I've just come off the phone after talking to a very upset chap I know.

This man is in his 60s, as is his wife. He's disabled, his wife is in poor health and they survive on benefits while they wait out the next year or two until they get their pensions.

One of their children, a son in his 30s, has recently returned to the family home after his marriage broke up. He has a job and earns more than his parents get in benefits. He pays nothing to his ex-wife and kids.

This son contributes £25 per week for his 'keep', which consists of food, laundry, internet, cable tv, etc. He does little or no work around the house or garden.

Recently the son's firm sent him on a course which lasted a week, all expenses paid. On his return he announced he wouldn't be paying his mum £25 for that week. His father is less than happy about this, his mother thinks it's fine and is angry with the father for thinking otherwise.

Who's the baddy here? The father or the son?

The son, £25 would even cover the food for a week. How could someone pay so little, cheeky bstard.
Report Kayman • December 6, 2009 7:23 PM GMT
Is this a trick question?

The son - should have his sorry arse booted out.
Report slimfast • December 6, 2009 7:23 PM GMT

He's clearly taking the pi55 but you reap what you sow unfortunately.

He's probably been mollycoddled by mummy all his life while dad has been seething in the background.
Report Brodie • December 6, 2009 7:40 PM GMT
He's a ku nt obviously. Gives nothing to is ex-wife and kids is worse.
Tell the parents to give him £50 and tell him to find some digs.
See what his reaction is then.

Living at home in his 30's. FFS!

Never mind the £25 - Tell him to get a life and start behaving like a proper adult.

He has a bit of trouble in his life and he runs back to mummy and daddy.

Shocking.

Parents should tell him where to go.

I was always told it's a third of your wages for board when at home.
Very fair, imo

well if they are on benefits and claiming a means tested benefit like inc supp, housing benefit they will lose £47.50 a week. that is wot the laws says he is contributing to their household. and they will take that off them unless they are on DLA.

sons never been a man imho

Sadly you would have to conclude they didn't bring him up well enough. Reap/sow.

Maybe there's a good reason for it. He has a crack habit and a Ukranian mistress. Wait, that's two good reasons.

shoot him in the face?
Report Fenway • December 6, 2009 10:56 PM GMT
I would both evict him and report him to the CSA for not supporting his wife and kids.

Report Big Charlie • December 6, 2009 11:29 PM GMT
On first glance, speak to him and ask him for more money. Iif he refuses, give him a slap and chuck him out.

Too many dysfunctional households. All are insane - no good ending.
