The only horse iv backed in the race is invitation only, at 25/1 earlier in the season, wylie has a good record in bumpers with his point to point purchases, and wylie never hesitates to run them in the champion bumper. I was taken with the way he won his point to point easily and he's the only horse in the market that I can say will deffinately run.
Barring Injurys I would be interested in ricci horse fulham road as he thought plenty of him, but may or may not be injured. |

I take the point regarding Augusta Kate, but won't the high profile owners be keen to run at Cheltenham? I thought Shearer had a massive bet on it? If she runs, surely she will be backed off the boards? If only the 16-1 was NRNB!
|
By:
They've surely got to start coming out of the woodwork now, been waiting on half of the market running since start of season haha! Possibly got a lot to do with the weather and abandoned meetings! Lot of value in the market at the moment, problem is it's a guessing game!
|
By:
Exactly right Paterson... Ive been the same! Would guess its quite unusual for so few of the market principals to have run this close to the Festival? At nearly 20/1 the field it looks worth throwing a few speculative darts anyway.
delsie, I am sure Wylie said he would rather keep her to the Mares Bumpers which meant Aintree and Punch? Suppose it will be tempting for them though.... I was actually with them all when they decided to buy her. And they didnt take my hints to let me have a share! |
By:
I had a few on the list months back, 2 of which were Castello Sforza and Fulham Road but have since heard they're injured. Have yet to hear otherwise. And although the horse remains in the betting with several bookmakers, Inspired Poet is unfortunately no longer with us.
|
By:
I would also be tempted to draw a line through any Gigginstown owned horses in the market after last year.
|
By:
CCM - can't see Ant & Dec missing the chance to ponce around in the Cheltenham winners enclosure - and surely Westwood and Shearer will have their punting boots on? I can almost see the Channel 4 interviews now...
|
By:
Yeah I did think that delsie.... Why would anyone not take up the opportunity of having a Cheltenham runner with a chance? But remember seeing Wylie in an interview and making a mental note that it didnt sound likely.

RE Agusta Kate- I know the plan was Aintree for the mares bumper but with the open-ness of the market I wouldn't be surprised to see her turn up at Cheltenham with all the all connection buzz as already eluded too. I would be worried about being a mare however, I know they don't typically run in the Champion Bumper, let alone run well, even with the allowance.
RE Gigginstown- O'Leary has said that Giggs won't have any runners in the bumper so draw a line through any of theirs full stop. There really isn't much in the market that I like at all and it seems as if time is running out for something to come out to stake a claim. Personally think you could do a lot worse than Aurillac. Its won over C&D and was a very good third again over C&D in a decent listed bumper at the Powers meeting. Rebecca Curtis looking like she's finding some form after the her lack of form. Probably not up to the standard of a champion bumper, but atleast its a benchmark in a massively open looking race. At 28s its atleast a nice EW play |
By:
At least Shearer and Westwood have acknowledged they own the horse on Twitter, Ant and Dec haven't mentioned or acknowledged her once. I've yet to see her mentioned in the same breath as Cheltenham. Since her debut, the only thing that's been mentioned is Aintree. Surely that's the only reason she's as big as 16/1. If Cheltenham was even mentioned as an option, surely she would be clear favourite? That's my take on it anyway.
|
By:
Hard to argue with that Paterson. And maybe Wylie knows Invitation Only is an absolute monster so there isnt any point taking him on anyway
|
By:
That's it exactly mate, glad we are on the same wavelength here haha!
|
By:
Anyone know why invitation only is not going at Nass tomorrow ?
|
By:
Didn't RSVP unfortunately !
|
By:
Haven't got a clue who's going to run in the bumper.
It's also bad news for anyone who fancied OUR DUKE who I was keeping an eye on, hes entered up in a few maiden hurdles, so a run will see him inelegible |

Stellar

Fugi Mountain is one of Mullins that is been primed for the bumper.
It is rumoured that Willie has realised that going there with chasing bred types who've done the slogs through deep winter ground is not the way to win this having suffered a barren three years. This fella rattled up a hat trick over summer giving lumps away before being put away for the winter from early September. 25/1 accross the board well worth a tickle. |
By:
I would doubt very much this horse is being primed for the Cheltenham bumper.
|
By:
mincer - would you care to explain why.
|
By:
PP have cut Augusta Kate into 12/1 today. Interesting...
|
By:
invitation only runs next sunday at Leopardstown and may be a single digit price come Monday morning.
|
By:
Invitation only is not entered on sunday.
|
By:
Yes shame. He's shortened with Boyles today but still no sign of him running.
|
By:
proberly the worst bumper crop for a while, not saying there wont be a good horse out of them but nothing impressed me as yet
|
By:
How do you know when barely any of them have even run Tony?!
|
By:
its January catch, my point being not much has impressed me you may be right tho we may have plenty to run?
|
By:
Not a bloody clue and won't take an interest in it until they are coming down the hill
|
By:
still 12/1 the field and not many clues as to likely runners.
listened to patrick mullins back in the autumn talking about the bumper horses in the yard, keen on fulham road admiral chief invitation only castello sforza not heard much about any of them since. patrick keen on village mystic today at leopardstown, but as it's gigginstown owned, got to be a doubtful runner for cheltenham. |
By:
So Willie Mullins hasn't given up hope of persuading Gigginstown to let him run Admiral Chief in the Bumper. Bit of a quandary - do I take a punt at 20-1 that WPM gets his way and it runs - or take Giggy's claim that they won't run anything in the race at face value. If what the stable say about this one is true and Mullins has banged in a few winners, he'll go off a shortish price
Take THEM at face value? What am I saying!!!? |
By:
It's tricky delsie, not sure when the first bookmakers go NRNB in the bumper. WM had a massive glint in his eye when GOB pressed him about Admiral Chief. I think it is clear he is very much at the top of their pecking order.
Not sure the reputation of a bit of a graveyard for horses is overplayed, but O'Leary looks the sort of bloke who will cut off his nose to spite his face |
By:
Erm yep bit of a head scratcher..tho theres a few quid on here looking to be matched.
No matter who i was..youd have to take trainers enthusiasm for race..doubt hed want to upset them by making a balls of it. Think will have a small dabble on AC and take the hit if it dont run |
By:
Just had a speculative €10 ew on battleford for the bumper at 33/1 straight after the race, he won quite well for me, and if the giggi horses don't turn up, I think he will be in with a decent ew shout
|
By:
He was doing nice work at home & I'd say he'll go @CheltenhamRaces " @WillieMullinsNH Battleford 4/6fav @punchestownrace
That's the hard part out of the way and least he will line up at cheltenham |
By:
We are aiming Augusta Kate @Sandownpark but she could yet go @CheltenhamRaces It depends how race shapes up" @WillieMullinsNH

Have backed Criq Rock for this. Ascot form was franked on Friday by Bags Groove, and I remember reading an article by King suggesting they could barely pull him up after his win at Bangor. The form may not amount to much but seems to be about one of the best of the UK entries, and like last year it might be possible that the Irish runners are overhyped.
|
By:
Some Neck.. well talked up before his debut run where he ran well if slightly green and also looks like he ran into a good animal aswell in the shape of Gurteen who had previously chased home Min over hurdles.
He'd be my stab at this moment in time! |
By:
Some neck a little dissapoint in there and another one to cross of your list for the bumper. Lucky pass had his form franked again but he's an unlikely runner at this stage. May be one for nrnb with Admiral chief.
Pretty happy with my 2 picks battleford and invitation only. Suprised bet365 still gob25/1 for the former. He fell at the last in his ptp when lucky pass was just getting the better of him. Obviously that being over 3 miles I'd take that as pretty nice form, then he went on to win his bumper. |
By:
i'm with criq rock here like corporal. King has only ran 2 in the bumper since 2006 and one was Yanworth suggesting he doesn't bother unless he has a nice one. He gave bags Groove 7lbs when they met and given how nothing has set the division alight, it may be something like the best we've seen so far without the market reflecting it. In bumper horses I want to see gears and fight rather than them bolting up on the bridle and he's shown the lot so far. King has earmarked the Newbury bumper next week days after the 33s was nibbled which is interesting.

Still happy with a invitation Only scooby?! Getting a bit worried we haven't seen him myself!
