Don't know which airlines you looked at but why not choose one of the Asian ones (Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines) and have a couple of days stop over in one of theose cities (Hong Kong, Bankok, Singapore)?
They are all good airlines and you can usually find some sort of deal where if you stay overnight you receive some reduction in cost.
Although £900 does'nt sound too bad, you are travelling 34000km return after all.
