I have booked for my parents to have Xmas dinner in a nice eating establishment with me my wife and 3 children. £150 a head.
My wife fell out with my mum today and she is refusing to go if my mum does.

Do I go and leave someone behind or just take the kids or write it off?

Your missus should be more gracious.

Do 'some magic' on them both so it somehow works out really well, while acting**y and smarmy the whole time. Then explain how you did it at the end of the show.
Report Derren Brown • December 22, 2009 8:01 PM GMT
Sorry they got married on the 27th I thought it would be a nice gesture. My mum has cooked every year. Thought she deserved a break

To be honest Mr Brown, if you are smart enough to pick the facking lottery numbers then you should have seen this coming.

I saw it comin ages ago to be fair. There has been an argument due for ages. But not 3 day before bloody Xmas

Report HRH The Lager Khan • December 22, 2009 8:05 PM GMT
Or play Russian Roulette again, at £150 a head you could save quite a bit.
Report Hearts.no1 • December 22, 2009 8:06 PM GMT
I would speak to the wife explaining lifes to short etc etc.

Ask her how she would feel making you fall out with your own mother,if she does'nt care about that.................

Maybe stop for a game of football before lunch and tell her that hostilities can recommence at 6pm.

* not serious the post above. but some sort of bribe so that wife will "put up" with mother every so often even if they really hate each other
Report Derren Brown • December 22, 2009 8:14 PM GMT
sorry she's 37
Report Derren Brown • December 22, 2009 8:17 PM GMT
It sounds a lot of money. (it is a lot of money). But no more / less than throwing some sort of party with friends family etc
Report Hearts.no1 • December 22, 2009 8:17 PM GMT
If shes 37 and not listening to reason there is not a lot I can say, last roll of the dice would be, how would you feel if something tragic happened to my mother and you denied me the chance of a family xmas dinner ?

but tbh she does sound like someone who would not listen to reason so I hope everything settles down and she sees sense, merry xmas.
Report Derren Brown • December 22, 2009 8:20 PM GMT
Ty hearts.
Posting is a kind of release. No one else to discuss it with.
I've had a large glass of wine and a beer. Hopefully things will calm down by Xmas eve.
I'm gonna buy a turkey tomorrow just in case.

Report rayzor • December 22, 2009 8:39 PM GMT
I would speak to your mother and get her to make the first step and apologise/make up with your wife. Seems like your mother has more to lose in this situation as it is her day that will be spoiled.

Time is a great healer on these things and you still have some time to go. Hope it goes well.

This time next year you'll have your own show Richard and Judy Anne and Nick.
Honestly, I have a grin on my face. Has Mrs H posted before?

interference
My mother has a habit of offering uneccessary advice / letting herself in/ expressing an opinion.
^ she did all 3 today Mrs B had enough and let rip with both barrels
It wasn't a problem when we lived 200 miles away. My WIFE wanted to move here cos she liked it.

Oh my mum has been told how her antics can offend.

Im gonna get an early night good night all. I'll let u know how tomorrow goes. I might raffle the lunch for charity if it ges completelt t1ts up

good luck m8 ;)
Report TEN2FOLLOWER • December 22, 2009 9:08 PM GMT
You should tell your mum not to interfere before your missus has to let rip.
You should tell your missus you aren't wasting £750 and to get real.

You should tell them both to grow up because life is too short for this...

I lost my mum this past summer and with no parents left I now fully realise just how precious the time is when they are still with us.

Don't find out the hard way....

Good evening.
Sorry I haven't been able to post. In a bizarre twist of fate the gods threw a curve ball working to my advantage.
We have had a power cut. A very long, cold power cut. An all day no leccy job.
For the good of the kids I had to phone good ol' mum and take em there to keep warm. Mrs B burst into tears and apologised.
The rest is history.
Lets hope they don't get pi**ed xmas day and fall out again.
Happy Xmas forum.
P.S Ty Santa or whoever wangled the leccy ;)
Report Hearts.no1 • December 23, 2009 6:55 PM GMT
