This Week we have.....

St Jude it as you see it boyos...All tips/best guess/deductive reasoning/stabs welcome...back PHIL @14's or hold your fire until any more WD's are confirmed this week...Steele, Toms & Donald WD's already !!!

Lyoness Open.....a piss poor field as always includes Wiesberger, Wood, Dunne, Ramsey and my man LUITEN 7's. Get on now or wait for the fast starters? - recent winners were all T2 or better after 18/36 holes.

KPMG of the five majors on the LPGA Tour...In 2015, Inbee Park wrapped up her third-consecutive KPMG Women’s PGA Championship...Expect KO 7/1 to break that trend.

Constellation Seniors.....the second MAJOR of their season...Langer 5/1 wins but Mikey-A Jimenez 6/1 is fresh and won't be far away.

IRELAND's Paul Dunne will take a two stroke lead into the final day. The 24 year old started the day two shots behind halfway leader Grégory Havret.
Italy's Renato Paratore is two shots back in second after posting a course-record 66 earlier on Saturday. Englishman Paul Waring, Spain's Pablo Larrazábal and Dane Lasse Jensen were then in a tie for third on five under.

Dunne said: "I've been playing well recently and I haven't played a tournament for four weeks with the break we had so I felt like it took me a while to get going with my swing this week. "But today was a much easier round than the last couple of days. I didn’t putt as well as I did in the last couple of days but I hit the ball a lot better. "I'm really pleased, I’ve been doing some good work and I'm happy with where I am. "If I break 70 again I think it’s going to be hard for someone to catch me so I'm just going to try and do that."

Re: Automatic Picks
We're on week 16 now, which means that as of next week (week 17) everyone will be back to 3 lives.

There are 5 competitors who have entered less than half of the first 16 weeks, and who have not been active for at least the last 3 weeks. They are:
charlie muddle
Mikael D'Haguenet

It will seem a bit funny if they are just scoring from automatic picks on week 17, 18 and 19.
So, I'm amending the rules to cover this situation, and unless the above competitors enter this week (week 16), they will be removed from the leader board and will NOT be eligible for automatic picks until they become active again in the competition. On the other hand, if they do enter again, they will keep all points they have earned so far.

FOUND this interesting topic - Talk about pre-cut versus post-cut performance. Let's take a look at this week's field to see who thrives before the cut, and who finishes strong.

Pre-Cut Stars
For this experiment, I'm going to look at performance before the cut since the start of last season and compare it to performance after the cut. I will point out a few examples that look notable to me. The idea is that some golfers are prone to fast starts, but start to fade as the week goes on. That could be due to added pressure or it could be due to typical weekend course setups with pin placements, firmer greens, and what not.

Scott Piercy: Ranks 7th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 79th in POST-CUT performance.
Martin Laird: Ranks 5th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but way down at 48th in POST-CUT performance.
Seamus Power: Ranks 20th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 117th in POST-CUT performance.
Anirban Lahiri: Ranks 22nd in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 91st in POST-CUT performance.

Seamus Power doesn't have many starts on his PGA TOUR resume but he's positioned himself inside the top 25 six times after R1 this season. More recently, Harold Varner III has been T13 or better after R1 in each of his last four starts. Another fast starter is Luke List who has been T21 or better after two rounds 12 times already this season.

Post-Cut Stars
On the flip side, here are some golfers that really shine on the weekend but don't always fire out of the gates.

Branden Grace: Ranks 1st in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 71st in PRE-CUT performance.
Jimmy Walker: Ranks 3rd in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 52nd in PRE-CUT performance.
Graeme McDowell: Ranks 4th in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 96th in PRE-CUT performance.
John Peterson: Ranks 11th in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 114th in PRE-CUT performance.

AT&T Byron Nelson 2017

Its back to Texas for the FOURTH time this year as Masters Champion Sergio Garcia defends his title with four of the world's Top 6 (8 of the T20) in the 156 player field. The field often lacks depth as this tournament often takes a back seat to other prominent events between the Masters and US OPEN. Remember US OPEN places are still up for grabs...The Top 60 in the OWGR next Monday receive automatic berths.

The first half of a Texas ‘Two Step’ honouring two GREATS of the Game - this week it’s Byron Nelson, from the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving followed next week by Ben Hogan at Colonial C.C. It’s also the 35th and final time as host for TPC Four Seasons as the event moves just south of downtown Dallas next year, to the Coore/Crenshaw links-style layout at Trinity Forest GC - a former landfill site where they turned trash into treasure - Spieth is a member. Jordan’s best finish at this track is T-16 in 2010 when he was in high school and he plays it every year.

The second-last of five stops this season in the Lone Star State (of mind). We return to the Dallas area for an event established in 1944, the Nelson is currently the ninth-oldest edition played annually on TOUR. Named after the great Byron Nelson, who won the inaugural event by 10 shots, it was the first tournament on TOUR named after a player. Nelson would sit in the shade and greet the players as they walked off No. 18 before his death in 2006.

TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas has been the host course since the mid-80s and was one of two courses used until 2008. After the Weibring/Wolfard redesign in 2007-08 it has featured as the only course in play so that’s where any horses for courses come in.  The redesign added water to get the players attention with tough driving holes that include elaborate bunkering and plenty of trees. Water is abundant so players will have to hold their nerve coming down the stretch and keep the golf ball in play on this shot makers course.

TPC Four Seasons features Bermuda on fairways and rough, but the large, undulating greens are bent grass. It has consistently ranked inside the top-20 toughest golf courses on the PGA TOUR. With only two par fives again this week (par 70 - 7,166yds - 35/35) players will need to find a way to score on the par fours, requiring a bit of nerve off the tee as these fairways are challenging to hit and avoid big numbers. Todd was successful in 2014 as he only made three bogeys and a double for the week while Bowditch soaked up 27 birdies in 2015 in the rain. In his winning effort last year, Garcia took 45 holes to card his first bogey and only squared six for the week. It also didn’t hurt that he made every putt he looked at and only found two bunkers on the week as he finished T-4 GIR. Avoiding bunkers and bogeys sounds a right plan!

First-timers excel here with four of the last seven winning on TOUR for the first time. Garcia, Bowditch & Dufner the exceptions. Day, Bradley and Bae had never played in the event so course history here is not a dominating factor.
2016: Sergio Garcia; 265 playoff. Sergio chased down 54-hole record-setter Brooks Koepka and beat him on the first playoff hole for his second playoff win in this event (2004).
2015: Steven Bowditch (62,68,65,64) 259 Tournament Record - by 4 shots from C.Hoffman, Pinckney & Walker. *Rain-altered layout with two rounds of par 69.
2014: Brendon Todd; 266
2013: Sangmoon Bae; 267 (Keegan Bradley opened with 60).
2012: Jason Dufner; 269
2011: Keegan Bradley fought the wind and Ryan Palmer to win a playoff as they fired 277, the highest total since the redesign.
2010: Jason Day; 270
2009: Rory Sabbatini destroyed the redesign with 261
2008: Adam Scott; 273 playoff

Hey Duuuuuuuude, I'm going to Texas where its sizzling hot until Thursday in Irving, TX with a 70/30 chance of 'severe' thunderstorms the first three days before northerly winds cool the place down to the 80’s on Sunday. Wind from four different directions, on the four days, with those northerly winds the exact opposite of the southerly winds that will open the tournament. Look-out for someone who can pierce the wind with their ball flight.

•    Played since 1944 this is the ninth-longest running event on Tour and first named after a former player (1968).
•    Tournament record event: 261; Sabbatini, 2009.
•    Course record: 60; Bradley, 2013.
•    Defending champion(s): none since the redesign.
•    Multiple champions: none since TPC Four seasons became the exclusive course.
•    Multiple champion, event: last Sergio Garcia (2004, 2016).
•    Maiden Tour victory: Day, Bradley, Bae and Todd.
•    First time at event: Day, Bradley and Bae.
•    Adam ‘Texas Slam’ Scott is the only player to win all four regular Texas Tour stops in his career.

Of the last 22 champs, 16 have placed all four rounds in the 60’s while of the last nine winners, only three have been from the States. What is it about Aussie’s in Texas anyway? Will it be 55/1 shot Marc Leishman’s turn at 8am on Thursday. Course form reads mc,mc,3,12,3,mc,12 & 8th in 2009.

Dufner, Poulter & Koepka get off early followed by the featured group of Spieth, Sneds and Kuchar at 7.50am on Thursday morning (with red hot Bud Cauley out first at 7am). Dustbin 9/2 fav, Gribble and Oosthuizen only get going at 12.40pm followed immediately by Garcia, Reed and Justin Day.

THE CONTENDERS y’all COLONIAL CC this week for the DEAN & DELUCA Invitational 2017

Say howdy to Jason Dufner 25/1 who has made 6 of 8 cuts at Colonial, including two runner-up finishes and a T6 last year. Jason was on the cusp of contending over yonder last week before falling just outside of the T10. He fits the mould of a great ball-striker on a course that demands just that.
Bud Cauley 33/1 has been hot of late, with back-to-back Top 5's & 10s in his last four starts. Bud’s made two of his three cuts in this tournament, with both going for top 25s. Ain’t my first rodeo on this horse.
Chris Kirk 55/1 a course horse starting to come back to form, T12 at Sawgrass, is impossible to ignore this week, having made 7/7 cuts including a win, a T5 and five T16 finishes at Colonial over the years.
Brandt Snedeker 50/1 – Made all six cuts here, with half going for T20’s including a T5 in 2015. Had T30s in his five starts prior to a missed cut last week.
Marc Leishman 45/1 has never missed a cut in six trips, with a T13 last year marking one of two T25s. His form is in good shape, with a win already on the resume in 2017 and coming off a T13 last week at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

ALL IRISH EYES will be on our lad Paul Dunne who qualified for his fourth Major start - albeit on the first extra hole of a seven-man playoff - at Walton Heath. The US Open will be his first Major in the USofA while he’s twice missed the cut in our OPEN Championship, the one time he played the weekend he famously led on Sunday at The Old Course in St. Andrews. He recently came mighty close to his first European Tour title down Morocco way followed by a T30 in Wentworth.

OUR other rep is Shane Lowry who was a surprise 54-hole leader last year at Oakmont. While Lowry knows he fcuked up that four-shot lead (and finished T2) - the WGC-Bridgestone champion has a brilliant short game and still believes he has all the skills to win a Major. Shane finished T6 at Wentworth and T15 at Jack's Memorial so 'stick to the ground hurling' Shane !!!

Last year, the PGA Tour instituted a rule which states that players who don't play a minimum of 25 tournaments each season must compete in at least one event that they haven't played during the previous four seasons.

So for the first time, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth will compete at TPC River Highlands in the TRAVELERS Championship, while Jason Day returns for the first time in three years, giving the tournament three players ranked in the top half-dozen in the world. "What put me over the edge was other players' recommendations," explained Spieth. "I was kind of in between what I'm going to do scheduling-wise after the US Open...And it was universal. It was all positive comments from every player I asked."

In typical Travelers fashion a big charge on Sunday is possible - Kevin Streelman practically stole the 2014 Championship - he was four back after 54 (and five back after 63 and tied for 20th) as he played flawless golf on the back nine Sunday shooting a seven-under par 28 for a final round 64. Twenty four players were within (or at) 6 of lead starting that Sunday as Kevin finished his round with seven consecutive birdies to win the tournament, breaking a PGA TOUR record that dates back to 1956. Brad Faxon trailed by seven shots before winning in 2005 (shooting 61 on Sunday), Bubba trailed by six-strokes in 2010 before winning on the 2nd play-off par-3 16th hole, and the fifth 'International' winner Marc Leishman was down by six in 2012 - there the  biggest comebacks - so watch-out on Sunday morning for anyone inside the T10 (or 'bout 6 shots back).

Good leaderboard for prices providing Rahm doesnt go crazy 2 mor as those  up there will choke at some stage. Rose and Harrington mediocre off the tee so far but their putting has saved them. If Rahm has an average day 2 mor either of the above at the current prices could look good. I'll chance them.

The 45/1 New Zealander's made two previous trips to the Alps and finished second (2016) and third (2015) in the Challenge Tour’s Rolex Trophy. Everything went like clockwork in July as he reeled off a trio of T6's in the French, Irish and Scottish Opens so let's hope he masters this Alpine venue with the same precise timing.

A BIG congratulations to Ireland’s PAUL DUNNE on winning the British Masters. He joins names like Norman, Seve, Faldo, Christy Jnr, Woosie, Monty, Rose & Westwood on the role of honour.

Paul shot a fantastic closing 61 to hold off a late charge from Rory McIlroy and win his first professional win in his 51st European Tour event. Dunne had a stellar amateur career, playing in the Walker Cup and leading the 2015 Open Championship after 54 holes and lost out in a play-off to Edoardo Molinari at the Trophée Hassan II in April.

Paul should move inside the top 90 in the Official World Golf Ranking from 192nd and becomes the 15th Irishman to win on the European Tour and the 51st Irish victory overall.

A closing 61 equals the lowest finishing round by a winner this season of Hideki Matsuyama in the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational. His closing 61 was also two shots better than his previous low round. The last player to shoot a final round of 61 or better to win their first event was Rafa Cabrera Bello at the 2009 Austrian Open while 260 is the lowest winning total of the season by four shots and the lowest since Sergio Garcia shot 257 in winning the 2011 Castello Masters. West Waterford Golf Club in Dungarvan will be rooting for Olympian Golfer SEAMUS POWER again tonight in Mississippi.

Seamus is tied for 3rd going into the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship and SIX behind runaway leader Ryan Armour (who leads by five from Chesson Hadley). Better known as a very strong starter - Ranks 20th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 117th in POST-CUT performance last season - let’s hope he can finish with a solid round - it’s a great opportunity for his 1st PGA win. A trip to the Masters two year Tour exemption, etc awaits!

We saw what happened in Shanghai overnight as World #1 Dustbin Johnson - (trying to become the 1st player in a calendar year to win three WGC titles) – he threw away a SIX shot lead in the final round of the WGC Champions event by shooting a 77. Justbin Rose was EIGHT shots behind at the start (and SIX down with 8 to go), posting a 67 for a stunning victory ! (Dustin equals the largest blown lead in a final round of the PGA by Norman ‘96 Masters & Sergio ‘05 Quail Hollow)

AFTER the completion of the Tour Championship Finals, we have the second set of graduates. This list comes from the top 25 money earners during the Tour Finals (excluding The 25 above from the regular season list).

Ranked #7 Ireland's Seamus Power Strokes Gained Rank: 5th Age: 30
Posted an impressive 19-for-25 record during his rookie season. It was a lack of top-heavy finishes that held him back though, finishing 130th in the final FedExCup standings. Could that have been a warmup season as he gets comfortable on PGA TOUR course setups? Or will he always be categorized as a cut-maker? I guess that is what we'll find out this season, as he finished 25th in the Tour Finals standings, cutting it very close.

Tour Diary - RSM Classic - Preview - Padraig Harrington Thursday, 16 November 2017.

After a long trip I finally made it to Sea Island for this week’s RSM Classic. I flew from Johannesburg to Atlanta, which was 16 hours in the air. It wasn’t too bad as I was tired getting on the plane and slept for 12 hours and then watched a couple of movies. However the highlight was after my two hours in the Immigration queue - there was a Fiveguys in Atlanta airport and there is no better breakfast! In the end I got o the course and was able to do a bit of chipping and putting on Monday. It’s hard to believe I had been in South Africa on Sunday and then hitting putts here on Monday afternoon.

I played here back in 2014 when it was just one course. Now they play it over two courses, the Seaside and Plantation courses. It makes it a bit tougher to have to get out and play the new course and practice on the one I have played before, but luckily I’m in the pro-am on the Plantation course which is the one I haven’t played.  With this in mind I played the Seaside course with Seamus Power early on Tuesday morning so that we could watch the football in the afternoon. The wind blew pretty strong which made it play a lot harder than I remembered it. It felt like a links wind out there at times. The condition of the course was brilliant and it could well be the best conditioned course of the year.

It was good to play with Seamus as I haven’t seen him for a while and we had good craic. I was happy with how I hit the ball which made it a lot easier to finish up early and go to watch the Ireland v Denmark football match. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we were looking for and like every Irish person, I was gutted. I feel for the players as it is so tough to get that close and then to miss out at the end.

On Wednesday I played the morning pro-am on the Plantation course. It is quite different to the Seaside course but is still a good test. The greens are small and surrounded by rough. If you miss the greens it is tough to get the ball close to the hole. That said if you hit the greens then you have a decent chance for birdie. The fairways are generous enough but if you miss them then you are struggling as this rough gives you big flyers.

After the pro-am I did some practice, mainly hitting wedges and then some chipping and putting. I’m happy with what I see in my game and in some ways sorry that this is the last proper event of my season. I’m out at 11am in the first round on the Plantation Course and the 9.50am on Friday on the Seaside Course. I’m excited about getting started and it would be nice to finish the season on a high note.
Talk soon, Padraig.
