Can't beat a nice bit of proper carved ham in some crusty bread with a good English mustard generously spread.

lol glossy. That is exactly, and I mean exactly, what I am eating now.

just gotta decide if having it with salad an hot bread, jacket potatoes with pickles an chutney or with bubble n squeak pickles n chutney

The local deli do ham on the bone and it is truly sublime. I have never properly checked but it is about 14 euros a kilo or thereabouts. This packet ham you see is full of salt and water and is complete rubbish in comparison, pay the extra few bucks and eat proper food.

boiling mine in the slow cooker with a bit of sugar and vinegar. then eating it cold tomorrow an wednesday

I do mine in the sow pot. with rough chopped red onion, carrot, fennel, parsnips and a cup of apple juice or cider. Absolutely divine. good cold next day too, (only the ham that is).

Sainsburys deli counter does decent ham right off the joint for you too. It is pennies more than te packet stuff.

the wafer thin value stuff is just pants, and not even good value for money when you look at it properly.

nothing wrong with wafer-thin, yorky, as long as it from parma or similar
Report TEN2FOLLOWER • December 28, 2009 8:36 PM GMT
love parma here
Report Mc Moonbeam • December 28, 2009 8:42 PM GMT
my mom had some too .. proper sliced stuff in proper paper

still had the price on it ... £4.59 ;)
Report Tevez is God • December 28, 2009 8:45 PM GMT
parma ham with sundried tomatoes & artichoke hearts cannot be beaten imo
Report Mc Moonbeam • December 28, 2009 8:46 PM GMT
that honey or mustard ham tastes like ****
Report positively4thsteet • December 28, 2009 8:49 PM GMT
York ham better than iberico or parma ham imo
Report billy hill • December 28, 2009 8:50 PM GMT
I think you are missing the cheese angle to all this ham topic.
Cut a small cube of goats cheese, wrap around with parma ham and skewer with a**tail stick or two. Fry for a few minutes each side to crisp the ham and melt the cheese. :)
Report Tevez is God • December 28, 2009 8:54 PM GMT
two different things rob... I also love a coarse cut english ham with a seasonal chutney :)

sounds good billy :)

There was a similar thread a few days ago, and someone suggested ham cooked in coca-cola!
Curiousity got me, and I found this...

mine just about cooked. just tried a bit an its lovely
Report positively4thsteet • December 28, 2009 8:58 PM GMT
I like Iberico ham on its own with nothing whereas york ham is lovelyin a roll with buttr and mustard or pickle, or even as partof a croque monsieur. When i've had iberico or parma in this country from supermarket not so impressed tbh. When i was in barcelona i hd loads of iberico ham, we used to buy it by the plate full, really nice - butthey used to eat it with this tomatoey bread but the bread was just soggy - as if they'd dipped it in tomato juice. would rather eat the ham neat.
