and then they show ONE!!!!!!!!!!!! fkn horse IN the yard for the first race
ffs, I'm makin a voooodooo thunderbird doll |
By:
Watched the replay of yesterdays TVN coverage of the Lightning Stakes meeting.
It seems an effort was made to show ALL of them in the yard !!! Won't complain about the other facets, at the mo ..... THE INTENTION SHOWN.... WAS GOOOOD ! |
By:
The mounting yard coverage from yesterdays Sandown meeting, with some good size fields,
hosted by Shane and Bruce appeared to continue the good intent.TAKE A BOW, boys. As for Thunderbird "Americain" Olzanski at Werribee...ranged from fair to hopeless as usual. Shane and Bruce, any chance ya could pull him aside??.... ffs, seems oblivious Oh, and btw Thunderbird, best not to ask a question than ask a stupid one Ask Tony Vasil |
By:
Will go back over the weekends coverage, soon. For the moment though, let us consider the
coverage of the last two days of yearling sales as a contrast. Seemingly a DIFFERENT CAMERA CREW / PRODUCER What they didn't do.... - cover the horses on screen with information ( in this case breeding/ stud farm details) - choose camera positions located well above the horse - choose camera positions reliant on human heads not obscuring the view What they did do... - Used two or even three screens (within a full screen)Auctioneer, bidder, horse. Obviously a tiny "mounting yard", unobscured and well lit were conditions perfect for the showcasing of a subject (yearling)........ but if the same crew who work on racedays were in action, the powerful vendor/ breeding operations would have had their guts for garters. .... Wouldn't that be lovely |
By:
The last at Warrnambool, they crossed to the yard as the toppy approached it,
admittedly 15 minutes before start time, Shane got through the entire 13 runners and showed a replay before the jockeys mounted up GOLD STAR and ELEPHANT STAMP...... SHANE TEMPLETON Setting the standard .... that is regularly required!! |
By:
i think you have em on the back foot SPOOON.im sure they read this thread.
lets hope they pick up their game more often, doubt it, but dreams are free. |

Don't usually watch either "show" but happened across another two glaring examples of the
TVN HYPOCRISY lately. Richard Hains? on the Early Mail THE INTERESTING HORSE IS BASHAN AND IT WILL PAY TO SEE HIM IN THE YARD Oh, reeeeeeeeeeeallllly, Richard??? What are you saying?? hmmmmmmmmmm Richie Callender on Get On bemoaning, getting it wrong on his personal view of the mounting yard... "when you don't have a bet in the morning, like Pierro, who I was declaring last week, ya get there ya see him walk IN THE YARD, he made me look anorexic, he was huge, oh he was fat, as Mark Sheahan said, "guts dragging on the ground" and you say huh, too clever Richie boy ya did well here, and then they win anyway....." Hmmmm, Richie, we hear what you're saying. You'd have been disappointed if you'd backed it before you saw it in the mounting yard. Just because you and others "got it wrong" doesn't change the fact that once again you reinforce....... it's important for YOU ....to see them IN THE YARD. INDISPUTABLE HYPOCRISY LIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
By:
Spoon i hear you brother but have a think back about 10 years when all we had was sky, you wouldnt have known there was a bookie on course because they never told you the flucs, you never saw a horse in the yard and they showed you half a race.
Now If you think TVN are bad lets have a look at Sky, Matt Browning, Richard Freedman, Greg Radley, Jo McKinnon wouldnt know arthur from martha when it comes to form and then there is the bald Matthews who would talk under water for 20 minutes and say nothing. Please no contest. Secondly how many more trials are Sky going f**k up at the provincial trials, its a sheltered workshop. |
By:
i watched TVN after bart ****s horse won, bart wasnt giving much away to the TVN guy, actually very reserve in his replies.
i flicked the channel to channel 7 in time for their interview with bart, he was full of beans, joking, more indepth in his replies.....maybe he dislikes TVN also??? |
By:
Yes didnt look too interested in talking to Clark which i have noticed previously also
|
By:
Dont blame Bart ...Clarke is a FIGJAM
|
By:
Did notice Bart seemed "disinterested", he looked a treat in the yard though
Megsy, I do not dislike TVN. I dislike their negligence of the mounting yard coverage. Starry, gimme a break....35 years ago, even the average joe was able to record and replay footage. This is a TELEVISION STATION... they don't lack technology!!! TVN is a dedicated thoroughbred racing channel...primarily NSW and Victoria. IT EXISTS TO PROMOTE WAGERING. To do that , it puts on "discussion" shows, race replays, "expert' analysis, trial info etc and of course on-track coverage. The "value" of "viewing" the horses in the mounting yard has been referred to by every single person holding a microphone for TVN. The hypocrisy is....... the only consistent hiqh quality vision of horses they have shown, was from.... THE YEARLING SALES !! ....no betting there , just so you know |
By:
Again couldnt agree more Spoon, we're not interest in listening to the like of caroline crap on about breeding pre race, richie, bruce, gately, richo waffle on with nonsense interviews with trainers pre race and if you insist on having them why do they have to be on the screen at the expense of the horses in the yard, they can be showing the horses at the same time and stick the talking heads in the top right corner of the screen.
It's not that hard, show the bloody horses each and every time that is your your job, take a leaf out of Nike's book and just do it TVN. |
By:
Saw some...... just IQ'd the rest......... of Sale, today
TERRY BAILEY running the coverage of the yard...... YOU ARE MY HERO One for the archives Thank you, Terry. |
By:
Jason Richardson Kilmore 27/3
R1 Crossed to the yard 10 mins prior to start 4 of 10 shown in the yard R2 Crossed to the yard 11 mins prior to start Some serious waffling meant the cameraman moved on to the next horse without waiting for the end of his assessments on more than one occasion (hint hint) Managed to get a cheerio to proud new-father, Troy Corstens, so......... 5 of 8 shown in the yard R3 Crossed to the yard 10 mins prior to start Some serious waffling meant the cameraman moved on to the next horse without waiting for the end of his assessments on more than one occasion, actually moved on to the 3 then the 4 while he was still burbling about the 2. When he came up for air he noticed this and said “we’ll have to slow down a bit here” 8 of 9 shown in the yard R4 Crossed to the yard 10 mins prior to start 5 of 10 shown in the yard R5 Crossed to the yard 11 mins prior to start 6 of 7 shown in the yard R6 Crossed to the yard 10 mins prior to start 6 of 6 shown in the yard …….SHOULD WE APPLAUD?? R7 Crossed to the yard 10 mins prior to start 6 of 6 shown in the yard …….. THINK THERE”S A PATTERN FORMING! R8 Crossed to the yard 12 mins prior to start 6 of 12 shown in the yard…….. YEP, THERE IT IS!! It appears the "right" number for Jason to cover within the mounting yard is 6 runners, with a whopping THIRD of the entire meeting's participants unseen in the yard Kudos to the cameraman / producer who at least attempted to move through them at a more realistic pace. Seems from the Race 3 embarrassment that Jason may be gazing intently at his IPad ala THUNDERBIRD, completely oblivious to the movements, progress, within the mounting yard, just metres away. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the two most....ummmmm.. "progressive" and "upwardly mobile" hosts are the two worst offenders in regard to weighing up the value of their "assessments" against the viewers opportunity to see ALL of the horses in the yard. Methinks it's not. Offering his insight and opinion on runners and the race (overall)is part of the role, I understand that, however preaching to the converted, there really is no need to consistently repeat details that are listed in every form guide or who is riding them........ unless the audience is vision impaired. Offering insights into the Dam's racetrack career when the horse itself has had a dozen starts, sending cheerios and burbling with the studio host may have a time.....it's just NOT while they walk around in the mounting yard for 5 minutes. Cmon, Jason................. LIFT !!!!! |

Kyneton meeting, T Bailey in charge of the mounting yard.
Race 2 no-2 "looks to my eye in the yard as if the run will do her the world of good, she's got very warm, she looks to be carrying a tummy, I had her right in the mix...... I've gone from being a big fan.....to being... I'm happy to look at her, not have a play with her today" then wrapping up his tips... from what he'd seen in the yard he changed 2 of his 4 selected runners!!!!!!! THE TWO HE LEFT OUT RAN 5TH.....AND LAST THE TWO HE PUT IN RAN 2ND ....AND FOURTH Good call, Terry -------------------------------------------------------- Race 5 Crossed to the yard 8 mins prior 10 starters ...ONLY SEVEN OF THEM SEEN "Zaeem looks EXTREMELY fit going down to the barrier stalls" Well, Terry, that's great... but looking at it's arse didn't afford us the same opportunity to judge it, did it? Wins at $12 and the quinella horse also unseen IN the yard! ------------------------------------------------------------ The wash-up for Kyneton; Another dogs breakfast, did get to see most of them IN the yard but as highlighted above......MOST is NOT good enough! Add to that the camera positioning, one at the bottom corner of the yard and the other set up high......just plain DUMB. ----------------------------------------------------------- For an example of how to "show" a horse on camera, the raceday crew should watch the Inglis Easter Yearling Preview show that Caroline Searcy presented recently. Now THAT is how to provide an opportunity to ASSESS a horse on looks walking in a loop. Amongst other things, the camera was always shooting from generally North, they limited the vision restricted by angle and only filmed from ground level. Of course it's different to a mounting yard with many subjects, however ..... it can be done. Raceday Crew, feel free to PM me for assistance if required. The helpful fact is that GOOD VISION of a runner probably only requires 5 SECONDS of vision, per runner. In essence, Terry.... WE, THE VIEWERS, DESERVE THE SAME "VISION" THAT YOU HAVE!! It's not alot to ask for is it?, really...... |
By:
Great Thread THERE....IS....NO....SPOOOOON.
Be nice if they also didn't cover the horses with all the odds jockey trainer info as their showing us the horse parade. Lift the (odds-info) over the horse so its at the top of the screen or keep it under but not right smack on the horse so we cant see anything. |
By:
Tx, Mahogany.....you are correct, on-screen graphics is another dog's breakfast in itself.
The Cranbourne night meeting..... on the eve of Good Friday Rob Guest and Adam Olzanski run the show with lots of input from MOUNTING YARD man, SAM HYLAND 10 mins prior to start Race 1 ...... 8 starters ........ALL SHOWN With an extra light globe provided somewhere since the last meeting ( more are required), the view of the mounting yard (barring camera height). WAS GOOD!!! and similarly to the recent Sandown meeting where Jason *"Meatloaf" Richardson was chaperoned by Shane .........the pace of comments / assessments shared by Gately and Thunderbird was excellent!!! What day is it? Who said miracles don't happen? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76RrdwElnTU ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 mins prior to start Race 2 .......10 starters..... 5 SHOWN !!!!!!! Cramped for time by FILL, including ANOTHER lengthy preview of the Golden Slipper and Thunderbird waxing lyrical over the chicken curry in the cafeteria (filmed on an angle as usual) ... crossing to the yard 7 minutes prior is at least...RUDE !!! Irony determined that the FIRST FIVE HOME in the race were those 5 UNSEEN in the yard, with even the eventual winner #2 well backed and allowed to miss the compressed coverage simply by being held a little longer in the pre-parade ring. A promising start followed by .................. FUKKING PITIFUL "coverage" of the mounting yard !! RACE 3 .....8 minutes prior........8 starters......... 6 SHOWN RACE 4...... 7 minutes prior....... 8 starters.......... ALL shown Wooohoooo RACE 5....... 6 minutes PRIOR !!!..........8 starters...... TWO SHOWN....FFS!! Cramped for time by nothing more important than the three of them previewing the RYDER Stakes (two days away) and responding to viewer email questions then crossing to the yard to see TWO runners is about as poor as it gets........... who is actually running the show?? Don't they own a watch between them??? RACE 6 .....8 minutes prior........8 starters......... ALL SHOWN (although pretty average vision)... Yeehaaaa?? RACE 7 ..... 7 minutes prior.......10 runners...5 SHOWN......... FFS Race 8 .... 8 minutes prior ...... 9 runners... 8 SHOWN In summary, what a debacle. They showed in the first race that a decent coverage of the yard can be achieved, after that someone seems to have forgotten where the line between FILL and COVERAGE is. The ONLY meeting to show for the night means FILL is required, some will "work", some will not, regardless........... IT IS TIME FILLER. WAKE THE FK UP to the obvious!!! Gately and Thunderbird to the naughty bench......... FACING THE WALL!!! Sammy Hyland,.... I shouldn't ..oh dear...ummmm.... nah, ...., seems a nice bloke, havin a crack..... ummmm, keep punchin, Sammy. *Meatloaf is also of the opinion that....... TWO OUTTA THREE AINT BAD Coolmore "The Home of Champions"....... sponsoring the mounting yard coverage. More appropriate would be Eukanuba " Quality Dogs' Breakfast"......sponsoring the mounting yard. |

AHA! Lateral thinking..brings me..and my emoticons back!..through the side door.
Wodonga yesterday, hosted by serial Mounting Yard Meanderer........ Adam Olzanski (Awww , It's gonna be ugly......for sure) One mounting yard camera? poorly positioned ......as per usual. Missed taping the first two races , but.... after watching the rest.....I'd be amazed if they were any different to the next 6. No NSW meeting for coverage, less interruptions/distractions for the Easter Yearling Sale.... programming, most ummmmmm...."fortunate" for "them"............ hmmmmmmm A non-descript Wodonga meeting is left for coverage R3 ...9 minutes to Start......10 runners........ALL SHOWN IN the yard. OH MY LORD!!.... With time to spare too!! A flash in the pan? A freak of nature? A directive from "above"? Have the planets aligned? Has Thunderbird had an epiphany? Has he finally realized........There is no spoon We'll see. R4 ...9 minutes to Start......9 runners........ALL SHOWN IN the yard. Speechless! Back to back perfect scores ( vision sloppy , that's not his fault), going for three straight Cmonnnnnn, Thunderbird..... YOU CAN DOOOOO IT! Can't believe it! I'm barracking for him R5 ..6 minutes to Start....12 runners........Gee, makin it hard for him ...ALL SHOWN IN the yard. ..SOUND OF APPLAUSE!!..in fact... I STAND to applaud R6 ..7 minutes prior to Start.10 runners. missed one(just onto the track).9 SHOWN IN the yard Missed one, he's only human... hardly worth mentioning.... MY BOY ADAM R7 ..8 minutes prior to Start...9 runners. ALL SHOWN IN the yard ... of course R8 ..8 minutes prior to Start...12 runners..ALL SHOWN IN the yard AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING SCENES! It's like the aftermath of the 1990 AFL Grand Final!! and as I did back then, I re-watch the highlights, through teary eyes..as ADAM heads back toward the WINNERS STALL to receive accolades from the adoring crowd. I watch to see why they crossed to ADAM with only 6 minutes prior to the 5th race... where he was confronted by 12 runners. His defining moment for the day ADAM EATS PRESSURE!! They'd been interviewing the vendor of the MILLION DOLLAR YEARLING Cross to the yard, no 15 (rider aboard) on screen (no 10, rider aboard) seen in foreground. Flick to tote prices full screen, then back to the 2 (in the pre-parade ring) then #3 ( no rider ) then #2 entering the mounting yard (no rider) then #3 again (no rider) then #4 (rider up) as he leaves the yard and trots away, on the track.... hmmmmm, that's funny...the #3 is in front of him on the track, WITH RIDER UP?? and... the 5 ( rider up, trots along behind him, on the track) then #5 in the yard ( no rider) .....oooooh, say it aint so then #6 (no rider) then #8 (no rider) then #10 (no rider)...... hmmmm, it had one when they first crossed then #11 (no rider) then #12 (no rider) then #13 (no rider) then #15 (RIDER UP) with #10 in the foreground ......OH DEAR It's the same vision, exactly the same vision shown when they initially crossed from the yearling sale. then #16 (rider up) Then hurry back to the Sales to interview the purchaser of the MILLION DOLLAR YEARLING. ONLY TWO MINUTES LATER, unable to stop him talking, they cross to the track moments before they leave the barriers. My forensic analysis of the match defining highlight, Race 5, has uncovered a sham. A couple of splices almost covered the fact.... THAT MOUNTING YARD COVERAGE WAS PRE-RECORDED, with "LIVE" viewing cut in a couple of times, to "catch" a couple of the runners. PRE-RECORDED WAS NOT NOTED DURING IT"S SHOWING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It just shows what can be done when the "DECREE" comes from the "right" people. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And as Adam comes back to scale, the crowd has now "turned"...the mood has changed... and punters no longer spray champagne, they line the fence to hurl abuse. As he nears, looking afraid, I notice the champagne spray has affected his face... furrow lines are appearing, he's ageing with every step closer and as he completes his journey, I see the spray tan dribbling from his fetlocks to reveal...... two white socks It's not Adam Olzanski at all!!! Its...it's.....it's JOHN MESSARA!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And the sun sets... on a non-descript meeting at Wodonga.. old-timers remember another non-descript meeting at Doomben..on the 8th of August, 1984. Exposed. Do it for them....so DO IT FOR US |
By:
Richard Haynes recently expressed his dismay at the recorded mounting yard pictures coming from country NSW via Sky.
sigh.." gee, fair dinkum.. you get to see the favourite for about three seconds...(pause)...we've been down this road before, (shake of the head), beyond our control unfortunately." Gee, Richard. Imagine how that would be so easily rectified if TVN were in control. Imagine how much time could be devoted to showing the market leader, in the Mounting Yard, before every race. Ok then, get ready.......I'll compile some stats on the issue at hand ......and post them up on here. Is that?...no, couldn't be....is that.... HYPOCRITE, I smell? We'll see |

They never went close to getting "yard vision" right.......
I'll still miss them An update from the Racing Victoria Chairman on Media Rights Dear Owners, I write to you again as a valued industry participant regarding our media rights and the broadcasting of Victorian racing. As advised previously, Racing Victoria (RV) has been working closely with Country Racing Victoria (CRV) and our Metro Clubs – Victoria Racing Club, Moonee Valley Racing Club and Melbourne Racing Club – since Christmas to successfully complete the break-up of TVN and to consider future broadcast agreements. This work has considered the optimum broadcast models for Victorian racing via traditional mediums in homes, pubs and clubs; across the rapidly-evolving digital world; and to a range of international racing jurisdictions, whilst exploring new technologies to provide a better viewing experience. Throughout this process, our primary focus has been on the future growth of our sport and achieving the best outcome – not the quickest – for the Victorian racing industry today and into the future. RV, CRV and the Metro Clubs are united and committed to recruiting the next generation of punters, owners and fans and the broadcast of our product is critical to that. It remains our firm belief that to achieve this we must ensure that more people can watch and engage with Victorian racing whenever, wherever and however they choose. Ultimately, we are committed to increasing the customer base for Victorian racing so that we can grow returns to you and build future investment in our sport. As you are likely aware, TVN will cease transmission this weekend with Flemington’s Super Saturday meeting the last to be broadcast on the channel. One of our objectives throughout this process was to ensure that vision of Victorian racing is available on every Australian’s mobile phone, tablet and desktop computer. We are collectively pleased to deliver this through Racing.com which will, from this Sunday, 15 March, offer Victorian racing live and free across these digital devices through ‘Racing Live’. You will be able to watch extensive coverage of all Victorian TAB races wherever you are, with an expert team delivering pre and post-race analysis, interviews and news live from the track on Racing.com. Racing.com will also continue to offer a free archive of all Victorian races, along with an expanding news service. For those wishing to view on TV at home, or in pubs and clubs, Sky Racing will continue to broadcast Victorian racing on Sky 1, Sky 2 and Sky World from Sunday. We remain in good faith negotiations with Tabcorp, the owners of Sky Racing, on a long-term arrangement for the broadcast of Victorian racing. These negotiations, which separately and collectively cover our future domestic, international and digital broadcast rights, will continue beyond 15 March. We are wagering partners with Tabcorp and have a common desire to expand the audience. Our wagering joint venture with the TAB extends until 2024 and we are committed to making it a continued success. In terms of pay-TV, we are continuing to pursue the opportunity for a premium broadcast of Victorian racing on channel 522 – that occupied by TVN until this Saturday – however this will not occur from Sunday. Another stated objective was to ensure that Victorian racing is available in every Australian’s lounge room. We maintain a desire to grow free-to-air coverage of our sport and will continue to pursue this. RV, CRV and the Metro Clubs have negotiated with the Seven Network for 25 existing premium Victorian racedays to remain available on free-to-air TV following the demise of TVN. The Seven Network’s coverage continues beyond Super Saturday with the broadcast of our standalone Saturday meetings at Bendigo and Mornington in the coming weeks. We have also been working to develop a framework that will allow future broadcasters the ability to deliver a more engaging and contemporary view of Victorian racing. As a result, the opportunity will exist over the next six to 12 months for us to deliver broadcasters multiple feeds from the racetrack, thus allowing more camera angles, interactive broadcasts and replays, as well as the integration of new technology like Trakus and Hawkeye. From an integrity viewpoint, this framework will deliver enhanced connectivity allowing us to expand the use of our Control Room – a secondary raceday integrity team based at our Flemington offices – to all TAB meetings, with live feeds of Hawkeye and the photo finish. In the break-up of TVN, we have also acquired Best Bets and Winning Post which will complement our digital offering on Racing.com by offering first class form guides and editorial in print. Much work has been done since Christmas on building a platform for future growth and we will continue to work on achieving the right long-term outcome for Victorian racing – both locally and internationally. I know people want a quick deal but our responsibility is to get the best outcome for Victorian racing. As an industry we are united in the goal of taking Victorian racing to more people on more platforms and ensuring we continue to expand the audience for our sport. You can be assured that the interests of all participants are at the heart of each decision made. We trust that you will enjoy the free and expanded digital broadcast on Racing.com and continue to watch Victorian racing on Sky Racing and the Seven Network. Yours sincerely, Robert Roulston Chairman Racing Victoria |

By:
A big big reason why I tuned out of sky coverage ....used to make me so very angry to see prices overlayed on the horses....
and not many things upset me (nrl rorted ganes excepted) But back to the point ..yes...fluctuation prices (and therefore who gives a damn) preference to the horse flesh |
