The sooner the rest of human kind realise that we are all one species, and form a World Government to help resolve the issues in some places that make people seek refuge in other parts of the world ... the better.

We as richer nations owe it to the poorer ones to help bring them into the twenty-first century, rid them of poverty, rid them of religious extremism and provide them with the impetus to lift their standards of education, health care and justice systems to a level that the rest of us take for granted.

It won't be quick, it might take a few generations, but it will have to be a brave group of governments that pledge the kind of support that is needed. It won't win them votes among their selfish constituencies, who will see short term disadvantages to them instead of the long term advantages for all, and that is one stumbling block, the other is religion.

The sooner that organised religion can be dismantled the better. The sooner religious organisations start paying tax, their areas merged together and land sold off ... the better. The sooner they're forced out of health care and welfare the better, without the existence of these religious organisations, much welfare will not be needed anyhow, and all health care, like education should be secular anyway.

We in western society need to stop creating waste, stop exploiting this planet to the extent that we are, and focus our attention on those that need their standard of living raised to an acceptable level.

It will take longer if we don't start now.

This is actually a real problem ...

A person with a mortgage, a young family, striving to get up the corporate ladder a bit to earn more money produces some statistics that will impress the boss because the boss knows that these statistics will sound scandalous and make mainstream people want to watch his television show therefore with more viewers, more advertisers will pay to advertise in the breaks in the show and more people will buy the products that are advertised and everyone in the corporate world is happy.

The mainstream viewers are also happy because the statistics confirm what they always suspected, without looking any deeper into the statistics, which of course is hard work and they haven't time to think too hard because there's so much going on in their worlds to worry about thinking too hard, so the statistics fit neatly as the reason that this whole issue should be stopped. An issue that they are made to believe is an issue by the politicians who feed them with Xenophobia, because they know that the media will pick up on it and find statistics that the people want to hear that because it's an easy solution to stop the problem that doesn't really exist.

Meanwhile, there are innocent people that are truly being hurt by this whole process ...

Aboriginals are all drunkards, dole bludgers, petrol sniffing and live in shanty towns ...

Transsexual people are more likely to drift towards sex work, substance abuse and welfare ...

It's a sick cycle that has to be stopped. The statistics say these things which are very true on the surface, on the surface I say, which is exactly what I was talking about before, but if one ever looks a little deeper they will find why asylum seekers that arrive by boat are more likely to be unemployed years later, why aboriginal people are more likely to abuse substances or why there are high numbers on welfare, why transsexual women drift towards sex work, substance abuse and stuff ...

Mainstream society and the right-wing politicians and media that feed them the things that they want to hear are the problem that others in society are down-trodden, slip through the cracks and discriminated against to the extent that they are. Meanwhile the politicians clamp down on welfare recipients instead of offering them the mental health care that they really need, because this wins them votes from the sheeple that think the whole system can be fixed by toughening things up instead of understanding that the solution lies in making more services available to these people because they truly do need assistance.

and yes the TS situation, mental health yeah sure, you work it out you want to change sex, i understand there are major implications but you do what you have to do, its not a mental health issue, its a personal decision to make in the face of societys norms you have to get strong and deal with it, no amount of welfare (cash) will help the problem, nor selling your body and/or abusing drugs thats again a personal decision, i mean if you cant get a job you cant get a job welfare has its place for this

you have no idea about the australian aboriginal. i have a great friend who is aboriginal and he is ashamed at his race abusing the system.

$30 billion spent these last 10 years for what? thats a damn lot of money
the federal gov pay them to send their children to school.
they have low interest loans, free legal with the best lawyers.
if they fall behind in public housing rent they cannot be evicted.
they are never penalised if they fail to look for work while recieving benefits.they have the best schooling funds for all aboriginal children to pay for fee's, uniforms, school trips, books etc
they have housing projects up north where they have destroyed these homes
they demanded huge land deposits in sth aus under their dream time beliefs being sacred land. once the land was given back to the aboriginal people uranium was discovered so they wanted to sell it to the highest bidder, thank god the fed gov refused. and that mansell guy once said " give us the aboriginal people northern terrorty and build a wall around it, we call it our country and we live on your ( australian peoples ) welfare .

i do understand though that the aboriginal people need much help because of alcholisim, diebeties, etc, and a new system needs to brought in how aboriginal affairs are run..not worry about outsiders opinions.

please dont tell me they are doing it tough. time they accepted blame for their own doings.

Megsy ... this is exactly what I'm talking about ...

I didn't mean to suggest, if I did, that all Aboriginals are ..., or all Transsexuals are ..., but there are, of course, larger percentages of both of those minorities that are ..., than mainstream society.

There are reasons for that, and they need to be explored by those that start tarring all within a minority group with the same brush, as you seem to have done with your examply.

There is a thing called "stigma" Megsy, and unfortunately it plays a huge part in how people from all different minority groups are treated by folks that have never walked in their shoes, by mainstream society and by the those that work within the system that is supposed to be there to help these folks.

I'm sure your friend would agree with my view that he probably goes about his life in this part of the world having to try and continually overcome the stigma that accompanies indigenous people ... show him this post ...

I have to also deal with the stigma in my day to day life that society dishes out to transsexual people as sex workers, drug addicts, welfare recipients and mental health riddled because that is the stigma that society has through the media and others have just formed because they have never bothered to understand more. But I don't blame the sex workers, the substance abusers, the welfare recipients etc for having to live with this stigma, I blame a society that has never, ever looked deeper than the surface and through the governments that they elect, never throw the required amount of resources our way to help eradicate an easily solvable issue once and for all. I'm sure the same can be said for the Indigenous, the Asylum Seekers, and many other minority groups than the few that I've mentioned here.
Report ozrazer September 9, 2011 1:22 AM BST
its always someone elses fault...........

society is to blame for people selling their body and abusing substances...

we force them to stick the needle into themselves and forcibly hold them down whilst someone has sex with them.....yes we are all guilty as charged..NOT

welfare should only be for unemployed, pensioners, low income earners with families and disability.......being transexual is not a disability

when in fact - it's the greed is good, selfishness, middle class welfare, what's in it for me mentality that's leading to the breakdown of society - however, it's easier to blame a few unfortunates that are looking for a better life

It is the will of the people apparently......

Rudd surges as the people's choice
Phillip Coorey
September 12, 2011

LABOR would vault to an election-winning lead if it brought back Kevin Rudd as leader, according to the latest Herald/Nielsen poll.

In a finding that will do little to quell leadership chatter inside the government, Labor's primary vote would leap from 27 per cent to 42 per cent under Mr Rudd, giving it a two-party-preferred lead over the Coalition of 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

The poll finds Labor now trails the Coalition by 58 per cent to 42 on a two-party-preferred basis, which is no change from the last poll a month ago.

The former prime minister is streets ahead as preferred leader, with 44 per cent opting for him ahead of 19 per cent for Julia Gillard, 10 per cent for Stephen Smith, 8 per cent for Simon Crean, 5 per cent for Bill Shorten and 4 per cent for Greg Combet.

The poll also finds that more than half - 54 per cent - of voters favour the onshore processing of asylum seekers who arrive by boat, while only 25 per cent favour the position of the main parties to send them overseas.

This represents little change from a month ago and indicates public opinion has not been influenced by the High Court decision which ruled the Malaysia plan unlawful, cast doubt on Nauru and Manus Island, and led to departmental warnings that 600-plus asylum seekers would arrive each month if onshore processing were embraced.

The poll of 1400 voters was taken from Thursday night to Saturday night in the febrile environment of the asylum-seeker debate and continuing leadership speculation in Labor.

It finds Ms Gillard's personal ratings continue to decline.

Her approval rating plunged 6 percentage points to 32 per cent in a month and her disapproval rating rose 5 points to 62 per cent, making her the most unpopular prime minister since Paul Keating in August 1994.

Tony Abbott's ratings were unchanged at 43 per cent approval and 52 per cent disapproval.

Ms Gillard's preferred prime minister rating fell 4 points to 40 per cent while Mr Abbott's rose a point to 48 per cent.

Labor's primary vote of 27 per cent is a point lower than last month, while the Coalition's primary vote is steady at 48 per cent and the Greens rose a point to 13 per cent.

When voters were asked how they would vote if ''Kevin Rudd replaced Julia Gillard as leader'', Labor's primary vote rose 15 points to 42 per cent, the Coalition's fell 5 points to 43 per cent and the Greens fell 4 points to 9 per cent.

The Nielsen poll director, John Stirton, said while there was no doubt Mr Rudd would lift Labor's vote from its historic lows, ''the real question is what would happen when the novelty wears off?''

''In the Coalition leadership struggle between Andrew Peacock and John Howard in the 1980s, there were periods when each man was more popular as alternative leader than he was as leader - a classic 'grass-is-always-greener' phenomenon that Labor MPs should keep in mind.''

The poll comes at a fraught time for the Prime Minister. Today, with Parliament resuming, she faces crisis meetings of cabinet and caucus to try to legislate around the High Court decision and bring the Malaysia plan back into play. Then she faces a tough battle with Mr Abbott, who is prepared only to pass laws that would allow for the ''Pacific solution'' islands of Nauru and Manus Island but not Malaysia.

Tomorrow the carbon tax battle will flare when the government introduces the legislation and seeks to begin debate. The opposition will try to shut down debate pending an inquiry into the bills.

In Ms Gillard's favour, Mr Rudd, if his doctor permits, is due to leave for the US on Wednesday for the AusMin talks in San Francisco, followed possibly by the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Coalition is against the Malaysian deal, but Tony Abbott will support government legislation relating to offshore processing if it is in the national interest.

These are people who can afford to pay people smugglers, the poor bastards stuck in the refugee camps can't and those are the people in the queue who these supposedly compassionate people ignore because they instead support these illegal immigrants who choose to country shop bypassing numerous safe countries in order to bleed us dry and who take precedent over financial support that should be going to pensioners, aged care and the less fortunate here before it does to outsiders who have contributed nothing towards the well being of this country.

Let's see how I go with this then ...

Megsy, you're 9th generation Australian okay.

Back when your ancestors migrated to Australia and your other ancestors came here as part of the first fleet, I think it's reasonable to suggest that they didn't mind other people migrating to Australia from foreign shores at the same time either. It would be absolutely hypocritical if they did, so I'm not suggesting that they did.

They had offspring that were born in Australia and were probably glad that their parents had migrated here. It would also be rather hypocritical of them if they didn't mind others migrating from foreign shores also, to share in the wonderful life they had for themselves in the country that their parents had arrived in.

My question to you Megsy is, as what point along the historical timeline that is your ancestral existence in Australia, do you believe that your ancestors changed from those that were welcoming of immigrants to those that were not welcoming of immigrants, and subsequently, what reasons do you believe they would've had for changing their view on this issue?
Report ozrazer September 14, 2011 12:50 AM BST
my guess to the question would be, when they made laws for immigration!
people of any nationality who respect the law are welcomed, those that do so by jumping the queue in front of those that wait for their time are frowned upon and rightfully so
otherwise oz fills up with freeloaders, once again AND I KNOW QUEENIE TOU ARE READING THIS SWEETIE LoveLovethose that respect immigration laws are more than welcome, i dont have a racist bone in my body

TeenQueen...you are really confusing.

secondly  quote: I have a life thank you for your concern. I enjoy my life very much, I don't hate innocent people as you seem to do Megsy ...

You remind me of several people that were banned from this forum recently and miraculously never returned once their bans were lifted, or not under those other names anyway.

innocent people?? wtf???....i said i dislike queue jumpers, not the real immigrants who want to wait their time legally to start a new life in Australia, so go get yourself a lifeBlush
