Reminds me a bit of when Pompey got promoted. Some clown wanted £1 at 1000/1 on them staying up, when 1000/1 was the 'win the league' odds.

He whinged that once the bet was taken, they should pay.

In a busy bookies, its not possible to vet every single bet when you take it.

Chancer.

The papers love this. Journos never understand it, do they?

The staff in the shop either didn't look at or didn't understand the bet - which is the fault of Badcrooks, and the bloke is trying it on.

If he'd done it in my shop I'd have explained the rules to him, clearly. Then told him to feck off.

It's like the chav a few years ago, who claimed (also at badcrooks) to have got a £5 Acca up on ALL 59 matches on a footy coupon. He'd obviously just added the 1s 2s and Xs after placing the bet - and it would have paid £billions, the NOTW still made it a front page story.

Study knows the score ffs!

It is no big secret that the big 3 invested in software rather than personel when computerised EPOS ext came in. They work on the basis that they can save more employing cashiers rather than managers with any real working knowledge of the game than any **c ups they make will cost them. A decent manager sets the tone for any bookies, promotes product, conversation and atmosphere. The lack of such folk these days is why most decent judges bet at home and betting shops are mainly dives being subsidised by chavs hammering away at the FOBT's.
Report STUDYFORM • January 8, 2010 2:38 PM GMT
kingfisher I don't purport to employ them.
As I said it's badcrooks fault they don't know what they're doing!
All the bookies want now is supermarket type cashiers, they don't want their staff to know or understand anything. Possibly because many of those at Head Office don't know anything either.

Irrespective of this, the punter is a **ing dirtbag, who deserves nothing.
Report Easter 1916 • January 8, 2010 2:38 PM GMT
I used to do a similar thing (to the 59 results) study. In the days of the duplicate slips I'd put a piece of card between the bet I was about to place (it would just be a throwaway £1 or similar on the dogs) and then I'd remove the card and write it so my duplicate copy would read something daft like '£1 double, elvis and shergar to both be alive 1000/1' or '£2 ben hur, 315 chariot race' and then take it down the pub and show it to people so they'd think I was a loon. I probably am. It used to make me chuckle tho.

A PUNTER PLACING A BET IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING THE RULES BEFORE HE PLACES THE BET. IF HE PLACED A BET WHICH IS NOT WITHIN THE RULES IT'S HIS OWN FAULT.

THE CASHIER IS NOT THERE TO CHECK YOU BET OR THE RULE FOR YOU,BUT JUST PROCESS THE BET IN THE BELIEF THAT MUG PLACING IT KNOWS THE RULES.

IF I WAS LADBROKES I WOULD HAVE JUST REFUNDED HIS £5 AND THEN BANNED HIM FOR LIFE. CHEEKY RAT

Report Dimitrios • January 8, 2010 2:48 PM GMT
SPECIALS ARE SINGLES ONLY IN GENERAL HOWEVER THE BET IS ALSO RELATED CONTINGENCY.

IF IT'S SNOWING IN ONE PART OF THE UK IT INCREASES THE CHANCES OF OTHER PARTS EVEN IF ONLY BY 1% IN SOME CASES.

IF YOU BACK SNOW IN SAY LIVERPOOL AND THEN MANCHESTER THEN OBVIOUSLY IT IS RELATED BECAUSE IF IT SNOWS IN ONE OR THE OTHER WITH THEM BEING SO CLOSE TOGETHER THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY GOING TO HAVE A FAIR CHANCE OF HAVING SIMILAR WEATHER.

HONESTLY LAD'B SHOULD TELL THIS MUG TO KISS IT.
Report kingfisher 23 • January 8, 2010 2:48 PM GMT

Report Dimitrios • January 8, 2010 2:51 PM GMT
KINGFISHER - IT IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THE RULES.

IF HE PLACES IT ON A ILLEGAL BET AND IT LOSES, IN WHICH CASE IT SHOULD BE VOID EITHER WAY GOING BY THE RULES AS YOU SAY.

HOWEVER BECAUSE HE WAS SUCH A IDIOT TO DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE HE DESERVES TO LOSE HIS MONEY JUST FOR THAT ALONE.

You're talking blollox, kingfisher.
1st - Sleepers are there to be collected. How the feck can a bookie pay up if someone doesn't come into the shop.
2nd - The ONLY ** here was the punter.

So, if a punter gets an unattentive or uncaring cashier to put 200/1 about a 2/1 shot, the bookie should pay out?
OR
If a trainee takes a bet of: No Goalscorer, 0-0 and Draw (all in the same game) in a treble, that **ing **wit placing the bet, who is trying to effectively steal from the bookie (like the Snow bloke is), should be paid out in full, yes?

If your bet isn't being taken, no-one is **ing you. I have NEVER seen a bookie ** money from a punter, but it happens the other way round all the time.

All FOBT's should be banned, and they should be regulated by someone who understands the game.
Report kingfisher 23 • January 8, 2010 3:00 PM GMT
Every bet should be checked by someone who knows the game, why dont multi million pound organisations try paying people more than minimum wage and they might get staff with knowedge, if not pay out the scamsters, im sure they can cope with the loss. If you take the bet pay out, to avoid it pay someone a salary not a wage.

Report STUDYFORM • January 8, 2010 3:08 PM GMT
They don't want staff who know what they're doing. It could be a security risk.
They always display rules, and ANYONE who knows about betting knows related bets cannot be combined.

Being an uniformed or **ing punter should NOT mean you can put any old bet on and get paid for it. The fact that the staff don't earn much has nothing to do with it.

Also with the snow bet, it wouldn't of gone in the sleepers at all, one non snow location it would have a red line through it and the guy told unlucky!!

Report custardcream64 • January 8, 2010 4:06 PM GMT
The bet in question once again shows the lack of training new staff must get .
In fact on their first day they are probably told , 'this is a FOBT , this is how you open it , this is how you remove the money and close it again and here's how you switch it back on . If the machines break down you must call this number at once .Training over' .
My mate backed O'Sullivan to win a snooker tournament a couple of years ago at 10-3 and the price was written on the slip .
He won and when my mate when to collect his winnings was told , 'sorry , nothing back on this slip he didn't win 10-3 , he won 13-6 !
