Can someone nudge Davenport, he's dreaming again.how many times have they said the same statement?
Before last years TJ Smith stakes Haylist trainer and jockey declared Haylist in the best condition the horse has ever been and had no fear of BC. Now the owner comes out and says, "But Hay List has never been on his game when he's taken on Black Caviar - never".
PART-OWNER Peter Davenport has taken to his role as Hay List's mouthpiece with relish, "guaranteeing" Black Caviar's perennial whipping boy will end the champion mare's winning streak.
All inquiries regarding Hay List have been directed from Gosford trainer John McNair to Davenport, partly because the Davenports were angered by reports the sprinter was to be switched to a Melbourne trainer.
Davenport said his father, Terry, had been inaccurately "paraphrased", setting off the rumour mill and sparking a family meeting and a decision to handle Hay List's PR.
"The other reason was to give John a chance to train the horses and not worry about all the media hype," Davenport said.
He said Black Caviar's day of reckoning would soon come, and Hay List was the only horse capable of delivering it.
"It's my prerogative as owner to say silly things like that. I will end up either with egg on my face or a slap on the back," Davenport said.
"But Hay List has never been on his game when he's taken on Black Caviar - never.
"When the moon and the stars are in alignment, he'll be the horse to beat her - I guarantee it."
