that's interesting, I can't remember seeing it in ages.

The 'hero' is a convicted paedo might be one reason.

so 'The Execution of Gary Glitter' was based on a criminal child molester?

I didn't see it. Was it a sympathetic portrayal?
Report numbersix • November 23, 2009 11:45 PM GMT
in my opinion not really even though it was a fictional story loosley based on facts.

but it would be something you would have to see for yourself.

Well that notwithstanding, is it possible the reason OFOTCN is not shown so much is that it portrays a bloke who unknowingly doinked a 15 year-old in positive terms, rather than being hunted down with dogs, might be a reason.

I AM just guessing, but it would be interesting.

jack nicholsens finest performance imo, used to be shown quite often but not these days
Report pandora1963 • November 23, 2009 11:53 PM GMT
the bigger question should be why is BIG DEAL never shown these days?
Report numbersix • November 23, 2009 11:54 PM GMT
an amazing film and performance that won all 5 major Oscars.

The biggest question is why the beeb wiped The Rock & Roll Years

I think for one week every year, the BBC and ITV should rebroadcast it's shows from 30 years ago...so we can see how woefully crap they were!
Report Velasquez • November 24, 2009 9:48 PM GMT
NAKED PREY - they're never going to show that, yet it's the fav film of Scorcese and the Coen bros.

Cornel Wilde. A good film I remember

A tremendous chase film with very little dialogue - also the inspiration of Mad Mel's "Apocalypto."

Yes, there were LOADS of women with bare naked human breasts, Dobbo...they took away some poor Englishman and tarred and feathered him...or did they bake him in clay then stick a straw in his gob??
Report Velasquez • November 24, 2009 10:06 PM GMT
Very few women in Lawrence of Arabia, though.
Report Dobbo • November 24, 2009 10:08 PM GMT
I haven't seen it for years and years but I think it did not have any romantic subplot as all films from that era,and this, do.
Report Velasquez • November 24, 2009 10:14 PM GMT
No - no time for that, unless he's really quick.

But -- jolt yer memory, man -- as a particular insult, they hand over one of the Englishmen to the WOMEN, who finish him off with sharp sticks.

Saw it about 6 months ago, and it was even better than I remembered...it's quite similar to Walkabout with Jenny Agutter, in that it reflects on man's relationship to nature, etc. An unexpectedly poetic film.

What about Leave Her to Heaven - you seen that, Dobbo? Cornel Wilde and Gene Tierney...and The Blue Dahlia with Alan Ladd and *sigh* Veronica Lake...?
Report Dobbo • November 24, 2009 10:26 PM GMT
Never much cared for Alan ladd. Veronica lake probably. Was she the one in that film with Joel Mcrea when he pretended to be a hobo? Or was it Jean Arthur? I liked jean Arhur
