Tomorrow night All Blacks v Sprinboks.Can't be bothered to go into a lengthy analysis here suffice to say the kiwis will destroy the boks.Handicap is 17.5 points they will cover that after 20 minutes.

I am at a loss as to how Robbie Fruen is not in the AB squad.I thought the SBW/Fruen centre pairing would be considered No1 not the Smith/Nonu.Good news for the wallabies.I would much rather we face Nonu and Smith,not saying they are not great players,just not as dangerous as SBW/Fruen.

I see ABs are now 1.44 to win the tri nations.That's pretty short imo.The game next week is crucial.I think whoever wins that will win the 3N.Aust are a big hope in that game.Have to have a think about what to do.

remove everything from a room, turn off the lights, and lay down in the centre, its the best thinking position IMO

I am too lazy to remove everything from a room.

Just remove it figuratively then, like clearing your mind. G'day mate, excellent idea with the thread. Cheers, SP.

You have inspired me SP to get serious about posting on rugby matters.I expect by the end of RWC this will be a very long thread!

@doubleagent

Thanks for saying, nice to know I can be inspiring. I'm sure it'll become a long thread, indeed, by then. Especially, if people come to realize your solid knowledge and understanding of all things rugby matters. Cheers, SP.

Note to all on thread: If you are not aware, last week's match between the Wallabies and the Springboks was totally, accurately, understood and called by the author of this thread.

I'm thinking maybe the half time handicap of 9.5pts might be the go.Sometimes a team gets a big lead and takes their foot off the gas and the losers get a few late consolation tries which can fvck up your handicap.

Half time 18-7.Got a bit worried there!
By:

Full time 40-7, for the home side. The All Blacks destroyed the Boks all right, covering the handicap with ease. No need for any worry. Cheers, SP.

Don't entirely agree with you there Crow.A win though would do wonders for their confidence.Mind you I think this batch of wallabies,led by Genia and Cooper absolutely ooze confidence.The wallabies have not been like that for nearly a decade.

No surprise to see Matt Giteau omitted from the 24 man squad.What was a shock was Nathan Sharpe.Thought he would be on the bench this week for sure.He didn't play well against Samoa but neither did Timani and they've taken him.Sharpe has been one of our best forwards the last couple of years and had a good Super season.His experience would be invaluable at Eden Park.I'm baffled!

Agree DA, especially with the better judges thinking the wallabies need to win this if their any chance to win the world cup

If the wallabies win on Saturday they must be big chance to take out the tri nations.As I suspected the AB's are resting some players from the South African tour.With a stonger Boks side on deck the ABs may be vulnerable.If I had backed the ABs earlier on at 1.60 or 1.70 I would definitely be laying off now at 1.28.  If only I had thought of it a couple of weeks ago!

We've got one of the poorest records going around at Eden Park, the Haka is going to pump them all up, they'll go feral in the stands and on the pitch as a result, and we'll be pluggin' away for the rest of the match trying to absorb the pressure and remain on terms.

Cheers, SP.

I think Australia will win.It's true our record there is poor.But some of those losses have been narrow and some have been where we've been outclassed.Not so this time.This wallaby side is the best we've had since the Rod Macqueen golden age.
Look at the ABs.They have a lot of players in their team whose best rugby is behind them.Once again they may have peaked between World Cups!

@doubleagent

You know what I think about your Rugby knowledge so I won't go on about it, I put up a negative wall to challenge some initial points, and it looks like it was hardly much of a wall, it seems. Wallabies seem like value with any points start. Cheers, SP.

I'll put a post up tommorrow look into it in more detail SP.Thinking out loud atm the wallabies look good value at 4.20  or the astonishingly generous 10.5 pts start.

Interesting to note the price of the Wallabies at the Totalizator is 3.5 - suggesting that there may be a low risk option to back the Wallabies for 4.0 with for a trade prior to the game. Not sure if the spread and % will be covered, but it's something worth observing.

Cheers,
SP.

Yeah I saw the tote odds today SP they are a joke.They've got Aust 3.50 to win the world cup last time I looked on here they were 5.20.Incidentally that's not a bad bet either.I'm sure that price will shorten significantly in coming months.

There's not a lot between the two sides tomorrow.In the forwards the ABs look to have the edge.Crockett and Franks are better than Alexander and Kepu.Mealamu used to be better than Moore but not sure now.FFS how old is he? The locks Williams and Thorn have been outstanding over the years but again,they are getting on a bit.Horwill and Simmons have done well this year,mostly,so it's pretty even here.Interesting to see how long till Vickerman is sent on.Kieran Read is a fantastic player,better tham Macalman who is at least an honest worker.McCaw is not playing his best atm,give Pocock the nod here.As for the 6s I'm glad Kaino is playing because I think Adam Thompson is better.I'm not a fan of Elsom though he went better against the boks.Pretty even I think.

As for the backs I think we have the more dangerous.Halfback is one position where the ABs just can't find a world class player since Justin Marshall.Genia at least ten times better than Weepu.Take your pick with the 10's.Carter clearly the best in the world but I wouldn't swap him for the freak Cooper.Love watching him play.The centres are tricky.I thought SBW and Fruen would be the AB centres instead they've stuck with Nonu and Smith.I'm not a huge fan of Nonu, and Smith, while an excellent defender will not be remembered as the most exciting centre NZ has ever produced.Mccabe has done well so far and is about the biggest 12 that we can find!Still not as big as Nonu!Adam Ash has been one of Aust's best for a few years now.It's pretty even maybe AB's slightly.The wings I think wallabies Ioane and Cooper are superior to Sivivatu and Gear.Surprised and relieved that Corey Jane and Zac Guildford aren't playing.Last week against the boks the ABs made 11 line breaks.Seven of them were by Jane and Guildford.Fullback,Beale clearly the better.Muliaina has been a fantastic player but his best days are behind him.Dont't think he will be in the starting side much longer.

There you have it.ABs a bit better in the forwards the wallabies a bit better in the backs.

The set piece.Scrum should be interesting.Almost impossible to win a game if your scrum is on roller skates.I think AB's will be superior but I don't think they'll smash our scrum.I'm a bit worried about it but not overly.The line out we should do well.I think we will win our ball and maybe get one or two steals.The breakdown will be vital.In the past decade wallaby sides have been soft at the breakdown.Play soft tomorrow and we will lose.But I don't think they will.Am confident we can hold our own.The frustrating thing is the way the ABs play at the breakdown.They lay all over your ball,they don't roll away,they stand on your side of the ruck,they enter from the side,they take out players on the fringes.You name it they do it! Every team pushes the boundaries but the ABs and the Crusaders are unbelievable.Craig Joubert is a good ref but I can't recall him ever getting heavy with McCaw.Anyway,we'll just have to live with that.

Interesting to see how muck kicking there will be.Both sides love to run it and from what I can gather the weather seems favourable.Carter may be reluctant to kick to the wallabies back three of O'Connor Cooper and Beale for fear of the counter attack.I think Genia and Cooper may kick more often to the ABs back three,or even try to find touch.Although the Reds were renowned for playing running rugby they also kicked the ball more than any other team.
There is talk of trying to exploit Ioane when he stands at 10 in defence.It's worth a shot I suppose but I'm not too worried.They have their own weak defender in Nonu who sometimes doesn't read the play very well.
One thing that is hard to miss lately about the Aussies is they are full of confidence.The way Cooper Genia Beale and O'Connor play you can tell that they believe in themselves.They know they're good,they're not scared to have a crack,they just conduct themselves like winners.I haven't seen that from Aussies since Gregan and Larkham were running the show.It fills me with confidence.
This is the oldest AB side in their history.
Much has been made of our poor record in NZ especially since 2003.Bookies look at this stuff to form their market.And rightly so.But winning and losing streaks don't last forever.This is a different team and I can guarantee some most aussie teams in the past  went into the games knowing they would lose.Not all but some.This team will be believing they can win.
