The skips will be full of LCDs and plasmas in 18 months...OLED Technology is the way to go, coming in on phones/laptops ,see your screen in direct sunlight

OLEDs vs LCDs
OLEDs have the following advantages over today's flat-panel tech (LCD or plasma):

One of my favourite sites is www.hotukdeals.com

If you spot a bargain then put it up. There's a 42" Hitachi HD screen for £339 which is a great price.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/566326/hitachi-42ldf30u-full-hd-digital-lc

Hav a rummage and you'll find a decent deal for a 50" beast.

oled, i am musing, but find it all confusing....
Report Richard LL • December 27, 2009 8:01 PM GMT
only an amoeba would rule out a Toshiba
Report Richard LL • December 27, 2009 8:04 PM GMT
you'd have to be**ers,**ing, Boris Becker to purchase a Decca.
Report Ricardo-1 • December 27, 2009 8:08 PM GMT
nothing really confusing about LED tv's..they just use a bunch of small LED's for a back light instead of the big light tubes that standard lcd's use atm.so they use less power and can be made alot slimmer
Report Occam's Razor • December 27, 2009 8:29 PM GMT
A 50 inch OLED TV is 3 years away and would probably cost over 20 grand.
Report Ricardo-1 • December 27, 2009 8:42 PM GMT
ah ok,i thought LED and OLED were the same thing..£3200 for an 11inch Sony OLED at john lewis .LOL
Report Don No1 • December 27, 2009 8:47 PM GMT
Budget?
Report Jacey • December 27, 2009 8:50 PM GMT
about 1400
Report Don No1 • December 27, 2009 9:07 PM GMT
In that case the panasonic 50V10 is meant to be a brilliant TV as far as plasmas go, no idea about LCDs
Report Jacey • December 28, 2009 2:28 PM GMT
narrowed down to samsung 46 or 55 backlit led.....
Report kenvil • December 28, 2009 2:49 PM GMT

Spent ages searching the net for a good deal at a good price, considered a 50 inch but the picture quality on the largest sets didn't appear as sharp as the smaller ones.

Despite the warnings re LG above I found the following reviews.

http://www.whathifi.com/Review/LG-42LH5000/

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/plasma-and-lcd-tvs/lg-42lh5000-592829/review

Had the set 3 days, easy to set up, superb picture all for £699.00, which I consider a bargain.

I don't get my SKY HD connection till next week but can honestly say I am happy with the picture as it is....would highly recommend.
