1. Salute plucky Laura Rosbon. Lasted a whole hour against her young opponent, saving a magnificent 4 match points before capitulating.

2. Courageous Cameron Norrie unluckily dumped out of Wimbledon in straight sets, the match helpfully finishing in time to see most of the BBC News at One.

Look forward to seeing him next year, maybe again as a Wild Card entrant.

Please feel free to add other acts of heroism as they arise.

Seems a little unfair that a player can avoid ending up on this thread by getting banned for being a cokehead two weeks before the nation's flagship event.

3. Plucky Naomi Broady beaten in straight sets by a woman whose name would make a good hand of Scrabble letters.

Remember the day, 4th July 2017. Not so much 'Independence Day', now surely forever to be celebrated henceforth as Pluckiness Day.

A triple-header of epic proportions :

4. Brave Karie Boulter manages to lose from a set up against McHale

5. Davis Cup Giant James Ward battered in straight sets by make-up-the-numbers, perennially injury-plagued tennis pensioner Baghdatis.

6. Special mention in despatches to Brydan Klein. His Aussie birthplace means he can't really be considered for inclusion here, but he looked every inch the native son today, courageously getting hammered in straight sets. Fought on bravely despite the trainer being called on to assist, gong down narrowly 0-6 in the third.

Some good news, as we are guaranteed one plucky survivor going on to Rpund 2 with two Brits facing each other in Round 1.  If only Boggy was in the main draw to flatten the opposition.

Sadly Kyle Edmund can never have the vital ingredient of British pluck, given his South African birth, but my God he demonstrated pluck in abundance today. His True Yorkshire Granite shone through as he suffered a straight sets mullering by Monfils, despite having commanding positions in Sets 1 and 3.

Well played young man. I salute your indefatigability (unless the weather's hot) Sir.

brit doubles players in pluck overdrive today.

watson and broady a break up late in the third, only to not win another game.

clarke and (watchootalkinabout)willis with three match points, two sets to one up, spunk them all away, broken to love next game.
