3 inches of snow and it becomes a 1.01 shot that they will close them over here.

Would not let the kids out at lunch today due to a powdering of snow. Crazy decision.

complete tosh...........the health and safety of hundreds of children far exceeds the need for a days education when they are all staring out of the window at the snow................safety always comes first, when we fail youngsters in this aspect then we are not doing our job properly

Does anyone know exactly why the schools close when it snows?

teachers unable to get into work (nap)
unsafe for children to be on school premisis/grounds (nb)

1 Make teachers live within a radius of the school. This policy works for many jobs where you are required to be able to get in quickly.

2 Why does a bit of snow make the premises unsafe?

I agree with you Bix, Im just giving you the usual reasons the schools give out in such circumstances..

Not so long ago this weather was normal every winter but the schools didn't close so what has happened/changed that now makes it necessary to close them?
Report larry grayson • January 6, 2010 7:58 AM GMT
It has become important to make the kids understand that they must never put up with any inconvenience or hardship and that at the mere hint of a problem the towel should be thrown in every time.

Well I must be imagining the racing being off from December to March and the building industry shutting down in Jan/Feb every year, not being able to play sunday football when the ground was frozen for weeks on end, when it used to snow, thaw out a bit then snow again until the snow was about 12". When you made a slide on the ice and it was there for days when the milk was always frozen on the step in the morning with the cream pushed out about an inch. When you couldn't open the windows in the winter because the condensation had frozen them from inside.
Perhaps I also imagined the fogs every year which were so bad you couldn't even see a yard ahead. When they came down everything had to shut about mid-day and you walked home if you could find your way.
