Another year of Federal Politics is upon us.
Another year of Labor failures and Gillard-Brown governance, as the nation yearns for change.
Whether its a carbon dioxide tax or pokies reform, the nation asks itself, "did we vote for this?".
The answer is clearly, no.
What we have is one of the most incompetent government's in living memory.
A broken spirited Labor Government led by a weak leader who is falling for a Green policy agenda.
And change is coming. Tony Abbott and the Coalition continue to go from strength to strength.
I'm confident 2012 will be a bright year for the Coalition team.
And I'm sure we'll see Australian's embracing the future positive agenda of an Abbott Government.
2012 will see the introduction of a Carbon Tax.
One of the most flawed pieces of policy this country has and will ever see.
It's up their with the Latham-Gillard "Medicare Gold" policy of the 2004 election campaign.
But this Carbon Tax policy will hurt the nation unlike any other policy.
It will hurt jobs, families, the economy and it will crunch what we treasure most in this country.....our way of life.

Polls show Labor has gained 7% on Liberals since the introduction of the Carbon Tax. And guess what.? Its not the end of the world as Abbott said. Very generous tax concessions for 75% of Australians is why.? No Tax for the 1st 18K. 15cents in the dollars after that, christmans in July.

Abbott and Hockey have already promised to not replace 12000 federal public servants if they win - mind you Labor is cutting around 4000 by stealth this year
They've also already said they'll be pushing more federal work onto state public services - yes those same ones getting slashed now. It's a mess. Not that there isn't a lot of duplication that should be cleaned up - just do it transparently

Should it matter, I'd say no IF he didn't come out and say it didn't happen after initially saying he didn't recall. Now it'll hang around a bit longer when he could've killed it off very quickly by just saying talking about what did or didn't happened in our student politics days might seem like fun but really is pretty irrelevant
Of more concern for Abbott is Newman going so hard in Queensland, O'Farrell's massive cuts to education etc in NSW and Ballieu's doing nothing except cut stuff in Victoria

Labor - Rudd had so many great idea's but abbot just said no to everything, how can you judge labor when abbot simple plan is to throw democracy out the door and say no to every single idea?
If he does win, his un democratic approach i fear will be a new way of politics and you may see labor take the same approach , both sides saying no to everything.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is investigating former resources minister Ian Macdonald's decision to open up the Bylong Valley, in central NSW, to coal mining.
The decision, and Mr Macdonald's rigging of the tender process, profited Mr Obeid and his family to the tune of $100 million, ICAC has heard.

The Federal childcare minister intends to wed her boyfriend of two years, Rupert Murdoch's "golden boy" David Penberthy, after the high profile journalist popped the question.
Penberthy, who is editor in chief of several Murdoch websites including news.com.au, told PS he had been planning the proposal for several months, choosing to pop the question while sitting atop a picnic blanket at sunset on Aldinga Beach, south of their hometown, Adelaide.
"We are both very happy and very excited. I had been planning it for a while, I chose the ring and she loved it. It all went very well," Penberthy said.

The wedding is expected to take place in Adelaide.

However I think it is time for new leader for Liberal party. Its not that I think Abbott would not make a good PM or his policies are that bad but I think he is a poor strategist & will never be popular enough for an easy Liberal victory. Things like his stance on removing carbon tax & his constant negativity are doing him no good. Carbon tax is like GST & once it is in no point removing. Some of his choices in last 6 months have been poor from a political point of view.

This person, Peter Slipper, was a man the LNP themselves had endorsed in the Fisher electorate for decades. And he was a man to be ruined by someone who couldn’t have been a more trusted ally; who had pride of place at Slipper’s wedding — though he turned up 20 minutes late, delaying the service and leaving the bride in tears.
The man referred to is Tony Abbott — a man without a shred of honour.
Tony Abbott thought enough of the character of Peter Slipper to celebrate his wedding — yet later scathingly denounced him to the nation in Parliament as a misogynist.
A few of Peter Slipper’s private text messages suggest, at times, he may have had less than admirable thoughts — but who are we to judge? If someone was to trawl through all your own most private words — would you feel exposed? Would you have said things you now regret? These thoughts of Mr Slipper’s ‒ these very human thoughts ‒ do not make him any less competent, or sane, or good, or worthy.
Regrettably, Peter Slipper may very well have been the best Speaker to sit in the Speaker’s chair since Federation — yet he was denied much time to shine by the arrogant, power-hungry narcissism of a bosom friend he’d held for decades.
This kind of personal betrayal is almost unimaginable in a prospective prime minister.
Tony Abbott had the audacity – the temerity – to stand up in Federal Parliament to denounce, discredit and debase his very own former bosom buddy — but if Tony Abbott’s great friend is a terrible misogynist ‒ a hater of women ‒ then what does this say about Tony Abbott?
It says that Tony Abbott is a hypocrite.
It reminds us that this is the same person who was arrested and convicted for vandalism at university; who punched a wall on either side of a woman’s head in a fit of rage after being beaten by her in a student election; who found himself in court for sexual assault after allegedly groping a woman; and who has been, right throughout his life, a bully and a bigot. A man who has been reported to have a tendency to respond first with punches, not words; who flattened a man’s nose and ended up in Glebe Court on assault charges; a man whose greatest love is fighting.
Put simply, Abbott has no right to slander others on charges of character — because he is of base character himself.

Abbott brazenly calls for an inquiry into the 20 year old AWU issue – an issue no one in the Coalition or the mainstream media has been able to produce a shred of evidence about that tarnishes the Prime Minister – but when an inquiry is suggested about getting to the bottom of the Ashby/Slipper affair – an issue in which a Federal Court Judge has brought down damning findings against Ashby and senior members of the LNP, including a former Federal Liberal cabinet minister – he runs back home to mother England and calls it all a witch hunt!

When asked about when he personally knew about the Ashby allegations, Tony Abbott, as barefaced as ever, looked Australia in the eye and said:
“”I had no specific knowledge of this until I read the newspapers on Saturday morning.”*

Now, thanks to the brilliant analysis of IT expert Kieran Cummings, we can be quite sure that Abbott has lied about this — as he has shamelessly lied about so many other things.
Kieran has proven, by analyzing the meta-data from Abbott’s APH email stream, that Abbott’s Ashby media release was, in fact, written the night before Ashby submitted his court action.
So, Abbott knew all about the Ashby conspiracy — to lay low his old mate.

His denial of specific knowledge sank further into implausibility when Opposition Chief Whip Warren Entsch confirmed today that he rang Abbott the night before Ashby submitted his claim against Slipper. And how did Entsch know Ashby’s case was about to break in the press? Well, IA can reveal that we have discovered through our investigations that Entsch and Mal Brough are very old friends — much like Slipper and Abbott. But, more specifically, Entsch’s staffer Suzanne Newbury’s husband, James Newbury, is none other than Christopher Pyne’s chief of staff.
Christopher Pyne is the one who, apparently, can’t recall sending emails requesting Ashby’s phone number and personal email — but after being shown by a journalist the email he actually did send James Ashby, he changed his story, agreed it happened and then said “so what?”. Then, when it was shown that Pyne has met Ashby on numerous occasions in the lead up to Ashby launching his spurious claim against Slipper — Pyne denied any knowledge of the pending action.
Liar.
It is now becoming crystal clear that the Ashby conspiracy ran right through the senior ranks of the Liberal Party.
We also have Julie Bishop, someone who says she doesn’t know or care who she is talking to on the other end of a phone — remember Ralph Blewitt? She also can’t recall James Ashby calling her office for “advice” — even though it was allegedly given by her own chief of staff, Murray Hansen. That’s the same Murray Hansen who was caught out plagiarising for Bishop back in 2008.
Then there’s Jolly Joe Hockey — an inexplicable favourite amongst the morning television gaggle. Jolly Joe quietly travelled to the Sunshine Coast in April – that is, just before Ashby filed his court documents – to meet Mal Brough and Clive Palmer at a Coolum steakhouse. Joe says they discussed Peter Slipper — but not James Ashby. Of course not! Now, don’t expect big Joe to remember meeting James Ashby ‒ if it turns out he did ‒ as he has up to eleventy things on his mind at any one time. And if you persist in asking him questions about this affair — well, you can just “go to hell”!

The facts of the budget show that the current government's budgetary footprint on the economy is small, running at the lowest level in 35 years, writes Stephen Koukoulas.
The Federal election is now less than a year away. The budget surplus, government spending, tax and debt are likely to feature prominently in each side's efforts to convince voters that they are the better economic manager.
The Liberal Party and many conservative commentators suggest that the size of government in Australia under the current Labor Government is too big.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has said the current government "is addicted to taxes" and that it "is spending like a drunken sailor… mortgaging our future". In a similar vein, shadow treasurer Joe Hockey says "Labor has shown it is incapable of cutting spending".
Either these comments are deliberate mis-truths or reflect the lack of understanding of budget policy from people who, within a year, could well be prime minister and treasurer.
The facts of the budget show that the current government's budgetary footprint on the economy is small, running at the lowest level in 35 years. The current small government is made up of both low tax receipts and record cuts in government spending.
The tax to GDP ratio has averaged 21.1 per cent of GDP in the five years of the current Labor Government. The highest tax to GDP ratio in those years is for 2012-13 where it will reach 22.2 per cent. Under the Liberal Party-lead Coalition, the Howard government tax to GDP ratio averaged 23.4 per cent over its 12 years in office and never once did it fall below 22.2 per cent. In other words, the tax to GDP ratio under the current government is at a level last seen during the Keating government in the early 1990s and before that, we have to go back to the 1970s to see such a low-taxing government.
The difference between the average tax level of the previous Coalition government and the current Labor Government is 2.3 per cent of GDP. In today's dollar terms, that is around $35 billion per annum in less tax collected by the Labor Government compared with the previous Coalition government. That $35 billion lower tax take is equivalent to around $4,000 per year for every household in Australia.
The budget papers also show that the Howard government was the highest taxing government in Australia's history. In 2004-05 and 2005-06, the tax to GDP ratio reached a record high 24.2 per cent. In addition, there have been only seven occasions where the tax to GDP ratio has been in excess of 23.5 per cent of GDP and all seven were under the Howard government.
In a similar vein, in the last 30 years, there have been 10 occasions when the tax to GDP ratio has been below 22.0 per cent of GDP and all 10 were under a Labor Government. To put simply, the Howard government was a high taxer, while the current Labor Government is a lower taxer.
In terms of government spending, there have been only five years in the four decades leading up to 2012-13 when real government spending was cut in real terms. None of those cuts were delivered by a Coalition government. All five times that there has been a cut in real government spending have been when a Labor government has framed and delivered the budget. There were three years during the Hawke government in the late 1980s where government spending was cut in real terms and there have been two occasions in the current Labor administration where such cuts have occurred.
In what should be an embarrassing fact for Mr Hockey, 2012-13 will see real government spending fall 4.4 per cent, the biggest cut ever recorded. This cut will see the government spending to GDP ratio fall to 23.8 per cent, having previously been ramped up to successfully counter the shock from the global financial crisis. This level of spending is 0.4 per cent of GDP below the average government spending level of the Howard government. In today's dollar terms, the 0.4 per cent of GDP amounts to around $6 billion.

In what should be an embarrassing fact for Mr Hockey, 2012-13 will see real government spending fall 4.4 per cent, the biggest cut ever recorded.
So the facts are that the Gov't is actually spending and cutting within it's means.
More so than any Liberal Gov't ever in our history.

The Federal election is now less than a year away. The budget surplus, government spending, tax and debt are likely to feature prominently in each side's efforts to convince voters that they are the better economic manager.
The Liberal Party and many conservative commentators suggest that the size of government in Australia under the current Labor Government is too big.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has said the current government "is addicted to taxes" and that it "is spending like a drunken sailor… mortgaging our future". In a similar vein, shadow treasurer Joe Hockey says "Labor has shown it is incapable of cutting spending".
Either these comments are deliberate mis-truths or reflect the lack of understanding of budget policy from people who, within a year, could well be prime minister and treasurer.

In a similar vein, in the last 30 years, there have been 10 occasions when the tax to GDP ratio has been below 22.0 per cent of GDP and all 10 were under a Labor Government. To put simply, the Howard government was a high taxer, while the current Labor Government is a lower taxer.
In terms of government spending, there have been only five years in the four decades leading up to 2012-13 when real government spending was cut in real terms. None of those cuts were delivered by a Coalition government. All five times that there has been a cut in real government spending have been when a Labor government has framed and delivered the budget. There were three years during the Hawke government in the late 1980s where government spending was cut in real terms and there have been two occasions in the current Labor administration where such cuts have occurred.
In what should be an embarrassing fact for Mr Hockey, 2012-13 will see real government spending fall 4.4 per cent, the biggest cut ever recorded. This cut will see the government spending to GDP ratio fall to 23.8 per cent, having previously been ramped up to successfully counter the shock from the global financial crisis. This level of spending is 0.4 per cent of GDP below the average government spending level of the Howard government. In today's dollar terms, the 0.4 per cent of GDP amounts to around $6 billion.
