Konta is totally stuffed if Garcia wins this. She needs final in Moscow minimum to overtake Garcia if Garcia wins today (and if her opponent is Garcia she can't qualify even with a win). On form there's no chance she's doing that, even though it's only 3 matches as Moscow has byes.

Halep is 1/5 from Finals this year, lost 4 in row.

Poor from a World Number 1.

There needs to be some golden rules in place where players are not allowed to be World N°1 without having won a slam or without having won more finals than you've lost. Doesn't look good.

Silly question. Show me the more accomplished 20 year olds. Ostapenko rising the bar for the standards young players are judged against.

So yes in short.

Ostapenko should be top 5 next year while still being 20 too. She defends virtually nothing between now and Charleston and there's 5 big tournaments in that time (Singapore, AO, Doha, IW, Miami) + whatever other events she decides to play. Think she defends 345 points over this entire period.

How can Ostapenko be described as an accomplished player?

She;s only won 2 torunaments and one of those was an international against a fairly weak field, the FO, she needed 3 sets to win 5 matches and Halep choked when 3-0 up.

Her first serve % this year is the lowest is the second lowest the top 50 and second serve points won is the 6th lowest in the top 50.

She's a talented player but no where near a finished product.

That's the point. Ostapenko is rising the bar that 20 year olds are judged on, because these days you get 20 year olds bigged up for much less. You're young winning a grand slam at 23 etc.

tried it failed, there was another paragraph.

Basically said I don't see Penko as setting a high bar for her age group, aside from that 1 tournament at the French, she's won 1 other tournament and that was an International tier event, setting a high bar is based on consistency rather than a 2 week event in which she only beat 1 top 10 player (at the time) who clearly bottled it when 3 love up.

If she starts to win tournaments on a regular basis or getting deep at slams regularly, that is a high bar to aim for, because the FO was such a big acheivement, it doesn't make it the bar for every 20 year old to suddenly start aiming for because winning slams at the minute is not even Penko's general level as we saw when she was beating in straights at the next two slams and how she was easily unraveled against Halep trying to win her first Prem Madatory.

Report n88uk October 8, 2017 2:17 PM BST
Ostapenko even if you took off her French Open points would be #14. Which means even outside that even she's ahead of her peers. The only other 20 year old or younger in the top 30 is Kasatkina who is around 25. There's a chance there won't be another 20 year old in the top 40 by the end of the year.

So her consistency is better than her age group too. If you look at her results since the start of clay season she has had minimal flops. The 2 losses in US hard court season in build up to USO, the rest of her losses were all to good players.
Report mesmerised October 8, 2017 2:18 PM BST
I know she is better than her age group.....Cry
Report n88uk October 8, 2017 2:20 PM BST
But the standards you are judging her are Serena like standards?

Talking about her getting beaten in straights the next 2 slams, one of these was the QF. Losing SF's of PM's vs Halep. Every single player on tour is doing this lol, no-one is consistent by your definition of consistency. Nobody is racking up loads of big titles are they.
Report mesmerised October 8, 2017 2:26 PM BST
What I'm saying is, her achievements for her age group is not particularly a high bar if you take out the FO open which as big an achievement as it was, was 1 tournament, a high bar is really is consistency in performing well at big tournaments, she's won 1 international, and is top 10 in era that pretty weak, if that's the bar for her age group, it's a high one.
Report mesmerised October 8, 2017 2:26 PM BST
not a high one .
Report mesmerised October 8, 2017 2:27 PM BST
I mean, how would Penko have faired a few years ago with her first and second serve? it's laughable she's where she is with some of her serving  stats when you think about it.
Report mesmerised October 8, 2017 2:29 PM BST
As said earlier, she is clearly RAW talent, that needs fine tuning.
