we agree to disagree, horses that have cat in them do not win the races he did, in the manner and times he did, think i mocked him in the ID as mrs and i went up for the ID, still we had a good 4 days up there, nice steakhouse at labrador, Kavs steakhouse, had a steak there with lazza about 25 years prior, steaks were still good this time around

definitely something amiss with him at the ID STS, what i was more disappointed with, was the 260 a head it cost to get into the smorgasboard at the trots, thought it was poor value for the quality of food they served up

good to see some sanity at last....The Reactor saved from humiliation by avoiding Shark Gesture, Won The West and co.... Ben Franklin now main mission for 'Reactor'
Former champion New Zealand pacer Auckland Reactor N will bypass Sunday's (June 13) big $228,000 Bettor's Delight stakes race at Tioga Downs in favour of a lesser quality harness racing event at Harrah's Chester on the same day. His New Jersey trainer and ex-pat Kiwi Kelvin Harrison said Auckland Reactor N wasn't ready to take on some of North America's best pacers in two days time. "Although he's come through his last race well he's still struggling with the climate change. He battles the heat and for that reason it would be too big an ask to start him against the best just yet. I'd rather give him a couple of easier races before lining up against the big guns," Harrison told Harnesslink from the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey. Asked what major stakes race he would now be targeting with the former two-times New Zealand Harness-Horse-of-the-Year, Harrison replied: "The half million dollar Ben Franklin at Harrah's Chester Downs on July 18," he said. The Mach Three 6-year-old has drawn six of seven in Sunday's $28,000 Mile. It is race 10 and it's scheduled to get under way at 3.45pm (7.45am Monday morning NZ time). He will be driven by Brian Sears. After three qualifying wins Auckland Reactor N finished sixth at the Meadowlands on May 22 and then eight days later he finished fourth at Harrah's Chester. Harrison said it was unfortunate that ‘The Reactor' had been struggling with the warmer temperatures. "He's working really well but you know he's feeling the weather. It's a shame because Joyfuljoy came from the same New Zealand stable (Mark Purdon/Grant Payne) and she's thriving. She likes the heat. She will qualify at Chester on Saturday week," Harrison said. Harrison believed Auckland Reactor N would go close to winning on Sunday. "He's in great nick and we are slowly working towards the big ones. There's no use rushing or over-doing a horse of this quality. He loves racing when it's cooler. That's when he will be at his best," Harrison said. "I'll give him a couple more races at Chester before the Ben Franklin," he added.

Monday, June 14, 2010 The Lyell Creek N Solution I think we can fix him but he is going to need cooler weather, so if he was my horse I'd put him away now, give him an easier time and aim for the Breeders Crown.
So says trainer Kelvin Harrison of the New Zealand superstar Auckland Reactor N according to the New Zealand Herald in response to a question regarding what is wrong with the Kiwi superstar. So heat is apparently the enemy of Auckland Reactor. According to Harrison, Auckland Reactor can't acclimate to the hot weather and when you race in North America this time of year, especially in the Northeast; this is a disaster for the team which purchased Auckland Reactor to be a dual hemisphere stallion. If you can't race the big boys during stakes season when the money is on the line, many breeders will not be looking at your stallion seriously.
Is this a case of a trainer looking to cover himself? I think not. Like people, some horses just don't respond well to the heat. Owners and trainers of these types of horses know summer is the time to put their horses in the field and bring them back in the fall for a late fall to early spring campaign, piling up the wins and raking in the money. Of course, these horses tend not to become in demand stallions; nor do their owners pay $3.5 million for their horse
This presents a dilemma for Auckland Reactor's connections. They have several options to consider; listen to the trainer and go for bust aiming for the Breeders Crown (and perhaps a time trial at Lexington to show his speed?); dismiss the trainer's advice and tell the trainer to keep going with him realizing every loss further cheapens the horses; fire the trainer and see if you have better luck with another trainer; head back home to New Zealand where the weather apparently doesn't get this hot and resurrect a successful racing and future breeding career down under.
Perhaps there is another option? I, for one, do believe this horse has the potential to ultimately live up to the hype. Maybe let his biological clock get back in sync and have a short fall campaign and then bring him back next year thus allowing him to go through the seasons in logical progression; permitting full acclimation This is what worked for Lyell Creek N, who won the Canadian Trotting Derby the year after he came to North America after suffering through a very non-descript first year in the Northern Hemisphere. Of course, this would add a year to the owners' plans and it too doesn't guarantee success.
It will be interesting to see what the Auckland Reactor team decides to do. While it would be unrealistic for financial concerns not to be a factor, hopefully %u201Cwhat is best for the horse%u201D are not hollow words.

Multiple New Zealand record holder Auckland Reactor will resume his harness racing career in a mile sprint at Ashburton on February 12, and according to co-trainer Mark Purdon 'Mac' is no different to when he left his Rolleston property in November 2009. "All indications so far are that he is exactly the same when he left home after the Free-For-All. He's still lovely to work with. It's like he never left," Purdon said. He said the now 6-year-old son of Mach Three had the same temperament, which in some ways surprised him. "I thought he might have changed a bit after serving a dummy mare a couple of times but he's exactly the same. He feels like he wants to race again but I suppose we won't really know until the pressure goes on," said Purdon, who co-trains Auckland Reactor with Grant Payne at Rolleston. Auckland Reactor underwent a successful operation in early November in Christchurch which involved cutting out a crescent shaped section, about 3cm by 1cm, from the edge of his soft palate to reduce obstruction to the his flow. After the operation veterinarian Bill Bishop believed there was no reason why the champion couldn't return to his brilliant best. "We do hundreds of these operations and have consistently good results where the animals return to the level they were racing at before," Bishop said. "I reckon we have a success rate of about 90%." He arrived at Purdon's stable at the beginning of November and began fast work towards the end of that month. "His blood was good and he seemed well within himself. Now a couple of months later he has improved even more and I couldn't be happier with him," Purdon said. The last time Auckland Reactor was in work at Rolleston Purdon did 90 per cent of his training but now it's more 50-50 with Grant Payne due to Purdon's commitments to his North island stable in Pukekohe. "Grant thinks the same so going by what we both feel it should be all systems go for the Auckland Cup and then the Interdominions," Purdon said. Auckland Reactor will have his first public outing at the Ashburton trials on January 26 and then the Motukarara Trials on February 2. His first race will then be 10 days later in a mobile mile (1609m) at Ashburton. All going well Purdon said he would drive both Auckland Reactor and Sleepy Tripp at the Christchurch Interdominions with Blair Orange sticking with Highview Tommy. Auckland Reactor raced three times in the United States in May and June last year and finished sixth, fourth, and seventh. He paced a 1:51.2 mile in his qualifier and then went 1:49 when finishing sixth at the Meadowlands on May 22. His career record is impressive to say the least. ‘Mac' raced 34 times for 25 wins and two seconds. His bank balance currently stands at $1,487,814.
He also holds six New Zealand records. These are:
1) All age 1950m mobile - 2:17.8. 2) All age 2000m mobile - 2:21.8. 3) 3yo 2600m mobile - 3:09.4. 4) 4yo mobile mile (1609m) - 1:53.5. 5) 4yo 1950 mobile - 2:17.8 6) 4yo 2000m mobile - 2:21.8
Since returning home Auckland Reactor Syndicate spokesman John Curtin has also restructured ‘Mac's ownership for his new campaign.
The 12 shareholders are:
1 - John Curtin (New Zealand) ; 2 - Fred Brayford (Canada) ; 3 - Doug Millard (Canada); 4 - Jerry Silva (United States); 5 - Stallion Station (Australia); 6 - Albert Pizzuto (Australia); 7 - Guy Vitale (Australia); 8 - Frank Gramoglia (Australia); 9 - Daniel Lettieri (Australia); 10 - Jack Klonaris (Australia); 11 - Anthony Klonaris (Australia) and Mark Scalia (Australia).

Harness racing colossus Auckland Reactor was the star trialist at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club's Trials held at Motukarara today (Wednesday February 2). The son of Mach Three stepped back into the public arena at the Ashburton Trials last Wednesday and didn't disappoint his entourage of followers, coming from last on the turn to win effortlessly with some exciting sectionals. Today it was co-trainer Grant Payne who enjoyed the thrill of driving Auckland Reactor in the absence of Mark Purdon who is in Australia putting the finishing touches on I Can Doosit, Sleepy Tripp and Major Mark. Payne is no stranger to driving quality racehorses and has sat behind "The Reactor" on numerous occasions. "I've driven him four or five times at the trials and today he felt as good as he ever has, in fact he feels bigger and stronger because the last time I drove him was as a three year old," Payne said. In a change of tactics Auckland Reactor was taken to the front today by his co-trainer. "Mark was keen for me to leave the gate with him today and he went out real good and settled nicely. It was a terrible windy day but he won easily and had a nice wee blow afterwards." Auckland Reactor coasted to the line three lengths clear of Lancome and Secret Potion who fought out the minors with Terror To Love. The overall time for the 2200m mobile was 2.47.9 with the final sectionals in 59.8 and 26.8. The final quarter particularly impressive given the windy weather conditions and the fact Grant Payne didn't activate the removable earplugs. The winner of 25 races is on target for a race-day resumption at Ashburton on Saturday week (February 12) and is unlikely to be sighted before then. "He's built like a real athlete so it just a matter of keeping him fit and healthy now. We don't do alot of speed work with him, he gets that at the trials and races.

VK - I find him an unusual horse to watch, in that he doesn't really look like he's working, but he can be flying - and on the flipside, you can't tell when he's feeling the pinch, and before you know it, there can be nothing left !?! Still - I agree with you that every 'star' the code can get is a bonus, and he still makes the headlines.

Master you are usually generous about other horses, The Reactor went huge today, back from his wind op should be a different horse, amazing how many have the operation and turn out champions. Just look at Sokyola and went extra well after the op. Sir Clive, another one, the galloper of Barts So You Think, nearly every good one by High Chapparel has had the operation and they turn out good. Great to see the horse back and now part owned by NSW people called Pizzuto. Is that the Kevin Pizzuto in NSW. If its those people he could end up training The Reactor and winning at Menangle with him. Would be great to see a horse like him in NSW and driven by Greg B.

Good win by the Reactor today - but two points to cool you down VK ... i) that Ashburton is either measured short or down hill all the way - times are about 2 seconds quicker than even Menangle ! ii) while he looked good in relation to The Monkey [ what's happened there ? ] - it was Raglan hard on his hammer :-)
Now on to the other news for an adopted QLDer like yourself ... Blackie FIBRILATES AGAIN ! A pretty bad sign in my book - every incidence does more scar tissue damage to the heart muscle. Most never reach their career best after they start that routine [ Selby Bromac & Melpark Major are the best I know of ] Wouldn't be surpised if that's it for the champ

Couldn't have more thingss fall into his lap in the run the Reactor and driven to perfection by Purdon, he ran up to win it and found wanting when it mattered despite the winner all but being put out of business halfway down the straight. Must be really disappointing for them not to tonight after having that sort of run in transit because he was obviously freakishly good as a young horse in NZ but for various reasons hasn't risen to that same level whenever he's ventured here.

fair go Lets, it's no wonder you have a day job, 1:59:9 mile rate for a 2 mile stand and only beaten by one horse who had the sweet trip......how much extra ground did the Reactor cover than the winner?????.....then goes down by a head....you wouldn't know THE TRUTH if you sat on it!!

VK it was supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and has never lived up to that over here, its bumped into the worst Hunter Cup field in years and had every posible break go its way in the run.
It then got out at the right time ran up to win the race and point blank turned it up, I still don't know how it managed to lose after all that and with choise achiever being all but put out of businness halfway down the straight.

fair go lets you are a completely deluded F-WIT, a fair dinkum GOOSE....."point blank turned it up" please see an optometrist......the trainer chuffed after his Hunter run, a big run according to Adam Hamilton and Harnesslink but hey they know nothing and you know everything!
yes he hasn't gone on with it after being the best 3yo ever produced in the souther hemisphere but still a topline horse and currently NZ's best pacer no other 3yo in this part of the world regularly rattled off 25 second quarters like the Reactor did....that is a fact
two Inter heats, yes any cat can do that! but I'm sure you would even bag him in victory
seriously give up, you have absolutely NFI, you will always be a MUG

craig you have to understand the horse, he doesn't look like he's going as fast as he is...please check the sectionals before you put your foot in your mouth like Lets does...."gifted the lead" then home in 30.7 28.8 28.0 27.5 around the GP goat track....this campaign in Australia wins the Pure Steel, 2nd a half head in the Hunter Cup, wins two Inter heats.....what does the horse have to do? race 4 wide the trip and win my 50m?
but I'm glad he has so many baggers because the better than evens early were very nice thanks!

yes gifted the lead and runs three fast quarters around a very good track where three sectionals under 30 is quite common
we shall see next start
but yes you have the runs on the board at the moment

The horse is going as well as ever, I think he still needs to lead or sit behind the leader to win final but if he is in either of those positions will run a huge race.

Going well and appears to be a far more settled and tractable conveyance, appears to be handling the track well and have been impressed by both his performances. His first night win in the end , even though he didn't explode as I and many others thought he should have, after watching the replays when I got home I thought it was a pretty soft win and despite getting a very easy lead last night he did the job impressively and speaking to A Butt afterwards he confirmed there was a bit of petrol left if required.

AMAZING SCENES.....could not believe my eyes, the Reactor matched to 3.0.....CROMBIE at 1.85 is that the biggest false favourite of all time?......Crombie isn't worthy of licking the Reactors boots yet he was odds on to beat him......WTF!!!!
is this horse hated that much?....are these the same clueless vision impaired fools who used to lay BLACKIE?
it's no wonder it's so easy to make money from Harness racing as there seems to be very few people with any idea at all.....I thank GOD he populated this planet with Let's Elope clones

Now connections are saying he loves the heat? After all the excuses in the US about the heat does it really surprise you vk that people don't like the horse

VK last seen desperately ransacking Dr Christian Barnard's clinic searching for an equine heart bigger than a split pea for Auckland Reactor.
In all seriousness though the Reactor suffered yet another meltdown when it really mattered despite going into the final in great shape after having several Inters heats presented to it on a platter and being driven to perfection in the big one.

Thats big coming from you VK, seems you can dish it up but don't like it when you're on the receiving end and proven to be incorrect.
If you don't like it, don't be a smart arse in the first place and I did very well out of the final and the series itself thank you very much.
I don't come on here to be insulted, I come here on to hopefully one day have an interesting logical argument/debate with like minded people if you don't want to be treated like a clown don't act like one in the first place VK and stop wasting my valuable time and yours.
