These two could play a 100 times and you'll always get these slugfests between them because neither know how to finish points quickly, they need to adopt the Federer one strike tennis strategy and stop wasting so much energy.

Report caramba November 17, 2017 2:38 PM GMT
quite a turnaround in this set.
Report mesmerised November 17, 2017 2:49 PM GMT
Thiem is convincing himself he can't play his forehand shots and keeps motioning it to his box, Goffin sees that and then constantly attacks his forehand side even though it looks more psychological than Physical.
Report wisewords November 17, 2017 3:00 PM GMT
what a stinky mugfest.
Report mesmerised November 17, 2017 3:09 PM GMT
You can see why Goffin has a substantial h2h record v Thiem, Goffin is too intelligent for him, all Thiem knows is to hit the ball as hard as he can.

He needs to get rid of Günter Bresnik who is basically just an Austrian Roger Rasheed, i.e, a glorified fitness coach.

Report mesmerised November 18, 2017 2:43 PM GMT
Much easier to do with World Number 1 and 2 out of the picture for most of the year and when you avoid the whole of the clay season.
Report caramba November 18, 2017 2:50 PM GMT
you're a bigger Roger hater than edy. Of course avoiding the clay season helps with this, but smart scheduling plays a big part in how he's been able to maintain success over the years.

I'm not gonna get into this "Who's the best out of Rafa and Roger" debate again because it's been done to death and people aren't gonna change their mind, but at least be consistent and don't change criteria based on it if benefits your player (importance of h2h vs Slams etc).

Pretty sure, Nadal and fed will have lost more than half of their early year points before clay season starts.
Report caramba November 18, 2017 4:07 PM GMT
maybe the fact that he's evil is why players get rid of him despite being a very good coach.

This is a valid point, however it is watered down by the fact that Federer completely missed the clay court season, and when Federer himself was asked how he has managed to beat Nadal 4 times this year, in how own words he's said "not playing him on clay helps"

If they'd have met at madrid, Monte Carlo, Rome and FO, the chances are he would have lost all 4 but Federer didn't even try and he probably wont play clay next year either.

So for me Federer's record over Nadal this year has a big asterisk next to it.
