The tennis season is nearing the end, this week we have the ATP NextGen finals with all its wacky rules and then the Fed Cup final in Minsk this weekend.
These threads are weekly threads with just tennis talk: match talk, past, current or upcoming events in tennis etc. Spamming (including muggy politics talk) and general sports talk can be done elsewhere such as the usual megathreads, current one is called It's time for S/OT 6.

fees*
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:19 PM GMT
Oh no, but won't surprise me if over that sort of time it would cost he like $5m in lawyers fees.

Hence only winners at end of this will be lawyers, there aren't gonna be any other winners, even if the damage was limited and it was resolved this year. Both have done truck loads to lawyers, neither probably get what they want, both haven't been able to working during it (more important for her, as it this point he is surely being bankrolled by his parents). So no party involved is gonna end up in a better position are they at the end.

And despite the picture she paints otherwise on social media, she has to be pretty miserable a lot of the time. That Fed Cup might be the first time you saw into how she really is. The cheery mirage on social media certainly isn't very believable anymore.

*Fed Cup video
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:22 PM GMT
By believable anymore I meant not been believable for ages, not because of that vid. Its not been believable since pretty much the start, but defo by now given length of this. She acts like she's not got a worry in the world, well that can't be true can it.
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:25 PM GMT
To become a better player at some point Sabalenka will have to reign it in a bit to get some consistency in her shots. She takes wild to a whole new level at times.
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:26 PM GMT
And some of her shot selection is just plain crazy. Some of her misses are lol bad too, like you can see at times she's gonna miss by miles just from how she's lining up.
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:30 PM GMT
She's one of these players who hasn't worked out yet you don't have to hit every pull as hard as you can to win, and sometimes it's simply not smart to do so.
Report thepunter November 11, 2017 2:45 PM GMT
Was always clear, sabalenka couldnt paint the lines whole day long, soone ror later she had to miss a few and sloanes solid game should prevail.
Report wisewords November 11, 2017 2:46 PM GMT
party time is over for Sabalenka's Always GOATing?
Report thepunter November 11, 2017 2:48 PM GMT
Well, saba may go break up in decider, you never know what can happen after that, but sloane looks pretty solid on serve now, so I dont expect her to get broken more than once from here.
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:52 PM GMT
As soon as Sabalenka didn't break at start of this set from 15-40, things went downhill, Stephens had barely held all match then, been holding easily ever since.
Report n88uk November 11, 2017 2:52 PM GMT
And it's now Sabalenka struggling every service game, admittedly she's just got more and more wild.
Report thepunter November 11, 2017 2:54 PM GMT
Come on sloane, keep that motivation up, we want ot see a decider.

CoCo and Rogers vs Sasnovich/Sabalenka will be my guess.

In other words it's my usual complaint about Fed/Davis Cup that we get garbage doubles teams which means there's never any liquidity when the market eventually opens for the most important match of the tie.

Report n88uk November 12, 2017 3:59 PM GMT
A lot of people criticising Belarus' team decision. I think you had to go with that. Sabalenka does feel a muggy doubles player as you need subtlety in doubles and she has none, but she's the hot player, she's most likely to deliver under pressure. Throwing Lapko in just because she done well at ITF doubles into a Fed Cup final 5th rubber when she hasn't played all weekend is just a pure gamble.

Though this idea of neutral finals which I think is going to come as they are desperate for it for some reason despite it losing the vote at their AGM, is a step backwards, that will kill them rather than help. Can you imagine if this tie was in like neutral Switzerland or something, it would be absolute dead.
