Chris Eubank Jr to fight Renold Quinlan on first ever ITV Box Office event

CHRIS EUBANK JR will headline ITV's first move in to pay-per-view boxing when he faces Renold Quinlan in 2017.

Eubank Jr, who is managed by his father and former world champion Chris, is the British middleweight and a former WBA interim champion.

But he will now face Quinlan for the IBO world super-middleweight title on the brand new channel ITV Box Office early in 2017, although the exact date has yet to be confirmed.

“I feel blessed to have this opportunity to work with ITV after they first showcased my father 26 years ago," Eubank Jr said.

"And I intend to deliver more of what my father did: speed, power, accuracy, showmanship and the will to fight and beat the best of the best.

"Maybe even with a little bit more swagger!”

Eubank Jr's biggest fight to date came when he faced fellow Brit Bill Joe Saunders, now WBO world champion, beat him by a split decision for the European, British and Commonwealth titles in 2014.

Quinlan meanwhile only has 12 professional fights under his belt so far in comparison with Eubank Jr's 24, but is ready to make the step up.

“I’m not scared of anyone, I’ll take on the best when ever and where ever," Quinlan said.

"I don’t want to just be Australia’s greatest boxer.

"I want to be the world’s best.

"I’ll travel across the world to fight anyone who puts their hand up to fight me.

"I’ve been waiting my whole life to prove I’ve got what it takes, this is my time and Eubank Jnr is going to know this.”

Looks like anyone half decent just bins the belt as soon as

Surely ITV can't be thinking of £16.95 type prices

Seriously will be amazed if it is more than a fiver

Whoever approved this at ITV Sport needs to be fired Crazy.

The sad thing is when this bombs ITV will think boxing is toxic again and not touch it.

Eubank's are something else, you have to go some way to have both Hearn and Warren against you, but they have managed it. Just completely delusional about Eubank Jr's worth. I hope ITV haven't guaranteed any purses.

Won't surprise me given all we know about the Eubanks. Hearn has basically said Sr thinks Jr is bigger than Joshua and should be headlining his own ppv's and owning the show (controlling it so they spend f all on the undercard etc.). He also hinted recently they want huge money for nothing fights.

This might be the waking up call that they need when this flops huge, but I wouldn't count on it tbh. Eubank Jr must have thrown away literally several million in purses through their delusions.

The undercard is free to air on ITV4

This fight will be free. Theyll be promo codes in papers etc to launch the channel
Report Shrewd_dude December 17, 2016 9:50 PM GMT
Crazy decision. You would have to think that the amount made by PPV sales would be about the same as lost in advertising from restricting viewers to people who will pay for a non world title fight.

Don't expect anyone's got an hour to sit through it but just click on any random 2 minutes and the level of nuttiness is hilarious

'He would wreck Golovkin' so he's fighting ... erm ... Renold Quinlan ...
Report Topboys January 4, 2017 1:39 AM GMT
Actually concerning how deluded the Eubanks are.
Report n88uk January 5, 2017 3:47 PM GMT
Supposedly this is going to be £20 while the undercard is free to air. Doesn't even make sense surely. Who the f is going to pay £20 for a Eubank Jr vs a guy nobody has even heard of. I don't even think they will be successful in conning much of the public over the "world title" aspect, I mean this is only a month away and there's no buzz, has anyone heard of any tickets going on sale? Guess it doesn't matter as it's in a leisure centre anyway.

It literally defies belief that someone at ITV Sport actually signed this off. They must literally know nothing about boxing or what they are getting into.
Report n88uk January 5, 2017 3:48 PM GMT
Talking of IFL. Hearn tells a funny story in his one of how well he invited Eubank Sr to Barry Hearn's 60th birthday party, Eubank Sr wanted an appearance fee, and he was like are you having a laugh, Eubank Sr said can you pay for my driver, and Hearn buckled just because he wanted his dad's birthday party to be perfect. Then apparently at the end of the night Eubank Sr was desperate for Eddie to pay him his £250 on the spot, and so he did. Says he's never forgotten it.

Quinlan, who said his purse is $55,000 (£44,000), wants Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn to step in and rescue the bout.

If he can’t, the Australian is prepared to pull out.

He added: "There are no flights booked for me.

"They wanted me to come over early to build the fight up but I said that’s their job.

"My wife is pregnant and could go into labour at any time.

"It would be good if Eddie Hearn could promote the fight and I'd love to fight on the Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko undercard.

"But I'm thinking of walking away and getting a big fight."

Undercard is actually better than I thought it would be. Given what was said about Eubanks not wanting to spend anything on the undercard vs GGG, I assumed the undercard would be absolutely terrible. It's not amazing, but it wouldn't actually be the worst card ever if it had a proper main event was on regular ITV.

To be fair to Eubank Jr, he is a very good fighter. Maybe not as good as he thinks, but still worth watching. Although I wouldn't pay to see him against anyone other than GGG. The sooner he gives his old man the Heave-Ho, the better for him.

I would bet him v GGG if same odds as last time about 6/1 was it?

I think he is a good fighter also and can defo go far so hopefully after this fight he takes a big step up
