Theres one at Fairyhouse today. In the UK the highest NH handicaps are Grade 3 so how does it work in Ireland and what is the equivalent of a Irish Grade A NH handicap in the UK ? Not getting a lot of Google joy with this query ...

Well, there's rule 3.3.1 of Schedule 13 in the BHA rules...

3.3 For the purpose of determining any penalty to be carried, a horse which in Ireland has won:
3.3.1 A Grade A Handicap Steeple Chase or Hurdle Race shall be regarded as having won a Grade 3 Pattern race
3.3.2 A Grade B or C Handicap Steeple Chase or Hurdle Race shall be regarded as having won a Listed race.

Kevin Blake has written a couple of lengthy pieces on the subject of NH horses - the population - particularly at the top end, and the races available to them - the graded races - non-hcaps and hcaps, in UK and Ireland - and how the picture has changed over the last 10 years or so. They are not a quick read, as he has dug up plenty of data and used it in his analyses.
