Mine is about to expire and they want £30 - £60 to renew, yet they're available elsewhere online, including Ebay, for less than £10.

Are these the real deal and safe to buy?

Cheers.
I've heard Norton isn't that great.

I've been happy with McAfee, and it would be nice to get it cheap, if it's for real.
Report Shrew D • December 13, 2009 9:19 AM GMT
Don't touch Norton, even if it's for free.

Kaspersky is about the best on the market at the moment.
You could pick up a version from The Works bookchain for under a tenner about 2 weeks ago. Proper bargain.

Norton is a bloated memory hog.

Report WeeWillieWalsh • December 13, 2009 10:32 AM GMT
To be honest, I have never used any of these products on my home computer. Nothing more than a waste of money.

So, keep your money in your pocket, dont renew, go and buy yourself a nice Sunday lunch somewhere.
Report Blue and White army • December 13, 2009 10:33 AM GMT
The one I got was anti virus version 7.
Its the older version but is still excellent and easy to use/install.
I think its only available in the shops. Cost £6.99.
Report TRFC Kev • December 13, 2009 10:46 AM GMT
I bank with Barclays so might take up their offer.

Funny that they don't advertise it widely, but thanks for the heads up.
Report skully • December 13, 2009 12:46 PM GMT
You can get Mcfee free for one year if you bank online with hsbc, i used it and found it good. When it ran out i switched to the microsoft freebie.

Was in tesco last night and saw there own anti virus brand at half price about £7.00.
Report 8sid • December 13, 2009 1:03 PM GMT
i wonder who tesco use
Report Jimmy Diamond • December 13, 2009 2:55 PM GMT
Lets get something straight about Norton.

It is not a computer hogger and doesnt slow down your system anymore than other antivirus software. Most of the people who slate the Norton product do so having experienced a version about 5 years ago. I have used Norton for 2 years and rate it highly although Mcafee, AVG and avast are good products also.

Kaspersky is indeed highly rated although i havent used it myself yet.

Download Comodo security suite, best free one around.
Report TRFC Kev • December 18, 2009 3:06 PM GMT
Hi chaps.

I've taken up the offer from Barclays and Kapersky.

The thing is I've spent the last hour or so trying to install it but to no avail.

It keeps saying it's not compatible with McAfee Anti Virus File System Filter Driver and I should uninstall it.

I've uninstalled everything to do with McAfee.
It still saying I can't install until it's removed.

I can't find it anywhere on my computer so I must have uninstalled it.

Any idea's where I'm going wrong?
Report Hoss • December 18, 2009 3:17 PM GMT
Yup, I've heard of them doing this kind of thing, have you tried going offline the typing in a search on your computer for mcafee?
Report Hoss • December 18, 2009 3:22 PM GMT
Otherwise, this should do it ;)

Follow these directions to download the McAfee Removal Tool and run it to remove the above programs.

1. Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
2. Click Save and save the file to your desktop
3. Close all McAfee Application windows you may have open, and double-click on MCPR.exe to start the removal tool. Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"
4. After the removal tool finishes, you should be prompted to restart your computer.
5. Once the computer restarts, your McAfee product should be uninstalled.
6. If for any reason there appears a red X during the uninstall, go to the following location for more advanced uninstall instructions involving the registry.

http://tools.mcafeehelp.com/doc.php?siteid=1&docid=419397

Extra Optional Steps

1. Open My Computer, double-click on Drive C
2. Double-click on Program Files
3. Look for any McAfee product folders that remain. Right-click on them and choose Delete
4. Close My Computer and other folders

Done all that Hoss.

Rebooted, searched my Hard Drive etc, but it still say's I must remove it.

It's probably their ploy to stop me chaniging security provider.
Report TRFC Kev • December 18, 2009 3:22 PM GMT
I'll give it a go Hoss.
Cheers.
