This Week we have.....

St Jude it as you see it boyos...All tips/best guess/deductive reasoning/stabs welcome...back PHIL @14's or hold your fire until any more WD's are confirmed this week...Steele, Toms & Donald WD's already !!!

Lyoness Open.....a piss poor field as always includes Wiesberger, Wood, Dunne, Ramsey and my man LUITEN 7's. Get on now or wait for the fast starters? - recent winners were all T2 or better after 18/36 holes.

KPMG of the five majors on the LPGA Tour...In 2015, Inbee Park wrapped up her third-consecutive KPMG Women’s PGA Championship...Expect KO 7/1 to break that trend.

Constellation Seniors.....the second MAJOR of their season...Langer 5/1 wins but Mikey-A Jimenez 6/1 is fresh and won't be far away.

West Waterford Golf Club in Dungarvan will be rooting for Olympian Golfer SEAMUS POWER again tonight in Mississippi.

Seamus is tied for 3rd going into the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship and SIX behind runaway leader Ryan Armour (who leads by five from Chesson Hadley). Better known as a very strong starter - Ranks 20th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 117th in POST-CUT performance last season - let’s hope he can finish with a solid round - it’s a great opportunity for his 1st PGA win. A trip to the Masters two year Tour exemption, etc awaits!

We saw what happened in Shanghai overnight as World #1 Dustbin Johnson - (trying to become the 1st player in a calendar year to win three WGC titles) – he threw away a SIX shot lead in the final round of the WGC Champions event by shooting a 77. Justbin Rose was EIGHT shots behind at the start (and SIX down with 8 to go), posting a 67 for a stunning victory ! (Dustin equals the largest blown lead in a final round of the PGA by Norman ‘96 Masters & Sergio ‘05 Quail Hollow)

AFTER the completion of the Tour Championship Finals, we have the second set of graduates. This list comes from the top 25 money earners during the Tour Finals (excluding The 25 above from the regular season list).

Ranked #7 Ireland's Seamus Power Strokes Gained Rank: 5th Age: 30
Posted an impressive 19-for-25 record during his rookie season. It was a lack of top-heavy finishes that held him back though, finishing 130th in the final FedExCup standings. Could that have been a warmup season as he gets comfortable on PGA TOUR course setups? Or will he always be categorized as a cut-maker? I guess that is what we'll find out this season, as he finished 25th in the Tour Finals standings, cutting it very close.

Tour Diary - RSM Classic - Preview - Padraig Harrington Thursday, 16 November 2017.

After a long trip I finally made it to Sea Island for this week’s RSM Classic. I flew from Johannesburg to Atlanta, which was 16 hours in the air. It wasn’t too bad as I was tired getting on the plane and slept for 12 hours and then watched a couple of movies. However the highlight was after my two hours in the Immigration queue - there was a Fiveguys in Atlanta airport and there is no better breakfast! In the end I got o the course and was able to do a bit of chipping and putting on Monday. It’s hard to believe I had been in South Africa on Sunday and then hitting putts here on Monday afternoon.

I played here back in 2014 when it was just one course. Now they play it over two courses, the Seaside and Plantation courses. It makes it a bit tougher to have to get out and play the new course and practice on the one I have played before, but luckily I’m in the pro-am on the Plantation course which is the one I haven’t played.  With this in mind I played the Seaside course with Seamus Power early on Tuesday morning so that we could watch the football in the afternoon. The wind blew pretty strong which made it play a lot harder than I remembered it. It felt like a links wind out there at times. The condition of the course was brilliant and it could well be the best conditioned course of the year.

It was good to play with Seamus as I haven’t seen him for a while and we had good craic. I was happy with how I hit the ball which made it a lot easier to finish up early and go to watch the Ireland v Denmark football match. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we were looking for and like every Irish person, I was gutted. I feel for the players as it is so tough to get that close and then to miss out at the end.

On Wednesday I played the morning pro-am on the Plantation course. It is quite different to the Seaside course but is still a good test. The greens are small and surrounded by rough. If you miss the greens it is tough to get the ball close to the hole. That said if you hit the greens then you have a decent chance for birdie. The fairways are generous enough but if you miss them then you are struggling as this rough gives you big flyers.

After the pro-am I did some practice, mainly hitting wedges and then some chipping and putting. I’m happy with what I see in my game and in some ways sorry that this is the last proper event of my season. I’m out at 11am in the first round on the Plantation Course and the 9.50am on Friday on the Seaside Course. I’m excited about getting started and it would be nice to finish the season on a high note.
Talk soon, Padraig.

Terrific leaderboard at Augusta, all the class players inolved with just a few exceptions, impossible to call the winner.

I think the top Asian market is interesting as just 5 left in it, Matsuyama (lev,2/5),LI (+1,7/2),Kodaira(+1,7/1),Kim(+4,14/1) and Aphibarnrat(+5,22/1).

I don't fancy Kodaira or Kim,maybe Li is after his tournament with a great 1st round, Aphibarnrat had a dismal 1st round with +8 but made the cut with a -3 yesterday.
With inclement weather forecast and Aphibarnrat out nearly a full 3 hours before Matsuyama,he seems a very sporting 22/1 shot in this very small field to me.

The tournament enters a new era next year when Paul McGinley leads a rotation of Irish golfing legends - Major champions Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell – in the hosting role, taking over the mantle from Rory McIlroy. The four-time Major champion’s charity, the Rory Foundation, has successfully hosted the tournament since 2015.

The winning 2014 Ryder Cup Captain will host at a venue for which he holds a great affinity, having triumphed at Lahinch as an amateur when he claimed the South of Ireland Championship in 1991. Darren won it in 1989 and Gmac triumphed in 2000. Padraig was beaten in the finals of both the South of Ireland (and Irish Close Championships) by David Higgins in 1994 (18th hole and 20th hole) and by Jody Fanagan in 1995 (18th hole) but he did win the Irish Close in Lahinch two weeks later.

Paul will be aided in his preparations for the 2019 event by his close friend and one of his Vice-Captains during The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Des Smyth, who was recently announced as Tournament Ambassador, a role which will see him help in the marketing and promotion of the event for the next four years as well as aid a successful transition between each of the hosts.

Jarrod was a hero in Australia, a beacon of hope for those battling the big C, an inspiration to anyone who spent even a few minutes around him. Does he involve Harry in reading the greens ?  ( Harry is a better putter than Rory , according to those who should know ) .  Maybe Rory needs to adjust his procedure when faced with putts up to 20 feet , he is OK with the longer ones where pace is more important than line .

Kelly, it must be a Sunday thing with Rory as his putting was fine the 1st three days.   He holed a lot of longish putts and
never missed a short one.   I doubt if Mr Diamond is helping his concentration, in  fact I'd say he's less than helpful to Rory's
cause.   He could do worse than hiring Billy Foster, at least for the bigger tournaments.   It looks like Westwood and Billy are finished as a unit.
It's sad to see Rory folding so easily when things ain't going his way.   Jack or Gary or Arnie would never throw in the towel an
fold like our boy from Hollywood.    I sincerely hope he can turn these bad Sundays around and show us once more what a smashing
golfer he really is.

WELL DONE TO ORISHMAN SHANE LOWRY thrashed a bogey-free 10-under-par 31-31=62 on the opening morning of the ABU DHABI HSBC CHANPIONSHIP in the United Arab Emirates, matching his career-low round, to take a three-shot clubhouse lead over Louis Oosthuizen, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Richard Sterne and Pablo Larrazabal.

Lowry's lap equalled the course record previously set by Henrik Stenson in 2006. Lowry finished fourth on his debut at this event in 2010 but MC's in 2012, 2013 and 2014 before dropping it from his schedule. He's finished 2nd (2017) and 5th (2014) at the DP World Tour Championship so has desert form, and his only other career R1 leads came in that same 2014 DP event and also the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Lets hope Shane has a good 2019 . He was poor for most of 2018 given his ability , but improved a bit towards the end of 2018 .  He is a "course" winner at Portrush and would get a lot of support if he makes it there .

Re Rory full back , Sundays seem to have become a problem , one other year it was Fridays. One wonders though how it works out with advice from the sidelines . Rory has had the same coach for most of his golfing life to date , Michael played his amateur golf at our club as did Harry until recently when he moved across town . My son met them during practice at last years Masters .

The player/ caddie relationship is often crucial, not sure it always is good to have your best mate on the bag , and it was a stop gap arrangement we were told post JP's departure .

Things have changed a lot in the golfing world over the years , a friend was Nick's caddie for a good while and they stayed in the same B & B for years near Portmarnock during the Carrolls . Wouldn't see many of the worlds top 10 in a B & B nowadays  I suspect.

Lowry has held a 54-hole lead just three times, converting the first when memorably winning the Irish Open as an amateur in 2009 but finishing runner-up at the 2016 U.S. Open and T8 in the 2017 Turkish Airlines Open. The OWGR #75 slept-on-the-lead of three shots from Richard Sterne and five from third-placed Ian Poulter.

His remarkable performance on the par 3s made all the difference this week where he was 10-under on Nos. 7, 12 and 15 – all birdies the first three days - while he was level par for the other par 3, 4th hole (one bogey, one birdie today). 6 -under for the four par 5’s also helped and only eight bogeys all week (ok, 4 were today).

A STERN charge on the front nine would have rattled most -  with 6 birdies, and suddenly Shane was behind by three – only a sweet birdie on 18 the sealed the deal for Lowry...just...phew!...was sh*ting myself & himself too !. "GOLF IS HARD". Devil

Exciting stuff today .  Thought Shane was gone after the first nine , but he got stuck in and got a great win .  Hope he can continue on for the rest of the year , and he is a course winner at Portrush where he beat a friend of ours to win the North . A Major would be nice !

Different ball game nowadays .

In 1951 a lot of the pros would have been "put up" by local members . This year accommodation for the week will cost a fortune , saw a 2 bedroom apartment in the middle of Portrush being advertised at 4K for the week . Some of this years qualifiers have already booked accommodation in Scotland and will fly in by helicopter apparently .

The Open prize money then was paltry . Winner got £300 . In comparison the winner of the Irish Open in 1953 played at Belvoir Park near Belfast --Eric Brown , future Ryder Cup captain -- received £750 .

Main complaint so far about the 2019 Open is that they are not inclined to grant re entry if you leave the site after clocking in . Its a long day to be spending on one site particularly if the weather cuts up rough like it did in 2012  at the Irish Open. The local merchants and traders are only going to get limited access to the passing trade and they are not a bit pleased .

Losing the 17th ( in particular) and the 18th to the tented village will change the dynamic of the course a bit , but the 2 replacement holes seem to be fairly well received by all  accounts so far . Means Rory's 61 ( at age 16 ) probably will not be recognised as the official course record .

Shot it in qualifying for North of Ireland ( which strangely he never won ). On display in clubhouse .  Unbelievable score , don't think he could do that now . Even if the greens are better now than then .

Haven't been around for yonks, hope everyone is well. Final round of Farmers is intriguing, Rose is playing like world number 1 but this course is a graveyard for 54 hole leaders probably just Scott or Rahm capable of catching him and I think at around 6's Rahm might just do that.

Impressive win down the stretch , especially the last 3 holes where he hit everything on line where it mattered .

He has been the most consistent of the top world 10 this year , 6th his worst finishing position.  Reckon he is listening to Brad Faxon .

On to the Masters , if he wins that he has a "super" grand slam with the 4 Majors and the TPC under his belt .
