Are they "heroes" as the press constantly tell us?

I think not.

Surely you are a hero if you do something heroic?

Just being there is not (in my opinion) heroic.

My old man was in the Falklands, in the Navy. I don't regard him as a hero for that. It was his job and he's been taking taxpayers money for 20 years on the offchance that he might one day have to go to war.

Doing something where you weigh up the options and then do what you know is the most dangerous option (maybe to save someone else's life) is heroic.

Watch ITV at 9pm after Coronation Street. I think the answer will become obvious.

While taking the shilling rather obviously means that you're supposed to put yourself in harm's way if the call comes, I'm happy to call the job heroic and thus, the men and women heroes.

I understand the Greek, you see :)

Don't know about "heroes" as such but these boys are the bravest of the brave and as mentioned above what they are doing is "heroic" in that it involves literally putting thier lives on the line.

In fairness though most toilet cleaners could be described as heroic in comparison to the average depressed lonely benefit claiming alcocholic who frequents Chit Chat imo
