if you have sky your box is your property,so therefore if it breaks you have to pay for repair or new one ,to get an engineer to come out its £65 ,or you can get skys warranty at £65 every 3 months - thats 260 a year, given all faults are a software faults which sky can sort or control from their end - they ve got you by the short and curlies, how can the customer own a box when all the software is contolled by sky ,its just a scam to get you to pay 260 a year or 65 per call out - just because their box broke ,

as anyone else had problems been caught out - wondering if those with warranties get no faults yet those without seem to get endless software problems thus charging you or encouraging you to take out the warranty.

as far as warranties go this is up their with the currys 5 yr warranties which cost more than the item you buy

I was having quite a few problems with my Sky+,then took out some repair protection(about £8 a month) and viola, not had any problems for a few years now.
Report sepp blatter • December 19, 2009 6:38 AM GMT
been told its now 65 every 3 months now i.e 22 per month - it should be their box ,usual con ,looks like freeview
Report stewardsenquirey • December 19, 2009 6:46 AM GMT
Just had a look and it's £7 a month(not sure if their are cheaper about)
You want the phone number ?
Report sepp blatter • December 19, 2009 6:48 AM GMT
given the switchover and most people will go digital with sky - thats a 22 per month extra profit youve got to pay just to watch bbc 1 - good business - who decieded to turn off the analog signal - wonder if mr murdoch is their friend.

stew is that with a private company - sky told me last night its 65,

i got new box october 22nd ,fault straight away sorted 28th ,now this box as gone last night ,so 2 boxes faulty in 2 months - yet my old orginal amstrad box is working perfect 15 years old upstairs - its a warranty scam monopoly on the back of the switchover ,sky faults coming to a town near you week after switchover

I think it is a private company(but from memory) I think Sky are the people who recommended them to me.It's £84 for the year. The general enquiries phone number is 08702 41 02 75.
Rather conveniently I don't seem to have any problems since I was covered(before it was monthly issues)
I have no doubt you are correct about Sky being able to control certain problems from their end,and this is another money spinner for them.
Report sepp blatter • December 19, 2009 7:19 AM GMT
its not like a mobile phone - you can drop it ,get mugged etc - no one touches/moves their sky box - any fault is a internal software fault - the bit of the system they control - they downloaded new software to me over the phone - yet im meant to pay for that not to go faulty,

sky have always been pretty good ,expensive but worth it ,but in their quest to squeeze as much out of each customer - they ve gone done the its not working so pay up route - funny ive had 2 boxes loads of problems yet not on warranty - they could easily be causing the faults - i know for certain its not my end and its 2 brand new boxes .

can you get football on freeview if you pay ,i cant get virgin - so how can i get football without having sky system ,

never take extended warranties on items which you can afford to replace.

I had a software fault on mine so I used Copy+ to copy my recordings onto my PC hard drive then copied them back and it worked.

Sky+/HD is a dated product.

Not good enough.

Sky Movies is particuarly bad nowadays. You can download any film in DVD quality in under an hour or start streaming it straight away nowadays.

Does anyone get problems recording one program and watching another ?

certain channels seem to cause problems.
Report Joe Jordan • December 19, 2009 10:09 AM GMT
yes c-cat
along with
you set a green link for a series
it tapes happily in week 1 + week 2 + week 3 then decides to skip on week 4 saying "No Signal"
then tapes week 5 , week 6 , but decides to skip week 7 ...
and so on !!
Bloomin annoying if youre watching a Series ..for continuity ..

got to laugh at you guys paying for a warranty, if your box gets broken only going to be one loser and thats sky, simply cancel your subscription if they won't play ball, at worse phone them up a month later as an old customer willing to come back.
Report takethestand • December 19, 2009 12:44 PM GMT
I got one. 10 months in it started playing up. I called and they sent a new one because 12 month warrenty applied. 6 months on its playing up again. I will call after new year and get it replaced.

New warrenty every time.

I dont believe they are made to last and its a SCAM which i'm doing my damndest to avoid it
