The big beasts of the Cruiserweight Divison finally meet tonight for all the Major belts and the WBSS title in a mouth-watering clash in Moscow. Highly rated, former Olympian Oleksander Usyk, 14-0-0 takes on unbeaten powerhouse Murat Gassiev, 26-0-0 in the long awaited Final, originally scheduled for Dubai in May. Will the quicker, flashier southpaw from Ukraine be able to outfox the relentless, hard-hitting and younger Gassiev? Whatever the result, if their respective semi-finals are anything to go by, a fantastic fight is in prospect here. A few months ago Usyk would have been definite favourite for this one, but since the fight was moved to Moscow, and in view of his impressive destruction of Younier Dorticos in his last fight, Gassiev has become a slight favourite. Personally I think that Usyk is the better of the two boxers and should have too much speed, skill and movement for Gassiev. His footwork and ability to work angles and throw effective combinations, while managing to stay out of range, should see Usyk coming out on top. Obviously, the market disagrees with me slightly. There are various reasons for this. Firstly, Gassiev is as strong as an ox and carries tremendous power in both hands. He throws some great combos, particularly when he gets inside the guard. He has a great chin and a particularly powerful left hook, which he loves to double up, on finishing off several opponents with the uppercut. There have been some doubts raised about Usyk's preparation having sacked his trainer and taking on his cut man instead. Also the fact that the fight is in Gassiev's home country : Moscow is always the kind of place that raises doubts about impartiality and all sorts of rumours of skullduggery abound. However, as the fight is taking place under the auspices of the WBSS, and previous fights seem to have been free of any obvious interference, I think that these fears can be laid to rest. I don't believe that Moscow will be any more impartial than London, Manchester or Glasgow, to be honest. And, I believe that the better fighter will be victoroius on the night. It's Usyk for me, after an extremely hard fought and exciting contest, but Gassiev is as dangerous as they come. Great fight in store, looking forward to it.
Fedor Chudinov in a hard fight against Mohammedi for France. Not particularly impressive from Chudinov, interesting to see how the judges see it. Chudinov looks tired and flat-footed.

Previously unbeaten light middleweight Ponomarev was beaten in a split decision earlier, if that's any guide to the impartaility (or otherwise) of the Russian judging. Although Vorobiev is also Russian.

As you say I can't see the fact that it's in Russia being much of an issue given it's under WBSS who will not want any dodgy decision to affect the credibility and market value of their next two tournaments. Particularly since the middleweight final is beginning to get a bit farcical.
I can see it being close though and people being split on the winner.
I'm surprised Usyk lost favoritism. Though the 5/2 the bookies put up on Gassiev even pre change of location was ridiculously under rating him.

This one is in English, but my anti virus doesn't like it and Duke Mckenzie is on it. Still Duke's is always good for a laugh, whether he knows it or not.

Superb display from Usyk. Never seen such a big cruiser with such output and so nimble footwork.
Gassiev looked clueless from the first bell. Heavy handed but ploddish footwork and no head movement.
Bellew gives Usyk a much harder test and may just fancy it with the latter looking like he lacks top class power.
Can see Usyk chasing the big dollars at heavyweight and he should give the top big boys real headaches and very possibly beat them all if lasting 12 rounds.
