and Petra is looking super finished. the market was hilarious.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 4:50 PM BST
it's the classic thing, you can't let the market guide you in these tinpot events, you've got to guide yourself. but during the Grand Slams you can allow the market to guide you for the most part. this is where people come unstuck betting on Asia after the US Open.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:51 PM BST
Tennis fans are always pretty resistant to these sort of ideas. It's how it takes off in wider sporting world I guess. Reality is Davis/Fed Cup really aren't that strong with tennis fans either, there's many fans who don't really care about them either (myself included in that).

But in one of the articles I read it claimed ATP are planning a team competition of their own, if that's true then it's just a mess really if you end up with all parties want their slice of pie and to run it.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:51 PM BST
Petra is defending champion.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:52 PM BST
The market just often thinks it's still US Open in Asia Wisewords.

As I said before the week, Keys was (joint) 2nd fav outright ffs, this was a complete joke. It's not US anymore.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 4:53 PM BST
The market is silly. It aggressively tries tro convince you it knows, when it has no idea.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:53 PM BST
Stephens flop pretty predictable.

Konta just been awful recently anyway.

Who else? Stosur, shocking loss on paper, but again been poor since coming back from injury.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 4:54 PM BST
Stosur's stamina tank isn't big enough since her injury return.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 4:54 PM BST
She'll be back firing on all cylinders in January.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:55 PM BST
You've got a big battle for #1 going on at the top that should be driving the players. A few players desperate for Singapore, though they're all out bar Ostapenko and Kuznetsova, as top 6 qualified after last week.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 4:55 PM BST
poor Petra. grinded down by Peng battler.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:55 PM BST
And pressure hardly on Ostapenko given performance of others. So only really pressure on Kuznetsova to do something big this week as she needs it.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:56 PM BST
Ostapenko I think can easily wrap up qualification with a run this week though given what the others did. Something like SF probably does it for sure, but QF I'm pretty sure does it in most realistic scenarios.

Yer that's next big question. That's why they need to turn it into an event rather than an event piggy backing off of Federer and Nadal. They haven't got that long to achieve that, only like 2-3 years you'd think.

Nadal realises the potential for it to become massive; like you've pointed out 'The Ryder Cup of Tennis'. With that comes huge sponsorship revenues.

Report n88uk September 25, 2017 4:58 PM BST
Kvitova losing is good for Osty too, that's the seed in her section before QF's. Though still her draw isn't great, Muguruza at top of the quarter, there's easier sections in the draw. Woz has an amazing draw iirc, as she's in the section with Keys and co.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:03 PM BST
Keys was crying today, n88uk. Her head seemed all over the place. Her wrist problems back.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:05 PM BST
Today certainly gives Belarus more chance in Fed Cup if Vika somehow is back for it.

Impossible to take advantage of such thing though as the value is insanely with USA as is stands.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:12 PM BST
Lol at that muggy play by Peng.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:16 PM BST
Peng will break for the match now.. maybe?
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:18 PM BST
Yer think so.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:18 PM BST
Petra look a long break to get a temporary reprieve, but probably only temporary.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:19 PM BST
gotta credit Petra for not giving up. there has been zero give up in her today
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:19 PM BST
all Peng needs to do is make each rally over say 16 shots
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:19 PM BST
Crazy
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:19 PM BST
Peng does some muggy stuff at times. It looks like as long as she hangs in rallies she wins, but at times she tries stupid stuff that gives Petra a chance in the point.
Report n88uk September 25, 2017 5:21 PM BST
Like Peng's drop shots are woeful. They have so much height on them, you can see them coming too because of her style.
Report wisewords September 25, 2017 5:21 PM BST
