do what makes you happy. YOU, not your reflection in others. Are you doing a phd because it will impress others; or because you want to? Are you planning to get a job because you need routine and regular interaction with others - or is it social conditioning that makes you embarrassed when others find out you haven't got a job?

In the words of Quentin Crisp - the only way to be happy is to live your life as though you are the only person in the world.

sit on your @rse and sign on, receive a nice house with all the bills paid for where you can drink, sleep and play with no hassles......seems very popular nowadays

bin men have a cushy job shirley. get up. dont bother having a wash or a shave. tell each other rude jokes. whinge about immigrants. drool over some** on page 3. push a bin about 5 feet. scrath your testicles. push a bin back where you got it from. have a bacon sarnie. go back to bed.

i am sure you are a good person m8, never change, don't worry about others if they try to bring you down they are not worth it. Plenty of good people about.

thanks all

some nice advice here
Report ReaseHeath • January 5, 2010 10:51 PM GMT
Don't you get funding for a PhD? Good time to do one given state of economy- we'll come out of recession slowly so even if it takes 3 years it's worthwhile as long as the research is meaningful and opens a potential career path (beyond academia if possible).
Report rustyboy • January 5, 2010 10:55 PM GMT
yes equivalent of £22,000 (=£17,000 as its an untaxed grant)

not to be sniffed at.

get a job u lazy fvcker...u won't necessarily make any more dough if ur a phd as opposed to say an msc or even bsc.
Report Six of Clubs • January 5, 2010 11:01 PM GMT
1 do what makes you happy

2 try and get in touch with the people doing the type of work you want to do and ask them

are the 2 best bits of advice i can give at this late hour.
Report lmfao • January 5, 2010 11:02 PM GMT
1. get into an industry that pays well
2. get out as soon as you cabn afford to
Report bodil • January 5, 2010 11:11 PM GMT
A bit late now. I recommend running about naked screaming "it's too late." But I always lacked the artistic touch.
Report Brodie • January 5, 2010 11:20 PM GMT
Get a job as bodil's psychiatrist. You'll never cure him and he'll still be morbid ,but you'll bring in the big bucks ;)
Just joshing bodil :D
