pears, or, as Disraeli said, "We shall not stand for it - no sir, not at all." It seems that when Tigers are confronted with Lions, they will generally back down. Lions are said to be braver than tigers - yet, if they have to fight, Tigers will win in about 90% of cases. Lions tend to stand on three feet or charge. Tigers fight on two hind legs.

The Lion has the advantage of a mane that protects its neck, but Tigers are more intelligent, agile, bigger, and they are good at directing their attacks.

But could a LARGE BEAR beat a Tiger ?

I'll have some big bear action at those odds.

bear would destroy lion/tiger//

they used to set up exactly them types of fights early last century in states.. bears usually crush the skull of lion/tiger with first blow.. they never get near the bears neck..

There are photos on t'Internet of a leopard charging into water and pulling out a fairly big crocodile to maul and eat it.
Report Velasquez • December 27, 2009 1:53 PM GMT
Google - LEOPARD ATTACKS CROCODILE and you get the Daily Mail showing the photos.
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 1:57 PM GMT
that wasn't a big croc.

I'm talking about 6m long saltie - what chance then?

On land or water?

Home or away?
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 1:58 PM GMT
either.
Report Velasquez • December 27, 2009 1:59 PM GMT
I think a tiger or big bear would win on land.
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 1:59 PM GMT
what about gorilla?
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 2:00 PM GMT
crocs are quite limited in their attacking style i suppose. a big cat would, presumably, be too quick to get caught. if big cat can get on the crocs back it has a chance.
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 2:01 PM GMT
Gorilla vs Bear for instance would be interesting.
Report Velasquez • December 27, 2009 2:01 PM GMT
These are top fights bit I feel drugs or CGI would have to be involved. Unless its King Kong, I'd go Big Cat again.

In "Death in the Afternoon", Hemingway tells of a circus fight between a tiger and a Spanish fighting bull. The bull won.

Seen a tiger jump on a crocs back ( on land ) and bite its neck. Game over very quickly.
Can't see a gorilla standing much chance against a bear. It has nothing to hurt it with.
Report Velasquez • December 27, 2009 8:55 PM GMT
What if it's a man in a gorilla suit wielding a gun?
Report the bloob • December 27, 2009 9:34 PM GMT
nothing would stand a chance against a bear, and it would be all over within seconds, one swipe of the paw and it would tear anything to shreads
Report positively4thsteet • December 27, 2009 9:38 PM GMT
shark v croc?
Report Slippy Blue • December 27, 2009 9:46 PM GMT
A brown bear at 10.0 against a tiger would be without the bet of the century. They can weigh up to 1500 pouds, it would be no contest whatsoever. The bear would smash the tiger to pieces and rip it shreds for good measure.

Documented cases of Siberian Tigers killing and eating adult Brown Bears. Of course they also kill crocodiles/ pythons in India . Crocodiles usually back down against big cats.

It does depend i suppose on the circumstances as i expect the tigers that have killed brown bears probably ambushed them . A Brown Bear and a Tiger would surely back away if they both saw the other coming along.

If the Tiger has enough room for manouvere and charging then it would beat anything i'd say . In a confined space a bigger animal , such as a Bear ( probably only a grizzly or polar bear though) or a Bull would be fav.

Frightening to think what a Gorilla might be capable of if it could be bothered , as a large man would have no chance against a Chimpanzee.

Elephant?
Report positively4thsteet • December 28, 2009 12:49 AM GMT
do big cats ever attack gorillas/chimpanzees etc? i've never heard of cases, presume that as they can climb up a tree easily enough is unlikely to ever happen.

saw a vid earlier of bear vs wolves, ended up as a stalemate, but the wolves were far too quick for the bear, the bear never got close to laying a paw on any of them.
Report positively4thsteet • December 28, 2009 12:52 AM GMT

Report tobermory • December 28, 2009 12:57 AM GMT
Yeah an Elephant is not gonna be killed by a Tiger, but they just avoid each other anyway

Really, you seem something of an expert Tober. How exactly do they go about killing a rhino? Would be interesting.

Could they kill a hippo?
