Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:10 PM GMT
A plate is not handed around but there is a gift box on the table , £5 .
Report punterfleecer • November 8, 2009 4:11 PM GMT

Report Big Charlie • November 8, 2009 4:12 PM GMT

HEAVY METALLIST REPORTED
Report Bamboo • November 8, 2009 4:13 PM GMT
leave it out,not likely.Who wants to sit on those hard cold pews listening to some old vicar bang on about something he`s not sure about
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:13 PM GMT
No . The collections/gifts etc go to various charities & appeals .
The church gets its upkeep money from a church central fund .
Report punterfleecer • November 8, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
but where does the church central fund get its money from?
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:16 PM GMT
The church is quite wealthy due to a build up of land and property investments over the years , i don't know the full details tbh .
Report punterfleecer • November 8, 2009 4:16 PM GMT
the church is wealthy?

what hypocrites
Report speedypro • November 8, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
None.
Report Big Charlie • November 8, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
Tried to buy a pub once but it was on church owned ground, like the huge Sainsburys opposite. Only allowed to have managers in the pub, no tenants.
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:20 PM GMT
You could look at it that way but the amount of money given away to various good causes from those investments over the years is pretty impressive . A lot of what the church does goes unreported .
Report casemoney • November 8, 2009 4:21 PM GMT

Report punterfleecer • November 8, 2009 4:29 PM GMT
those who only attend at festive-times are hypocrites too, either go every week or not go at all

ok custard-cream, I know it doesnt go unreported, but they way churches invest into properties go against the grain but thats a heavy debate

I'm off to the shop for more bevvy and perhaps buy some food
Report Bamboo • November 8, 2009 4:31 PM GMT

Never been to a church service, except weddings and funerals. I have always believed the concept of God in an organised sense is nonsense.
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:46 PM GMT
Fenway- A 'church ' is not only a building , it can be just 2 people getting together and discussing Jesus .
Report Gene Hackman • November 8, 2009 4:48 PM GMT
I'm an atheist.
But when I have to attend church - weddings/funerals etc - I do come out feeling a bit better.
I think religion is a bit like the moon landings - I love the idea of it ,but I don't believe it.
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 4:49 PM GMT
GH- I was an atheist for 44 yrs .
Report Jimbo747 • November 8, 2009 4:51 PM GMT
Haven't been to the Emiirates for a couple of months now.
Report Fenway • November 8, 2009 4:54 PM GMT
custardcream64 I read the question as asking how many people go to a church service, the key word in my understanding being 'attend'.

I am sure there are many ways in which the word church can be perceived.
Report Astontom • November 8, 2009 4:55 PM GMT
We never went to church,
Just get on with work and sometimes things'll hurt,
But it's hit me since you left us,
And it's so hard not to search.
Report Tony Broke • November 8, 2009 5:10 PM GMT
i used to go but have found church attendance quite difficult, don't hold same beliefs most of the time, either them or myself

Green Day Church On Sunday

(When I say)
If I promise to go to church on Sunday
Will you go with me on Friday night?
If you live with me, I'll die for you
And this compromise :)
Report Coachbuster • November 8, 2009 5:11 PM GMT
Redbag .

This is a gambling site .

Religous folk are not gamblers ;)

I have a good mate who is religous and i know he disaproves of gambling as its in the church's black book ,yet he cant stop himself asking me about how it all works ;) :)
Report paradox and equilibrium • November 8, 2009 5:13 PM GMT
I don't understand people who are non believers all their life then suddenly "find God" like he's a remote control for the TV. Very suspicious of their mental stability tbh.
Report redbag • November 8, 2009 5:14 PM GMT
coach i,ve prayed many a time when punting esp when in the last leg of placepot :)
Report custardcream64 • November 8, 2009 5:15 PM GMT
redbag - it doesn't work like that sadly !
Report Tony Broke • November 8, 2009 5:19 PM GMT
gambling is a difficult one, i dont think the methodists approve of it...doesnt mention it in bible, tho common sense would tell you (or your conscience) that for eg. using all your money on gambling when ur family goes hungry is quite wrong...
Report page-413 • November 8, 2009 5:20 PM GMT
I am a vicar in London
Report Tony Broke • November 8, 2009 5:21 PM GMT
what i truly hate is when the tv evangelists ask for money while they live a life of luxury, if i was in a chuch id want it to be the same as the people who lived out acts of the apostles where the needy were looked after etc.
Whole concept of church building is almost alien anyway
Report Coachbuster • November 8, 2009 5:22 PM GMT

I must admit i don't like the word religion, i prefer to say i have a relationship with God .
Report Fenway • November 8, 2009 5:41 PM GMT
As long as people don't try and push it down my throat, or do dreadful acts in its name, I respect their right to practise it as much as they like.
Report punterfleecer • November 8, 2009 5:45 PM GMT
you didn't make your god up custardcream, you had to be part of a religion

Some good people go to church weekly some bad people go to church weekly, some good people don't go to church and some bad people don't go to church.

The bit that bugs me is the people who slag off the church, don't attend mass, but when their child has to be christened, receive communion and confirmation they are there giving it the big I am,gets on my nerves that.

Personally I attend mass weekly and find my life is more enriched for having a good relationship with God,incidentally I sometimes pop into the church if I am passing during the week, and say a quick prayer, and have been surprised by the amount of men who seem to do the same thing, moreso than women.
Report lfc1971 • January 13, 2015 2:16 PM GMT
Ithink the church building is the most important thing, very nice when they are empty.
