I like preview evenings for two reasons. One, they're brilliant for building excitement and getting the juices flowing. Secondly, I think it's sometimes useful to get a different view point and opinion which doesn't necessarily agree with your own. It just provides a different angle for thought. Now, of course it does remain up to you what you do with what is said with quite often the large majority being utter guff and Chinese whispers but there may be angle or factor you hadn't considered (pace angle, new/old course factor, etc).
But I do agree with the premise of the post. Pick your own FFS. We haven't sat and watched 5 months worth of racing just to back what a guy on a panel has had a shout for. Back your own opinion, your own judgement and don't look back |

Hollywood Bets have just uploaded the video of their preview to Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ckxPprz3lg Unbelievably, the first 20 minutes of the video is nothing, just silence and the Hollywood Bets splash screen. How incompetent is that? Before you answer, bear in mind they've also left in the 10 minute intermission, and it has taken them five days to upload the thing. And the chairman's microphone barely worked. Taking previews in general, they spend far too long on the championship races where we've all made up our minds weeks ago, and not enough on the handicaps, perhaps inevitably. Some have too many panellists, who end up repeating each other. But I like them as part of the build-up to the Festival. |
