Has anyone, or any team, that ever uttered those words before a BIG event, gone on to win the event?
It is usually said by the underdog in an event.
Somehow it is believed that if they adopt the attitude that there is nothing to lose….. it will free them from the pressure of winning, open them up, compete like you don’t care???
When conversely the pressure of winning (competing) is the main driver of performance, and to abandon it is fraught with danger.
It goes contrary to the years of training they have put in to get close to the top of their field, all that driven effort to arrive at the point they are, and then they should suddenly believe that it doesn’t matter if you lose ......because you had nothing to lose.
Well dummy you have a match to lose, a game to lose, a race to lose, the years of effort that you have put in to arrive at this point and to suddenly try and tell yourself that it doesn’t matter anyway is stupid.
YOU HAVE A LOT TO LOSE…………
AND THAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO WIN.
Pressure is the Champions friend ….they embrace it, they do not abandon it .
Yes Thebas.....I think they say it sometimes..... to try and transfer all the pressure onto their opponent. "There is no pressure on me to win, because i'm not expected to win....... my opponent is under pressure to beat me."
Meanwhile their opponent is sitting back and saying ....."Pressure....I eat pressure for breakfast .....that's what got me to where i am."
