Done a silly thing yesterday.
I spilt a whole bowl of cereal with milk over my laptop keypad.
Managed to clear up the spillage as fast as I could.
But I can no longer conect to the internet wirelessly as I could before. :(
The milk has dried underneath the keypad and I'm guessing this is why I'm unable to connect to the internet without using the yellow cable thingy stuck in the side.
My question is:- is it repairable? and how much will it cost?

would like to say I have read your post but I'm afraid I don't know

if it's water then often it repairable, but other liquids, then unlikely

It was rice Krispies.

Can you now type with it ok? the problem is almost certainly your onboard wifi module (hence being able to connect via direct ethernet cable) it usually lies directly beneath the keyboard ,you can buy modules on ebay, but a quicker cheaper **to get you wireless again immeadiately would be just to buy an 802 g usb wireless dongle and connect to your router that way

Was there a snap, crackle and pop sound. If so, it's beyond repair I'm afraid!

is the rest of the PC working ok, inc keyboard?

If so, theres a good chance that its repairable, and possibly quite cheaply too.

Often, a laptop will use a mini PCI wireless module which can be removed much like a memory module. This will be harder to get to that simply upgrading memory as you will need to remove the laptop keyboard first, or even have to remove the underneath of the laptop depending on the model.

Make sure the battery and charger are removed before dismantlying.

The wireless card will be a similar size to the memory stick. If you remove it, it will have a model / make. If you want to find an exact match, type it in google, but pretty much any mini pci wifi card will work. Cost approx £15 - £20 for the device and about 10-15 mins to dismantle and fit.

You in derby area by any chance?

Thanks for the replies ROCKIN HORSE and Jimbo747.
Yes, the keyboard works fine. I examined the back of the computer and saw there were about 8 tiny phillips screws holding the computer together.
I don't have a screwdriver that small and did nt want to bust the threads by trying various sizes of screwdriver only to find they would be the wrong size.
I washoping to take it to a computer repair shop and get them to remove the back and maybe clean away the dried milk? or as one of you guys suggested remove a part and replace it with a new part.
The computer is a H.P Compaq 6720s and I got it 'free'as part of a deal when signing on to AOL.

Im sure you have done this but make sure you haven't knocked the wireless switch off during all the commotion, hopefully its that simple a solution, lol. I finally went round to**my mates laptop for him last week & it turned out to be the wireless switch, lol. Good luck
