I would agree was in New York last Feb about a foot and a half of snow lying on the edge of the 'sidewalk', their roadsweepers are never of the streets keeping it clear.
I have been in Vaasa (Northern Finland) in the middle of Jan, minus 20° everything works!. Now you could say they are use to it etc, but they dont panic they just deal with it.
I work now for the NHS - we constantly get e-mails from the 'adverse weather co-ordinator' advising us of the procedures & policies on the 'intranet' advising us how to walk in the snow etc I kid you not. Non of these procedures were required 20 or 30 years ago, they just had workmen clearing the roads and streets.

The Finns weren't so clever yesterday when one of their double-decker trains smashed through the platform at Helsinki station and landed up in the station hotel.
According to Finnish news, the brakes failed because of the cold weather.
Here's a BBC link but you can get more off of Finnish telly.

Fair enough, but when I have been to Finland (about 6 times in winter) things worked fine. Airports were open, thing I liked as well was that the car parks all has a electric point that you plugged your car heater into. You could set it on a time to come on say half an hour before you finished work. Your car was lovely and warm and it did not flatten your car battery.

They don't need foreigners to do the shooting, the Finns are very capable of shooting each other especially in schools. They also changed sides more often than the italians during the war.

The women may be free spirited but they're mostly fat munters with delusions of normality and flat noses. Better go to Sweden if you want a woman up there.

Tallin sounds good. Did you visit that medieval street they dug up years ago but the communists wouldn't let westerners see? I'd like to go there one day.

Tallin is a fantastic place. Really friendly people quite Westernised they detest Russians with a vengence. The historical old town is well worth a visit. The old town centre looked like the place in Chitty chitty bang bang, I have expected to see the child catcher running around with a big net!
The medieval buildings and new buildings seem to blend quite well together.
