for old times sake henry .. its a fair question I would like to have a look at the pre-race form and see if someone (other than Jim) might have spotted it as a likely winner (like me ) |
By:
Expecting TINS to enter the room Dick Tracey style and prevent further questioning by you .....and perhaps place you under arrest for unfair expectations of proof.....
Each new customer to VB is....hmmm let me calculate $150.00 per week x 52 = $7 800.00 per annum......lets see....1000 customers......seven million eight hundred thousand dollars ($7 800 000) per anuum..... Plenty in the kitty to get chief Inspector TINS on the pay roll.... VB is in the numbers games ...and I doubt if it is dividends and odds |
By:
Actually very reminiscent of George Gray ....8+ selections in a race and half page adds in the Sportsman spruiking for readers to share in his wisdom for $200 bucks
Most unlikely many will remember George Gray advertisements in the Sportsman.....my money is on that Thebas remembers.... |
By:
haha yes I do henry
I think was he the one that had you parlaying up 3 placegetters or something ? |
By:
No the 3 place getter guy/gal/spruiker was another...
GG had half page adds listing every race previously couple week and and every winner.....no less than half page ads in the sportsman....so something was working well..... GG selections literally....8+ selections each race... |
By:
GG had half page adds
sounds like The Sportsman were probably the ones making all the money then |

What is winning on horses all about?
Since doing my fitness spread sheets, a much clearer picture if forming on how to win on the punt. Maybe punting is all just one big numbers game + fitness + the right strategies to return a profit? What if punters have been barking up the wrong tree for all their punting life with so much emphasis on endless hours of form study, videos, speed maps, trials, tips, media? What if showing a profit is only a numbers game with the right strategies applied on fitter horses? How much better life would be for punters be if they spent more time on their betting strategies; how to return a profit, than burning the candle on hours upon hours of form study which does not include fitness? Numbers + Fitness + Strategies = $$$$$ and a easier and more profitable punting life. More later. |

I perhaps more than anyone else share your passion for identifying horses fitness levels simply to justify the many decades of watching through binoculars the movement of the horse in a parade ring...and at time I used to video the parade ring and take home to analyse... However imo days it is a different world ...and Thebas and I brushed on this subject recently ....that relegates a horses fitness to a less important position... This subject is : Interested parties (jocks/trainers/ owners etc) INTENT... Once upon a time horses (interested parties) raced for the reward of prize money.....this imo is no longer the case...there are others avenues of reward available...( evidence by all the integrity committees etc) Inherent in your statement "Maybe punting is all just one big numbers game + fitness + the right strategies to return a profit?" is a slow (overdue) but still good you acknowledge...that fitness is no longer the stand alone consideration in trying to get a winning day... There is certainly nothing new in your statement : "Numbers + Fitness + Strategies = $$$$$ and a easier and more profitable punting life" However even that statement these days is very flawed for reasons I would rave about except I would be seen as raving (perhaps).... A simple illustration....there is no strategy ...no strategy that will turn any of yours or mine...."fittest in the race horse" that is unplaced...and we both have many of them...there is no strategy that will turn that race into a winning race.... On outward looks ...I thought Charlie Boy looked the fittest....no strategy wrapped around that observation was going to profit me... I have my contemporary thoughts which I have shared elsewhere....which is about identifying interested parties INTENT GL VB |

Good steady day at Pakenham today, Race 1, with (4) 98% two % clear of rest of other runners and I got $3.10 fixed, went to $3.20
and then our Fitness spread sheet hit the bookies; really hard, massive plunge successful. $3.20 - $3.00 - $2.80 - $2.60 - $2.40 - $2.20 and wins of course. Next. I simply write off bad races now with many on 96% and 95%, you just give them a miss. Nearly all of my 97%’s ran a place and couple really stiff beaten by a nose and necks, I only miss on one race. Race 9 (How exciting is this?) Your truly looks like a 2 horse race 1-2, but hang on; the (5) He’s A Magician joins 1-2 on 97% on top, at good odds. Standing out on the lawn with about 50 others punters waiting for the race to start, I said to myself this could be exciting! There off; 1-2 up on the pace and He’s a Magician long last, I’m not worried. I was watching him in the green silks, under wraps and turns for home last; out wide but his 97% fitness starts to kick in. Gets balanced and starts to fly, makes up 15 lengths over the last 300 metres and wins running away, wahooo! So we have yours truly “Let’s out half a dozen roars, go the 5” You could of heard me at Flinders Street station! It reminded me of Audrey Hepburn where she is made a lady and goes to the races in My Fair Lady, all is cool until Dover starts to make his run, she yells “Go Dover, move your blooming arse!” So the 5 wins running away, and I start doing my victory dance around the lawn , gees if it’s good enough for Adam Goodes, it’s good enough for this little duck, I sang to myself. Pays $14 Win $4 place and Trifecta 5-1-7 easy $303. Glad there was no Race 10 and I was too hyped up. Numbers + Fitness + Strategies = $$$ and it's free to Betfair members! Jim |

a top result there Jim
I like to look backwards from these results to post-assess the race horse was first up at Pakenham (I always thought that would be the best scenario for parade ring views especially if at value) horse was first up over 1400 (usually attempted by trainer if fit enough & well) in races where most runners are in the middle of campaigns & pretty hard and all within 1% or 2% fitness variance in Jim's eyes ... I like henry's scenario of 'trainer intent' but with Jim he might have unearthed the most lucrative area for his punting observational skills .. the fresh horse ... now the USA is a completely different kettle of fish of course ... but Jim will work it out no doubt |

Thanks Guys.
A FREE harness meeting is coming up soon, let's know who is interested and I will add to my network. Current members need not notify. Fitness spread sheets direct to you phone of every horse, every race. These are great meetings on a barmy summers night. Cheers Jim |

I wasn't present at Pakenham and I don't subscribe to the service.
I'm limited to Saturday's and Sundays (if the venue suits me) |
By:
didn't think it needed to be said, Henry...... obviously, you're a mankini man

I'm happy for anyone that backs a winner, TB.
I gotta say I've had conflicting views on Jim's service... |
By:
Sorry about the lack of continuity. I'm preparing dinner....Letsy's home soon.

all good ... a service is one thing ... some fun here and post race back assessments are another of far more interest/entertainment to me

Good evening Members.
It’s a very sad day for punters, once on Monday when looks like Vic racing is shut out by Sky and also the demise of the product by Racing.com as in doing just 9 races at Bendigo. It was shocking! If this is the standard that 7 are going to follow, like camels to the water with Racing.com; heaven help us punters. What a terrible coverage today for punters, yes punters, those that want to get a winner and not hear again and again, excuses and rubbish from stewards and officials about drugs and drugs and more drugs and punters getting no racing support to get rid of the bad guys, it just never ends, and we were left with horses going to barrier, not in the mount yards; amazing! It will be interesting to see the format adopted by 7, will we see all the old faces back from TVN? Will they take a punt and go with a new type of format like the excellent coverage in Hong Kong; or we see silly stuff with Simon Marshall and Camilla running around the mounting yards with their clip boards, pretending they know what they are talking about and giving every horse in the race a chance; and we don’t get a good look at the runners. Yes, it sure will be interesting and punters need all the help they can get, because decades of old information is now not applicable, it's old hat to the modern software punters. I think punters in the spring need Fitness % Spread Sheets on tele, in the Sydney carnival and then the Melbourne Cup carnival. More later. Mr James Conway (Yes) |
By:
Mounting yard coverage was so annoying ..when trying to look through overlay prices and reduced screens....IMO a pointless exercise if not all could be considered with equal exposure,,,,,gave it up years ago,,,,
|
By:
They have moved on to side prices, hope that continues, but you never know with the powers to be???
|
By:
depressing that they can't even plan to video "record" each and every horse pre-race at the time they do the walk around parade in the ring
they could then replay that video as they then talk their nonsense about who ran where at their last start (and even pause the video if they need to jibber on more about where the horse finished at its 2nd last start) but no .. they try to run the video and chitter chatter nonsense side by side ... and their time management of this jibber is so poorly organised ... that many horse are now galloping off in the distance and you get a brief a rump only shot (or they just give up drop out the last 3 horses altogether from viewing) poor video control management ... poor time management ... nonsense based chitter chatter makes a worthwhile exercise of "seeing" a horse pre-race go right down the drain ... management are the problem in not pulling up their staff to ensure that what they are "trying to do" actually gets done but why would CH7 be any better at this ... I do not know to be honest |
By:
makes a worthwhile exercise of "seeing" a horse pre-race go right down the drain
Well described drain analogy ...hence gave it up years ago,,,, |
By:
Actually simple exercise of the US livestreaming much preferred...(would like more close ups but at least horse flesh is followed )
|
By:
agree henry .. I used to do it on track always ... but never to the detailed extent that Jim is doing
mainly I was looking for a nice tucked up appearance (like a greyhound) and how 'composed' the horse was jim has taken this to another level and where percentages are very tight I enjoy his post race results as I like to look back at the horse in question I cannot remember one where Jim had it on top at say 98% where its form and other factors didn';t point you to that horse anyway but its novel and interesting .. but its best if Jim is at the track I guess (which limits you to one meeting and maybe only 5 of the 8 races even being suitable) (I like to look at 4 meetings x 8 races and hand pick maybe 5 out of the 32 where I might hope to find an advantage) each to their own .. but interesting |
By:
with the USA I found that almost ALL horses had strong fitness levels in what I loosely interpret as Jim's understanding
now if all their horses are "fit" (and remembering that they almost always run their races from the front end and its 'last man standing' by the time the finish line arrives) then other factors must come into play but yes they do give a better look at the horses in the US as they parade and 'walk' to the gates (unlike Oz where they like to get a 'little' stretch out/gallop under the belt before entering the stalls) |
By:
mainly I was looking for a nice tucked up appearance (like a greyhound) and how 'composed' the horse was
In latter years I have learnt the value of the "hidden" tendons....less spring in the joints..(what appears to be the knee but isnt) and the hoof area.....more spring...less "push".....simply stated "straight leg" appearance ..which btw was Srikandi observation while Charlie Boy had that tucked up appearance but more spring..... Watched u tube on it once ...vet dissected race horse and explained..posted it ages ago ...will try and find copy Further explain....less push ....energy absorbed into body.....straighter leg joints...more energy pushes off ground..... |
