Some times he gets it right--and sometime he doesnt--Pretty much like most of us......... nothing special--but he does put alot of work in,and hes not a mug... I think it gets harder for him every year,as the number of internationals increase.. ... ;\

if you know so much, why not tell us before the race??

:|
Report PA for PM November 3, 2009 4:13 AM GMT
bobby, he didn't dismiss the horse completely (ronald dumbo forgot to mention that).

What he did say was he had to make a judgement call (we all do that every race), and he decided to go against it

His best roughie was Crime Scene..will buy him a beer if i see him...
Report ronaldingo November 3, 2009 4:14 AM GMT

Dom's tips the fav's in the melbourne cup every year
Report Wauchope November 3, 2009 11:41 AM GMT
agreed. hard to tip away from the favourite runners. He may have layed some big bets in the good old days but times have changed.
Report Thebas November 4, 2009 12:37 AM GMT
dom beirne is prob one of the best "rating's" analysts around (from the 80's to now)

and the melb cup, for any ratings afficionado, would be the worst race to assess - because of 3200m

as i recall, dom didn't pot shocking 'on ratings', i think he said it was well in the market on ratings, he potted it because he said/thought it had peaked the previous run

he also put up crime scene as the best of the internationals ... so pretty sure he won on the race (again)

he was one of the (if not THE) biggest bookies in sydney early mid 80's ... when he was only about 25 years of age

easy to pot a bloke on one race a year ... he's actually a legend
Report ronaldingo November 4, 2009 8:44 AM GMT
a legend who gave away bookmaking to buy a furniture business?

a legend who now does not bet, but sells his ratings, a legend who was the "value bet" man...

tell me what did happen to "value bet" , the tipping service that disappeared up it's ringer.....

tell me ......did shocking peak on saturday, or as Kav said did it improve 5 lengths after saturday !!

tell me..............

lmfao, muppets all of you!
Report angelo2 November 4, 2009 9:06 AM GMT
he was a legend no doubt about it. He gave it away because all the other bookies would just follow his prices and they would not bet him. In other words he was doing all the work and everyone else was getting a free ride.
Report Da_Judge November 4, 2009 10:30 AM GMT
no such thing as a bookie getting a free ride by following anothers market, they pay their tax to the bookie whose prices they're following, don't worry about that.

as for value bet, it made him a lot of money in a short space of time, but it was always doomed to have a short life, apparently skychannel had a share of the business as well, also since he gave up bookmaking, hes been betting successfully for a lot of years
Report Da_Judge November 4, 2009 10:35 AM GMT
i have no idea STS
Report Da_Judge November 4, 2009 11:16 AM GMT
he made a poultice early on, with skychannel advertising it extensively, he got a stack of calls for it, but it was always doomed to failure, as apparently the charges were billed to your phone, you can imagine how big some peoples bills got in 3 months can't you
Report Thebas November 4, 2009 11:30 PM GMT
lol dingo ... potting a blole on one race ... a 3200m once a year race ... now that is muppetsville :)

the truth is ... he made millions in the mid-late 80's .... the 87 crash saw huge cash punting almost cease 'on-track' (for a period) ... the waterhouses had been gone (for other reasons) since 84 ... then so did dom ... good on him, smart move

great era ... great legend was dom ... and .... there's a reason (always is) why ur bagging him ;)
Report The Eel November 5, 2009 1:30 AM GMT
ronald over a space of time your winning % would be clearly better than his no doubt
Report ronaldingo November 5, 2009 2:16 AM GMT
i win every year mate

not by using tipping services such as the defunct value bet, where suckers paid $50 / tip and ended up with donuts.

if the said analyst is as good as you say and there is no doubt he was successful why isnt he on course now, why does he bet less than ever and why does he "sell" information?

each to their own.

shocking peaked saturday. i loved it.
