I think this is the fourth time in 4 years we have drawn a match with nine men down... Cardiff, twice v saffers in 2009/10 and yesterday. Good we got away with it, but it was a very disappointing series for england, even with the loss of kp and swann i thought we would win easily, it turns out we were lucky not to lose. Good for test cricket though, congratulations and commiserations to NZ.

the ICC have reported suspicious betting patterns on the upcoming ashes tour , apparently someone in Sydney placed $20 on Australia to win the ashes
|
By:
A for effort, imo

No Mitchell Johnson. That is a shame, he is a real crowd favourite. Anyone know what happened to cummins? Is he injured still? Will be interesting to see howmthe likes of bird and pattinson do. I quite fancy Warner for top aus runscorer.
|
By:
will be interesting to see how Warner does
Ues, very interesting. Will he even play, would be very dodgy to risk him in the first two tests. |
By:
Don't think he will play, going to be difficult to force his way into that strong batting lineup after not playing the warmup games.
|
By:
looking to back Australia not to win a test! anyone know were i can find a market
|
By:
Lots of interesting odds here,,
http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/ashes Back england 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 (only 10-1 with one bookie) |
By:
Less than 12 hours to go. Not good times for aussie sport recently so hopefully you can get some respect back by losing by less than 2 tests.
May the best team win. |
By:
Should be good.

There is no greater day on the world cricket calendar than the first day of the first Ashes test imo.

Agreed. I cannot wait. Knocks the world cup final into a cocked hat.

BREAKING NEWS : AUSSIES ARE GOING TO GET BATTERED
|
By:
Think they'll go a lot better than they would have a month ago but not expecting any miracles and just hoping for the best, still think some of the second XI should be in the first XI and would make the Test team a fair bit stronger.

Judging by this thread, I think England will win 12-0. Although I can't imagine anybody would be silly enough to offer a market on it since it is pretty much a sure thing. |

You have to laugh at the poms thinking they are one of the greatest teams of all time. Not even remotely close to most Aussie teams in the last 20 years, not to mention others. I guess when as a nation you don't know what it is like to be a true sporting force, you tend not to understand what it takes to be "great"
|
By:
My tip before being exposed to that though, is 1-2 Aus. Australia clearly have a bowling advantage and will be dangerous against a nation that typically isn't up for the big moment, and certainly has no idea what it is like to be expected to win.
Australia on the other hand know what it takes, and all they need is a sniff. Is amazing what a little confidence does and if they can get off to a good start, then the game is well and truly on. England have a couple of decent players, but really nothing special. Get through them and they don't have much else. Aus have the talent there but haven't gelled as a team for quite some time. Certainly not world beaters, but very capable players. Lehmann being put in charge will have them charged for this contest. Really not sure why he didn't get the gig a long time ago. I think they come out a different team, revitalised, enthusiastic. A quick wicket, or a couple of balls out of the middle, and this team can certainly turn it on against the poms who will suddenly be reminded of decades of hardship. Will be hard to get those memories out of their heads. Childhoods filled with nightmares about their beloved cricket team being embarrassed constantly by Australia. The mind is an amazing thing, and that is where this game is up for grabs. Lehmann at the helm, and we know the players will want to play under him. I expect Australia to be trading sub 1.50 by day 3 of game 1. From there, anything can happen. |

Well for the couple of English players anyway. Crack a couple of them though, and that is enough... |

I seriously doubt we have the talent cowan, warner, hughes please they never should havepissed hussey off that much that in the end he told them to stick it up their arsse. After the amount of times he bailed us out of the shiit he would he would have been invaluable.
