the future. Fork works well for me.
Report everythings gone green • January 8, 2010 2:08 PM GMT
You can get a little electronic tuning gadget for about a tenner.
Report boggle • January 8, 2010 2:10 PM GMT
yep, cheap little clip on guitar tuner, clips on picks up the vibration, as egg says less than a tenner.
Report laroche • January 8, 2010 2:10 PM GMT
EGG

How do they work?
Report brngtwt • January 8, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
Get an electronic tuner for your kid or he will lose interest very quickly. get him some lessons as well , otherwise the guitar will be an ornament.
Report brngtwt • January 8, 2010 2:15 PM GMT
They are fool proof laroche. You play the string and a meter , like the old ones on a tape deck that showed the rec levels, swings up and down showing the pitch. Perfectly tuned guitar in about 20 seconds.
Report laroche • January 8, 2010 2:18 PM GMT
Ta. I want one!
Report The Leopard • January 8, 2010 2:30 PM GMT
Thank you for your input all...

You can buy a 6th E String for a quid at your local music shop and they will probably string it for you too. Not difficult.
Ebay?
Someone would see you coming and charge £1.50 p&p.
Report overboard • January 8, 2010 2:44 PM GMT
Sorry. That was 1st string E.
6th is thickest.
Report The Leopard • January 8, 2010 2:49 PM GMT
okay...

You are probably less likely to get ripped off in a independent music shop than anywhere, but it woud be best to go to a guitar shop. They know you could be a customer for life and they are usually music nuts themselves. There are always notices asking for bands to be formed etc and it is quite a communal thing.

I think one of the best things you can do for your children is get them to cultivate a hobby that hopefully would be a lifelong one. Playing the guitar is an excellent hobby for anyone, especially men. As I write I am looking at one of my favourite possessions, a les paul guitar, given to me by an ex boyfriend. He was mad about guitars and music and played in an band for fun. It is a great hobby for pulling girls!!!
