They should take into account the quality/ranking position of the opponent you have beaten

For example, if you make the third Round of a slam = 90 points.

Istomin beat World Number 2 Djokovic - 90 points
Tomic beat World Number 103 Estrella - 90 points

Doesn't seem fair to me that two players who won a R2 match are awarded exactly the same points even though the two beaten players are 101 places apart in the rankings, with Istomin's place in the 3rd round far harder to acheive than what Tomic's was.

Along with the standard 90 points for making R3 in a slam, and to reflect/incorporate the true value of a win into a new fairer/accurate ranking system, it could work as follows using the above example...

If you beat World Ranked...

#1 - 100 pts
#2 - 99 pts + 90 standard points = 189 points for beating Djokovic in 2nd Round
#3 - 98 pts
#4 - 97pts
#5 - 96 pts
#6 - 95 pts
#7 - 94 pts
#8 - 93 pts
#9 - 92 pts
#10 - 91 pts
#20 - 81 pts
#30 - 71 pts
#40 - 61 pts
#50 - 51 pts
#60 - 41 pts
#70 - 31 pts
#80 - 21 pts
#90 - 11 pts
#100+ - 1 pt
#101 - 1 pt
#102 - 1pt
#103 - 1pt + 90 standard points = 91 points for beaing Estrella

So in this system Istomin would receive 98 more points for reaching R3 than Tomic based on the level of opposent he had to come through to get there. In another example, Dimitrov made R4 by beating World Number 18, Gasquet and so would get 180 standard points +  83 points (#18)  = 263 points for this R4 win, Nishikori beat World Number 121, Lacko and gets 1 extra points, 180 + 1 (#121) = 121 which is 142 more points for Dimitrov for making the same round for beating a far more superior opponent than what Nishikori did.

It would also give more motivation for players to win instead of turning up for a R1 match just to collect prize money etc.

Kind Regards.

How many extra points on top of standard 180 points would the current last 16 players have earned thus far based on this fairer system...

Evans - 36 pts + 94 pts + 74 pts = 204 pts
Wawrinka - 67 pts + 71 pts + 66 pts = 204 pts
Nadal - 52 pts + 66 pts + 77 pts = 195 pts
Raonic - 35 pts + 73 pts + 76 pts = 184 pts
Isotmin - 1 pt + 99 pts + 70  = 170 pts
Zverev: - 27 pts + 82 pts + 45 pts = 154 pts
Monfils - 48 pts + 32 pts + 68 pts = 148 pts
Seppi - 26 pts + 88 pts + 30 pts = 144 pts
Thiem - 43 pts + 54 pts + 25 pts =122 pts
Tsonga - 18 pts + 7 pts + 81 pts = 106 pts
Bautista - 20 pts + 2 pts + 78 pts = 100 pts
Federer - 1 pt + 1pt + 91 = 93 pts
Nishikori - 56 pts + 29 pts + 1pt = 86 pts
Dimitrov - 1 pt + 1 pt + 83 pts = 85 pts
Goffin - 1 pt + 1 pts + 80 pts  =  82 pts
Murray: - 6 pts + `1 pt + 69 pts = 76 pts

Dan Evans/wawa have had the toughest draw/route, Murray has had the easiest.

we had this kind of bonus points till the 80ies, I agree it would have been better to maintain it, though what really should be gratified is beating players ahead of you in ranking.

WTA definitely used to do this.

You will end up with some flaws though. Because problem is all victories over the #1 aren't the same. Think how stupid it is when the #1 retires in a loss and the opponent gets a load of gift points for example.

I imagine the main reason it isn't used anymore though is they want a system fans can somewhat follow. This isn't that.
