(Halep)
0 Grand slams including two R1 exits
Lost 4 out of 5 finals
Won 1 tournament all year - beat 5 players ranked outside of top 15 in Madrid
Joint 10th on the list of number of tournaments won for 2017.
10th on the list for number of Grand slam matches won/lost, even an old GOAT like Kuznetsova has had a better year in the biggest 4 tournaments.
Won/lost half of her matches v top 10 players

This is not what a World number 1 should look like, only way to counter this is to give even more weight to Grand slam performances / winners, probably double the win to 4000 points to the winner in WTA or at least increase points per round, which would mean Muguruza and Ostapenko would be ahead at this point and would have ensured Pliskova didn't become #1 either. I like Halep, but there should new rules to ensure there are no slamless World Number 1 players because it just makes a mockery of the title. Nobody really looks at her so far in 2017 and says, yes, she has been the best player on tour this year, only the ranking system says that and that is clearly wrong. ATP equivalent this year would probably be Cilic (1 tournament win/1 slam final/won 50% v top 10), and he's not the #1 ranked player or even close.

Kind Regards.
